Subject: New windows 8 laptop and Jaws

Hello all,
My wife and I just bought a Windows 8 HP laptop, and I was wondering how
accessible Jaws 11 was with Windows 8? I've kinda been away from the Windows
and Jaws for awhile, only using them here lately on occasion.
A friend and I were thinking about upgrading to Jaws 14 or 15, I think I
heard it was coming out soon?
Any assistance on all of this would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks, Shane. Sent from my iPhone

I heard there is a fix when you use an VDA what you do is load up the
YouTube window click on the expand section and on mute or should I say on
the section where it says a new you hit enter and hit the up arrow button
until the volume js good enough. Will get exact directions later.

Hi Jim,

Here are steps for getting your sound back posted by a fellow list member:

From: Gerald Levy
Okay, people, if you are using JAWS, here's how to unmute the Youtube
audio and increase the volume to a comfortable listening level:

1. Load the Youtube page containing the video you want to listen to.
2. Turn off the virtual cursor by pressing JAWS key-Z.
3. Starting from the top of the page, tab repeatedly until you reach
the unmute button. This will require a lot of tabbing until you
finally land on it.

4. Once you are on the unmute button, press the space bar and the then
press the up arrow key repeatedly to increase the audio volume to the
desired level.
Finally, press JAWS key-Z again to turn the virtual cursor back on.

I tried these steps myself, and they worked for me.

Gerald

Take care.

Hi there,

Does anyone know what's going on with Youtube? It seems that every
video is now muted automatically, and when I get to the "unmute"
button, nothing happens.

I'm using JAWS and Internet Explorer.

What do I need to do to get Youtube working?

Unfortunately sometimes Jaws is not that sensitive when it comes to spacing
in manuscripts. I haven't spell checked a complete novel on my new computer
yet, but I hope jaws 14 can pick up the spacing problems that XP did.
Formatting can be a problem with documents such as articles or term papers,
but being clued into your screen reader and hearing prolonged pauses and
shorter lines is helpful.

Re: Looking for an accessible Anti- Virus Program

Hi,

You can also try the following site:

www.komando.com

Here you will find a lot of software for anti-virus.

AVG and Avast have been covered, but I don’t' recall anyone mentioning

I don't mean to jump in on your question, but Vipre products can be
found at
www.threattrack.com, and they will have the latest version available
for download. They have several products, and I use Vipre Internet
Security, because it offers mor protection than the Vipre Anti
Virus. But, the
2013 version is the latest, and when installed, it will
automatically
update
everything to today's latest threat definitions, etc. This is the
best protection I have ever owned for my computers, and is well
worth the

I have not had a virus in years. So, there you go. Mike

I've just had my first encounter with CAPTCHA in a long time. Switching to
Firefox, recently updated to version 24, I discovered Webvisum was no longer
listed as an add-on/extension. I've succeeded in getting it returned there,
and it shows as "enabled." However, it has given no signs of life on the two
websites for which I needed it this afternoon.

During the course of installing, which involved restarting FF, I noticed a
sign-in page. It's been so long since I used Webvisum that my original
registration was probably under my old email address. I don't know if that's
a problem. As I said, Webvisum does now show up in my FF add-ons list as
enabled.

Any thoughts?

Hi Jim,

Here are steps for getting your sound back posted by a fellow list member:

From: Gerald Levy
Okay, people, if you are using JAWS, here's how to unmute the Youtube audio
and increase the volume to a comfortable listening level:

1. Load the Youtube page containing the video you want to listen to.
2. Turn off the virtual cursor by pressing JAWS key-Z.
3. Starting from the top of the page, tab repeatedly until you reach the
unmute button. This will require a lot of tabbing until you finally land on
it.

4. Once you are on the unmute button, press the space bar and the then press
the up arrow key repeatedly to increase the audio volume to the desired
level.
Finally, press JAWS key-Z again to turn the virtual cursor back on.

I tried these steps myself, and they worked for me.

Gerald

Does anyone know what's going on with Youtube? It seems that every video is

happens.

I'm using JAWS and Internet Explorer.

What do I need to do to get Youtube working?
