My jaws starts automatically all right, after two minutes. That's two
minutes af the windows music mind you. Using w9indows 7. In all fairness,
perhaps there's some other factors, I just don't know what they might be.

For some reason this morning; Jaws 15 will not start either using the
short
cut key or going to the desk top and pressing J twice and then enter. Jaws
14 and 15 are both on the desk top. I installed 15 from the CD about a
week
ago and have been able to start it from either the short cut key or desk
top. Any help would be appreciated. Tom

JAWS repeats "Heading Level 1" at every line break of PDF file

Kamensky, Ann Marie <AnnMarie.Kamensky@...>

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create tagged document in Framemaker v8.

2. Save as PDF.

3. Open PDF with Acrobat vXI.

4. Run Accessibility Checker and resolve any issues.

5. Save PDF.

6. Open PDF in Adobe Reader vXI.

7. Open JAWS 11 or 15.

8. When JAWS reads, it repeats the header formatting out loud at the beginning of every line. For example, "Heading Level 1 Introduction Heading Level 1 This guide introduces users to ABC software so that Heading Level 1 you can perform DEF types of tasks." (etc.)

I have tried using different options when I save the PDF. I have also tried setting the JAWS Say All > Punctuation to None.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: How much is it to upgrade from jaws 9 to jaws 15

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

Back when my cabinet negotiated that first purchase, we were told that we should purchase JAWS for DOS as part of the package, as the programs were designed to work together seamlessly. Okay, we did that. This was back in the days of Windows 3.11 for Work groups, and your machine booted into DOS as it always had. I think I set Windows to load as the last line of my autoexec file. Well, guess what, when Windows came up it wouldn't talk. JAWS loaded, but it wouldn't talk. After some thought, I uninstalled JFD, and reinstalled my good old ASAP, and the transition worked like a charm. Far as I know, CHR never received any refund on that part of the purchase. We also had to buy a DecTalk board and software, further elevating the price. I think in 1996 JFW went for around $895.

Just checked, and the US prices are $1095 for Professional, and $895 for Standard.

Adding Remote/CITRIX is another US $200.

SMA US pricing is $200 for Professional and $120 for Standard.

I suspect whatever is the full price for JAWS in your area. Without intervening software maintenance agreements (which would be no less than 2 of them in this case) you usually pay full price to restart. So it would have been less expensive to continue the SMA during the intervening space between version 9 and version 15.

The US price for JAWS is around $1000, so it seems to be equivalent to allowing 4 or 5 SMAs to go by without renewal.

Well Cy, I think you're about to break even now if you go ahead and buy JAWS 15.

Hi All,

Since the scripts took off December of 2010, they are moving to a new
platform and UUI. Rhapsody hasn't cooperated with anything I've said, so I
am just down to hoping I can rescript the application. The initial
inspection didn't look good at all, but with some tinkering, I've gotten a
lot to work. I still have a long way to go, but I will get something to work
as best as I can. The interface actually seems better from a navigation
stand point, but for accessibility it doesn't want to play fair. I am glad
they redid the application, but I have to find out from someone who got the
beta email. Either way, I'll be busy scripting this new interface. I'll
create a beta list for this one as I feel that more people will be using it.

Cheers,

John Martyn

Gary,

I went through the process the other day and experienced exactly what you describe. Unfortunately, I didn't have the wherewithal to block the two unwanted applications, so they installed to my system. However, I decided to keep Chrome (which is getting increasingly favorable accessibility mentions) for future experimentation, while removing the google toolbar, or any application, is extremely simple and quick in Win7.

Has anyone updated Flash Player lately? I got an update notice tonight and was glad to see that the Install button identified itself, which was not the case in the past. I thought I was on the way to an easy installation using JAWS 14.0.6005 and Internet Explorer 10. Wrong! When I got to the Adobe web page that displays the installation of optional software, Chrome and the Google Toolbar, JAWS did not detect the checkbox that controls this option.

I noted that the download was around 57 MB and recalled that the checkbox is checked by default, a bad policy in my opinion. I placed the Virtual Cursor on the line that begins with Yes, and where I recall the checkbox was located. I pressed Spacebar and checked the size of the download. It had dropped to around 16 MB, indicating that I had toggled the checkbox that JAWS couldn't find. I then activated the Installation, which proceeded normally.

I don't know if this is a JAWS problem or an Adobe problem. Both FS and Adobe are known to break things from time to time.
I would be interested to know if anyone has experienced this disappearing checkbox. It's unfortunate that Adobe forced Ninite to take away the Flash Player installation. It made updating too easy for us! I guess I will try Firefox and see what happens with the Flash Player update.

Yes. Same experience here. I found the checkbox to uncheck it by route JAWS to PC Cursor and then arrow keys or insert+4 / insert+6 with JAWS and did a JAWS left mouse click on the text Yes to uncheck the checkbox to not install the freeware junk leaveing like 16 MB install for the Adobe Flash. One can do a manual update by going to control panel and then choose Flash Player.

Re: Updating Flash Player

Dave...

Gary,

I was suspicious, and in spite of what the screen implied, I compared the
Megabyte count near the bottom of the screen with selecting the various
choices. It seems that it defaults to the larges size, which I inferred to
mean all the add-ons. As I clicked on each of the items, the size went down
to around 16 Mb, and then I accepted the package. I received no Chrome, no
toolbox, nothing but the flash.

This was not intuitive, as I say -- I was suspicious and tested the concept.

Disappearing Checkboxes & Baffling Buttons, Using JFW11 with Windows 7

SingingHearts <singinghearts@...>

Hi All,

It seems like I'm encountering "disappearing" or "invisible"
checkboxes and buttons more and more these days as I purchase things
online and fill out other online forms. When I use the spacebar to
check a box that I'm guessing must be there, it works sometimes but
not always, and I never get any feedback from the screen reader of the
status of the box. Even when a checkout or submit button is detected
by JAWS, pressing enter on it doesn't always activate it, and it seems
like more and more often such buttons are just plain
"invisible/nonexistent" as far as JAWS is concerned, even with the
JAWS cursor. Too often, I'm just stuck until a sighted friend or
family member can look over my shoulder and confirm whether my attempt
to check a box actually worked and use the touch pad to check the
box(es) when it didn't and/or press/click on the button(s) for me. I
have just recently discovered that using shift plus enter on some of
those stubborn buttons that are visible works. Anyone else
experiencing this? Am I just too far behind the times with my version
of JAWS, or is this happening with later versions, as well? Does it
have anything to do with the version of Internet Explorer I'm using
(IE9)?

Cordially,
Tina C.
