Hi,

Just one more, I apologize if another has suggested this. Hitting the b key, do you finally come to the print button? If not, an obvious issue with the website not setting it as a button. If it does come up, hitting enter, any results?

Best of luck,

Rick

Well I tried the ideas from the list. If I just opened the print dialogue and pressed enter without any tabbing, the document did print. If I tried alt-p, nothing happened. If I routed the JAWS cursor to the print button and pressed the mouse key, it did print. It is still a bit strange to me, but your ideas have provided some work arounds. Smile.

Did you try using the JAWS cursor? I don’t know why the print button wasn’t accessible tabbing around, but since it’s a standard print dialogue, this cursor should still help you move the mouse pointer to the correct position and click on it.

Hello Everyone,

This has now happened twice to me, so I am wondering if there is a solution. Today I wanted to print a recent Amazon purchase invoice. I logged in, got to the invoice, and found the print button. I then pressed enter on print and the usual print dialogue came up. My Canon 210 series printer was listed as the default printer. When I used the tab key to try to find the print button, I could not find it. I did find the cancel button. It does not help to just press enter without tabbing to the print button. I contacted AIRA and the agent was able to activate the print button for me. I had a nearly identical situation occur last month with making a copy of a cancelled check at my online banking page. The fact that this has occurred twice at two different web sites makes me wonder if I have some setting wrong or why JAWS is not letting me get to the button. Any ideas on what is going on and how to resolve this?

I am using Windows 10, Google Chrome, and JAWS 2021.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Barbara,

I can’t always read the “Print” button, but I just use CONTROL + P. Then I use space for it to actually print.

You will probably have tried this but have you tried just using jaws virtual find to find the print text and then pressing space on the text?

A lot of times nowadays I find sites where pressing enter does not do the job and you have to press space – especially on what I suspect are clickable elements. Often these elements are not reported as either links or buttons but pressing space on them works anyway, especially with download elements.

Also there have been a number of issues for me in activating elements with jaws using Chrome, most especially with financial transactions pages. I am no longer able to make payments either through PayPal or my Bank using Chrome and Jaws. Elements either do not show up or become unresponsive when activated.

The good news for me personally is that when I load these problematic pages into FireFox these problems completely disappear.

Chrome is still my default but whenever I now come across a page which misbehaves I now just close Chrome and reload the offending page in FireFox.

Also sad to report but on occasion you will find better compliance with Narrator than Jaws on some pages. I was having to use Narrator with my bank site before I discovered using Firefox as the workaround for Jaws.

To be honest nowadays I can no longer rely just on Jaws – I also use not just Narrator and NVDA as well as different browser solutions.

Good afternoon listers. First, using latest version of jaws and windows respectively. Anytime I try to use jaws to read any mail in the windows mail program, windows live, the program closes. Having to use jaws counterpart; NVDA to write this message. Program works fine with counterpart. Does anyone else have this problem? I mentioned this to freedom scientific yesterday. If anyone else has this problem, you might want to pass it along to FS. Have happy holidays, new year and stay safe.

Sandra,

My suggestion would be using the JAWS links list feature, and activating it from there. I really don't understand why you're having the problem you're having, but trying another method to gain focus on the link would be my first choice.

David,

That's how it should work, though it's been ages since I last activated a Mute this Topic link in an e-mail message. If you are not logged in on the Groups.io website, you will be prompted to enter your login ID (the e-mail address with which you've subscribed) and password, as topic muting is something managed under your account level settings, but everything is already "filled in" as far as the actual information to mute a specific topic. If you have never established a password for your Groups.io account, then see: Establishing a Groups.io Website Account Password If You’ve Been an E-Mail Only User (docx)

What Sandra describes sounds like focus has somehow jumped back to the Reply to Sender link rather than remaining on the Mute this topic link.

But there are definitely a lot of things that PowerShell is much better for, but they're also not things that most typical users will ever need to do.

I set Office updates to automatic a long time ago. I was going to suggest making that change so that it happens during the restart process. However, that option isn't showing up anymore in my file menus.
Here's the best I can offer, based on what I could figure out just now:

While in Word, press alt-f.
Arrow up to "More options." Press enter.
Arrow up to Account. Start tabbing.
The update button should appear. Press spacebar and tab through the options.

I hope this gets you somewhere.

Hi List,

Â

This morning I opened a Word document and got the message “Office Updateâ€, the same as I got one time last year (a couple weeks ago).
The last time it happened, I rebooted and it went away. This time, it did not. I cannot open any Word documents—keep getting error messages telling me the program could not open properly.
Is this something with JAWS or with Windows? How to fix?

PS. I’m using Windows 10 and Word 2016. This didn’t happen before the latest update for JAWS and also for Windows. Not sure which is causing problem. Help!

Using Outlook 2019, I've had mixed results--occasionally it works, but a lot
of times, Outlook then acts like I'm trying to reply to the person
originally submitting the message. Crazy!

Subject: mute topic option

Hello all:

When I open an e-mail message, and tab until I hear the mute topic option
spoken, do I just have to press the enter key to have all further
messages(with this topic) "muted?

Thank you,

moderated Setting up recurring events in Outlook 2016

Hello,

I’m using the most recent versions of Windows10 and Jaws2021. I use to be able to setup a recurring event in Outlook 2016. I haven’t done it for a while and what I used before no longer works. Does anyone know how this is now done?

Cheers,

Kevin
