Subject: Firefox Alerts?

Long-time JAWS user, new to this list.

Just got JAWS 15 with Windows 7 on a brand new PC, and I'm finding that
for some things, like Facebook, Firefox functions better than Internet
Explorer 10 for me. One hitch: Firefox prompts you with notifications
or alerts or whatever the proper term is. For instance, "Do you want
FireFox to remember this password?" Unlike Internet Explorer, where
Control N will give you the notification bar and allow you to respond,
I'm finding that Firefox reads some of your options to you, and then the
alert seems to disappear. In the above example, I think it says Alt R is
remember, but it doesn't ever finish reading the rest of my choices, and
when I try to tab through them, they're gone. I had thought my problem
was due to my old computer, my old version of JAWS, or my old version of
Firefox; but now I've got new everything with the same old problem.
I've googled, I've checked the FS website, and for the life of me I
can't figure out the proper way to handle these types of alerts. Sorry
if I'm overlooking something obvious, but surely someone else has had
this problem before me.

Thanks in advance,
Brad Martin

If you will select open instead of save at the download prompt, it is real
easy. Then, all you really have to do is click on yes at the UAC dialogue.
It should install itself after that.

How easy is it to install the 64 bit version of access bridge?
I have a 64 bit machine.

Hi Mike,

No, I haven't. I went to the Oracle site but, couldn't figure out which 1
to download. I didn't spend much time there but, it just sounded like there
were many options as which to download. I'm having some forearm & elbow
problems that keyboarding aggravates so, I limit my computer time. Thank
you for the reply.
Take care.

No, it will not hurt anything. In fact, it will probably give more
functionality in some of your apps. I keep this enabled on my PC as well.

Hi
While in the Ease of Access Center I did find the combo box to change the
notifications to 30 seconds instead of the default 7 seconds. While I was
there I stumbled upon this unchecked checkbox for Enable Java access

I have seen some chat sites requiring this java access bridge. Will it

In windows 8 it's windows key u, then the rest is still the same.

So, adding that in combined with the below, it will look like this:
Press windows key u, tab over to the Use the Computer without a Display
link
and press Enter. Next, tab to the How long should Windows Notification

Thirty
seconds or 1 minute should be adequate. I wouldn't want those balloons
hanging around too long; they might block access to other items on the

JAWS 15 is available now if you wish to download it from FS. One of the
most interesting things it adds is the touch cursor. This is handy but
takes some getting used to... to activate press the jaws key with num pad
plus. To get out of it just change to any other cursor.

Just got JAWS 15 with Windows 7 on a brand new PC, and I'm finding that for
some things, like Facebook, Firefox functions better than Internet Explorer
10 for me. One hitch: Firefox prompts you with notifications or alerts or
whatever the proper term is. For instance, "Do you want FireFox to remember
this password?" Unlike Internet Explorer, where Control N will give you the
notification bar and allow you to respond, I'm finding that Firefox reads
some of your options to you, and then the alert seems to disappear. In the
above example, I think it says Alt R is remember, but it doesn't ever finish
reading the rest of my choices, and when I try to tab through them, they're
gone. I had thought my problem was due to my old computer, my old version
of JAWS, or my old version of Firefox; but now I've got new everything with
the same old problem.
I've googled, I've checked the FS website, and for the life of me I can't
figure out the proper way to handle these types of alerts. Sorry if I'm
overlooking something obvious, but surely someone else has had this problem
before me.

Thanks in advance,

Possibly, however, FS did tell me that it would have to be uninstalled for the upgrade to happen, even with the support of the Microsoft Accissibility group. Once the Store was accessed, my computer became completely unresponsive to both myself and the support group. But once uninstalled, the Accessibility group had it downloaded and installed in just over an hour.

I am using JAWS 14 with Windows 8.1, and so far have had no trouble, except
with the Windows Store. I have been having this trouble even with Windows 8,
and it is not just with the Store app. I can try to get to the store via
Internet Explorer. Either way, I cannot access the store. It seems to lock
up my computer right after the store opens. I had to get the Microsoft
Accessibility group to help me upgrade to Windows 8.1, and it took
uninstalling JAWS to do the upgrade, then reinstalling it. I got the
suggestion for doing this straight from Freedom Scientific. But, now that it
is installed, it seems to work fine. That's my experience with it.

anyone here using windows 8.1 with jaws 14?
it's better to upgrade to jaws 15 on windows 8.1 or i can just stay to
jaws 14 if i can't hav jaws 15 on windows 8.1?
will it works with the store and other windows 8.1 modern apps?
besides, do you experienced mirror driver error?
i use portable version of jaws and got that error.
please share your thoughts!

thanks!

Jaws and Blue Tooth

Kevin Hourigan <kevinthourigan@...>

Hello People,
I have acquired new hearing aids with blue tooth capability, but when they are set to search for my laptop, my computer is not finding the Compilot for the hearing aids. I have Jaws 14, Windows 7 64 bit, and have checked that it is blue tooth enabled. The ear doctor was able to connect the hearing aid’s compilot to his cell phone successfully, and felt the issue is with my computer. The doctor and I have gone through the list of things to try provided by Windows Help with negative results. Could it be Jaws that is the problem? If anyone has any similar experience I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Thank you for all of your help, both with this, and all of the advice received through the List.
Sincerely Yours,
Kevin Hourigan.

Hi I am using 8.1 and Jaws 14 latest and the biggest problem I have is
always having to refolkus the desk top I changed it to up load desk top
everytime my computer turns on.

I close my computer down each evening. If there is a way that I can get jaws
to say I'm on the desk top when I come to it please answer this. I just alt
tab and come around to it. I haven't used the store yet but I am enjoying
windows 8.1 better then 8 if you have 8 upgrade to 8.1 and you will find
things better. I am still am waiting for jaws 15 to come and I hope it
will help with the little problems with the folkus of the desk top. From

I used Win 8 with JAWS 14 for a while and found it usable but not much
more than that. I then upgraded to Wiin 8.1 and JAWS 15, which is
marginally better. I also use Custom Shell, which was the mjost helpful of
all. The whole lash up is still far from user friendly.

since JFW doesn't use mirror drivers for windows 8, can JAWS remain
installed and not used during the upgrade to 8.1?

Firefox Alerts?

Brad Martin

Long-time JAWS user, new to this list.

Just got JAWS 15 with Windows 7 on a brand new PC, and I'm finding that for some things, like Facebook, Firefox functions better than Internet Explorer 10 for me. One hitch: Firefox prompts you with notifications or alerts or whatever the proper term is. For instance, "Do you want FireFox to remember this password?" Unlike Internet Explorer, where Control N will give you the notification bar and allow you to respond, I'm finding that Firefox reads some of your options to you, and then the alert seems to disappear. In the above example, I think it says Alt R is remember, but it doesn't ever finish reading the rest of my choices, and when I try to tab through them, they're gone. I had thought my problem was due to my old computer, my old version of JAWS, or my old version of Firefox; but now I've got new everything with the same old problem. I've googled, I've checked the FS website, and for the life of me I can't figure out the proper way to handle these types of alerts. Sorry if I'm overlooking something obvious, but surely someone else has had this problem before me.

Thanks in advance,
Brad Martin

FS has tutorials you can purchase for Powerpoint 2010. ATI has tutorials for

If you're looking for free tutorials, I'm not sure what's out there.

Hi.

Does anyone have a link to an easy-to-understand tutorial for Powerpoint
2010?

I have some older tutorials here, but since I now have Powerpoint 2010 both
at home and at work, I'm not sure whether they would be useful.
