moderated update for focus 40 braille display

Marlo Green

I am having a little trouble updating my braille display. My USB will charge my display but even if I reset the display to USB, which I believebelievei have to do in order to do the installation, it does not recognize the display. I can use it in blue tooth though as I am now. I sure would like to update it though. Any suggestions?

Well, I’m getting a bit confused myself. It seems that I do get different results with CTRL1 or 2. As I look at my version of Slack, Slack Version 4.11.2, I feel like Slack works differently.

I’m finding that the long list of keystrokes, (CTRL+/, have no consistency. I’m determined to learn Slack since it appears that now, everyone insists in using this very ugly product.

Are there Slack users? I’ve bee looking for some kind of Slack  accessibility list but what used to be available is no longer valid.

It's a little promising but still not like before. What does CTRL+ 1 do in JAWS?  I tried looking it up in keyboard help but it didn't say anything.
In Slack, CTRL + 1 is a shortcut for changing to a workspace.

I was using JAWS 2020 with Slack.
Slack was putting JAWS into application mode regularly, and I'd press the + key to get back into virtual PC mode. This allowed me to navigate by regions fairly well.
I've installed JAWS 2021 and now notice I can't get out of application mode in Slack.  The same is true for JAWS 2020.
The only major change I'm aware of is that I installed JAWS 2021.

Any ideas on what might be going on?

Subject: Suggestions of how to use Google slides using JAWS 2020 and Windows 10 needed please

Hi All,

I was contacted by a professor about a new course I am beginning using Zoom. He wants me to be able to access google slides and be able to edit within the slides.

I do have a gmail account.

I have found some information on google documents but not google slides.

If anyone has any suggestions of resources to help me learn this, that would be great as I have never used the google suite and have my gmail set up to use in outlook.

I am a person who is totally blind, using JAWS 2020 and Windows 10.

I plan to have Zoom open on one device and resources such as google slides and the workbook and texts on a separate laptop with earbud for that computer tucked in my headset and microphone that is connected to the laptop I am using for Zoom.

Thank-you for any advice.

Respectfully yours,

Sharon Ballantyne

In the search field type, blank, and wait for the list to populate.

You should get 3 results and the first and third are probably the settings you're interested in changing.

I would first save the jaws settings in jaws utilities.
Then go to the freedom scientific folder and only delete the folder of the
version that is to be reinstalled.

If you delete that folder, you will delete all settings for all Jaws
versions you have installed.
Under %appdata%\freedom scientific and open the Jaws folder, you will find
subfolders for each version of jaws that is installed.

I don't know exactly what deleting that folder will do for you, but just
pointing out that there are more versions of Jaws in there you may want to
be aware of.

What will happen is that up on the start of JAWS after deletion, the
settings will be restored from C:\programdata\freedomscientific\jaws\XXX
whhere XXX is the JAWS version number. These settings are the factory
settings usually.

I thought some would be interested in this since it is not just for NFB Newsline subscribers.

If you stream NBC using Jaws, you may want to investigate turning on the Secondary Audio Channel for Audio descriptions.

Van Lant, Robin

So glad you asked about this again, as I needed to refresh my memory, too.  Such a great keystroke.  I’ve copied your notes and edited them:

First select the cells in the column that you want to explore.  With your focus in the top most cell of the appropriate column, hold down the control and shift keys, and hit down arrow once to select the range of cellsI also like using Control spacebar to select the entire column.

Now, holding the control and shift keys, press the backslash key – the one just above the Enter key.  Each time you press it, it will move focus within your select range to the next different value.  You can use Insert up arrow to read the cell value to see if it’s what you want without unselecting the entire range.

Hi all!

I’ve got a column of numbers in excel I’ve sorted them and some of  the numbers appear in numerous rows.  What I want to do is have the focus jump down to the next different number in the column.

I asked this question in September and got an answer.  But my notes are messed up,

So reaching out again for help.

The instruction I have are:

Ok, hold down the control and shift. Do not let go of theese 2 keys. Now while holding down these keys, hit down arrow, do not hold down the down arrow, just press it. wait a second, then hit the backspace key. The backspace key is normally above the enter key.

The person who had the answer was a Chris Block

So it would be greatly appreciated if you could write me directly because maybe it’s a timing issue.
