Re: Jaws and office 2013

Hi Tom,

I was told by an FS employee from Germany that Office 2013 works best with JAWS 15.0, cause there are certain things that won't read well and work together in conjunction with Braille displays.
For the time being, it would be better to stick with Office 2010 for best performance.
The support for Office is constantly being updated though.

Regards,
Nermin

Mike:

This is encouraging.

My one question, though, is whether you had to do something to disable
"document object mode".

I have heard that if "document object mode" is enabled, a number of Jaws
functions won't work properly with Office 2013.

Thanks!

Hi Tom,

I am running JAWS 14 and Office 2013, and like it very well. I also ren the
two with Windows 7 for quite some time, and it worked well. I had the Office
365 for a short while, just the trial period, and the desktop applications

The only thing I do not like about Office 2013 is that there are no drop
down menus, and the ribbons are harder to navigate to find the particular
item you are looking for.

Yesterday, I was just informed at work that everyone with Windows 7 PC's
and
laptops is going to be made to switch from Office 2010 to Office 2013
within
the next few weeks.

Needless to say, this did not make my day!

They say that the switch is necessary because we will be moving from Lotus
Notes, to the Microsoft 365 e-mail and calendaring system during the
Spring
2014 University semester.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how Well Jaws 14 works with Office 2013,
and with MS365?

I was planning to stay with Jaws 14 for a while. My SMA has expired, and
I
really had no plans to ask the University to renew it for Jaws 15, since
they are sticking with Windows 7.

Thank you!

Tom, If the books are comprised of a bunch of files in a folder, they most
likely cannot be converted to a format playable on a CD player. It is,
however, possible, that the folder might contain a bunch of mp3 files along
with some other files. You might try copying these mp3 files into a new
folder and playing them individually to see if they play in the correct
order for the book, If they don't, you can rename them to list themselves in
the right order by placing 01, 02, 03, and so on, in the file name to order
them correctly. Then, you could use any CD burning software to burn them
onto a CD.

Mike

Well, I am now looking at some web sites that have been suggested to me for
blackboard Jaws accessibility information, and hope to get some helpful
information that way.

I don't know what Java Access Bridge is, but I'll check with our

This is obviously going to be a long-term project, but it is one that I feel
I must try, since more and more faculty are going to this type of course
delivery system, at least to some degree.

Re: what are the best english, french and spanish vocalizer voices

Soronel Haetir

Honestly I can't stand any of the Vocalizer (English) voices, I still
use the RealSpeak Direct Emily. Vocalizer Expressive Ada is close and
is probably what I would use if Emily were to suddenly become unusable
for some reason.

As for being the most accurate that's an incredibly hard thing to
judge simply because English pronunciation varies so much across the
world. I will say that Emily has quite a few pronunciation
differences from how I speak but that doesn't indicate that Emily is
necessarily wrong, simply because Emily is a UK English voice, where I
speak in a typical western US English accent.

Office 365 accessibility with Jaws

Cristóbal

Hello list,

So I’m checking out the Office 365 for professionals and small businesses.
Everything that it offers appears to be what I’m looking for, but as always,
accessibility is the key.

While I’ve found pages having to do with accessibility and this product:
http://onlinehelp.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-smallbusinesses/ff637544.asp
x for example, I’d like to know if folks are actually using Office 365 and
what their experiences are with Jaws in a real world setting. Be it the
email exchange service, desktop apps, SkyDrive, file sharing, instant
messaging and so on. I see that iOS apps are even available. And while that
would be a welcomed plus if in fact accessible as well, I’m immediately
interested in Jaws usability on a pc. This would be for my business, but I
will be dealing with sighted people who would need to access these features
as well.

Any observations, feedback or even suggested alternatives would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

I was planning to stay with Jaws 14 for a while. My SMA has expired, and I
really had no plans to ask the University to renew it for Jaws 15, since
they are sticking with Windows 7.

Thank you!

Re: Jaws and Blackboard Learn

Tom,

I would suggest you go to google and in the edit field type: black board
learn and JAWS

Here you will find the answers to your questions perhaps on the first page.

Charles

Subject: Jaws and Blackboard Learn

Hi, again, everyone.

As I think many of you know, I am a professor of Sociology at Ferris State
University in Michigan.

One of the projects I have started working on involves putting materials for
my Introductory Sociology course sections into something called Blackboard
Learn.

Blackboard Learn is an on line course delivery and management system that is
increasingly being used by colleges and Universities throughout the country.

Has anyone on the list had experience with this system? If so, what
strategies have you used for getting Jaws to work well with the system?

Do you have any tips for optimizing Jaws with Blackboard?

Is there a list of hot key commands out there somewhere?

I am using Windows 7 and Jaws 14 here.

If you would prefer to respond off list, my private e-mail address is:

tombehler@gmail.com

Thanks again!

Jaws and office 2013

Tom Behler

Hello, all.

Yesterday, I was just informed at work that everyone with Windows 7 PC's and
laptops is going to be made to switch from Office 2010 to Office 2013 within
the next few weeks.

Needless to say, this did not make my day!

They say that the switch is necessary because we will be moving from Lotus
Notes, to the Microsoft 365 e-mail and calendaring system during the Spring
2014 University semester.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how Well Jaws 14 works with Office 2013,
and with MS365?

I was planning to stay with Jaws 14 for a while. My SMA has expired, and I
really had no plans to ask the University to renew it for Jaws 15, since
they are sticking with Windows 7.

Thank you!
