Thanks. It's still looking like defender is the package of choice. I do know it's improving but I did want to see if anyone had heard of any accessibility improvements in other security software. Just a head's up. Your probably going to see a repeat of my original message because for some reason it took an hour or two to post to the list so I sent it again. Sorry about that.

I sent this an hour or so ago but didn’t see it post to the list so I’m going to try again. Sorry if you all get the message a second time.

I’m wondering if windows defender is still the best antivirus software to use with jaws or if there are now other packages that are accessible now. I figured I’d ask because some time has passed and things might have changed. Thanks.

          I cannot definitively say this is what happened here, but you need to familiarize yourself with the concept of the false positive, which all scanners occasionally have.

          Also, the site, virustotal.com, allows you to submit either a file by upload, or URLs that would download something, for scanning by over 70 engines.  Unless you have a huge majority of these declaring something bad, you can be quite sure it's a false positive.  It's not unusual to have up to 5 of the engines flag something that all the others do not.  False positives simply happen.

Absolutely, positively incorrect.  And it's been incorrect ever since the redesign of Windows Defender, now Windows Security, for Windows 8.1.  I trust the testing of the labs that do this sort of thing a lot more than the pronouncements of random members on any forum/group.  For those who want to see what the professionals who test this stuff repeatedly have to say, See the most recent plus the last several years of historical test results from:

I have heard a lot about how Windows Defender has improved. So much so I
abandoned the ESET Smart security subscription I had because of
deteriorating accessibility.
I have however kept my old 1.7 version of Malwarebytes going and resisted
program upgrade to maintain accessibility although I let the virus database
keep up to date.
Thank goodness I did. During the last week Malwarebytes identified a Trojan
on my laptop that Windows Defender was completely oblivious of despite my
performing a complete Windows Defender scan after the Malwarebytes alert.
I turned to Windows Defender as Initially Malwarebytes was struggling and
failing to quarantine this Trojan threat.
On investigation it had infected one of the plug-in directories of
Videoland VLC. Uninstalling VLC did not succeed in removing the offending
files and predictably trying to delete these files manually also failed as
Windows identified them as being used by another process.
Eventually a full scan by Malwarebyte was able to remove this trojan from my
registry in memory and I was finally able to also delete the offending VLC
directories as a failsafe.
What was more concerning was the fact that Windows Defender was completely
unaware of this problem and failed to react.

Well, I think I solved the issue.

Apparently, after updating to Windows 10 1020004, I had to check the Run as Administrator in the desktop shortcut.

It has run normally now twice.

Braille Blaster: bb: 1.1.24.190-stable

 

If Jaws is running when I launch Braille Blaster, it doesn’t open and Jaws reports Lost Focus, and Braille Blaster is nowhere to be found.

If I unload Jaws and run Narrator, Braille Blaster opens fine.

If I have Narrator and Jaws running at the same time, Braille Blaster opens just fine.

I’m going to write APH and Freedom Scientific as well, but I wondered if anyone here has run into this kind of an issue?

Hi. I am a blind it student doing certificate iv networking from

laptop. Running windows 10 64 bit 2004 and jaws 2020 and also nvda 2020.
Now. Need to do a online assessment. And a external firm called heropa,
has a web tool. well does not load, or takes forever to load, is totally
unuser friendly and not accessible. Unlabeled graphics, unlabeled
buttons, menus buried within sub menus, etc, and no keyboard short cuts,
and some of the labelled buttons, does nothing. So, do have a remote
server given to me via heropa. For doing a assessment where I have to
install windows as a virtual network or install it, configure it, add
folders, add desktop shortu cuts, and desktop icons to the task bar, set
up and configure a printer. So. The firm when I did login and have a
free trial of jaws remote . they have windows server 2016 data centre,
and maybe did ask my main trainer Charles lang-ashe, about maybe
reserving a spare particion, then could do the assessment that way. If
not, what accessible free online servers, or virtual machines or cloud
are there. I know there’s no e-mail verification for Microsoft azure.
And when I did try to sign up as a student, last year, and tried the
call back feature. Because I am on the nbn and have a home landline
phone, says does not support voip phones. Don’t have a mobile phone. So
was able to sign up for amazon web services, seems accessible, but not
able to create any virtual machines, when I selected windows server,
said the operation could not be completed or not available. So, what
other cloud services and also other online free accessible online remote
servers. For blind people. Who cannot see and need to do this. Any
ideas, or suggestions. Got till tuesday  as this is a long weekend here
in Australia.

And so need some ideas.

Try a simple search. There are six fields for First, Last, birth location, birth year, death location and death year.

 

You should get the page titled:

Navigate to the heading:

The next line is the button:

Activate the button with the space bar, wait a few seconds and then look for:

Tab to the create free account link.

 

I've never used this since I already have an account.

I sign in and every 2 weeks I have to manually sign in and check stay signed in for 2 weeks.
