I just checked and my version of firefox is 78.02. It does not do that behavior with Jaws 2019 or Jaws 2020.

For what it’s worth, I have JAWS 2020 and I have stopped using Firefox for the most part because it crashes frequently. I spoke with tech support at Freedom Scientific who told me they are well aware of it.

Hey folks. Yes, I know JAWS 2018 is behind the curve, now, and that an upgrade would be beneficial. However, I’m not in a position to upgrade at this time. At the risk of running a huge struggle to continue using outdated software, I would like to know if anybody has any ideas of configuration settings that might make Firefox less crashy using this screen-reader. I know its’ an issue between interaction with JAWS and firefox and, frankly, always has been since the advent of Quantum. I tested this with nVDA (2019.3 and 2020.1) and it’s a lot less crashy. In fact I have failed to make Firefox crash even once using this other screen-reader. I know some users of JAWS 2020 have reported crashes, too, but I’m unable to test that currently and at a guess, newer versions of JFW should probably work better as well as NVDA. Anyway, since I’m not looking to downgrade firefox and not quite ready to either upgrade or give up JFW for the web browsing experience, in part because it works so nicely with my Focus braille display, just wondering if there are any flags/options I can alter in about:preferences or about:config (firefox’s “hidden” advanced settings page containing literally thousands of configurable options) that might help me have a smoother experience. Right now, since FF updated to 78.0.1 a week or two ago, everything from wikipedia pages to my old wisp’s webmail is crashing tabs. This only happens when jFW is running.
NB: I’m aware of other browsers and use them, so no need to suggest just switching browsers. Thanks!!

Or type the five letters assoc into the Windows 10 search field to bring up the file association dialog. Tab to "Choose default app by file types." Press spacebar, then start tabbing. You'll encounter an interminable string of file extensions. Mike B posted that you can skip to the approximate alphabetical placement by holding down the tab key for a few seconds. If need be, repeat until you arrive in the alphabetical neighborhood of the file extension you're looking for. Then tab one by one.

I suspect some may consider this to be off topic for the list, so I’d ask anyone to respond off list to my personal g-mail address:
tombehler@...
I am learning the ins and outs of the Zoom meeting app, and have been doing some test meetings just to familiarize myself with the various controls and options.
I know you can start and stop meeting recordings with the Alt R key stroke, but whenever I start a meeting, it seems that “record” is on by default.
I don’t need any meeting recordings, but can’t find where the recordings are stored so I can delete them.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Zoom meeting recordings are .M4A files which can be played by Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player. I don't know if there is a plugin for Winamp to play this file type.

shade Jonas, You are correct that the screen curtain in JAWS will not save significant battery on a laptop since it only turns off the actual display, but does nothing with the backlight (which is actually a edge-spill light, but that doesn't really matter). You have a lit black screen. Just activated it on/off with INSERT+SPACE,F11 and it's clear that the backlight remains on. Whether it remains on for hours I cannot say, and I cannot use my computer without looking at the screen. -- Brian

Well, there are several files here. The extensions are m4A, M3U, and MP4. None of them play through Winamp. I haven't yet tried taking them out of the Zoom folder and playing them from somewhere else, but I wouldn't think that should make any difference. Very puzzling. Tom Behler
