Re: Jaws And Open Book
Marty Hutchings
Mike, Thanks for this. I was not aware that this was
possible. When I tried to acquire a document, I got a message saying that
there were no scanners or cameras available. I have a HP Photo Smart all
in 1 printer/scanner connected. How do I get JAWS to recognize it?
Thanks.

Hi Pastor Gil,
Here's another option to use for scanning files. I more
often than not get better scans scanning this way.
How to scan files using a scanning device with the Jaws OCR
feature. Steps are below. This will only work with JAWS2018 and
newer.
1. Place whatever you want scanned with the OCR feature on your scanner. 2. Press the JAWS Key + Spacebar, then, O, for OCR, and press, A , for acquire. 3. Choose the scanner from the, Scanner & Camera combobox pop-up, tab to the, Acquire button, press the spacebar, and the scanner will scan the file using the Jaws OCR feature. It will then read it to you. This is GREAT! Note: The shortcut keystroke to acquire is, Alt + Q. To save the file you can export it to Excel or, after scanning select all the text with, Control + A, press, Control + C, to copy to the clipboard, then paste the text, Control + V, into a text or Word file and save. Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. *My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee it cleans the toilet. ----- Original Message -----

Your community needs more advocates such as yourself because, believe me (and as you certainly well know), most of the sighted world doesn't give computer accessibility a second thought. It's not something they need, and we all tend to focus on our own needs to a very great extent. understand that many things are done without knowing and programs such as Zemana

very accessible anti-malware program for screenreader users if the proper tweaks
are recognized and applied.

Well, if it started scanning I didn't get any kind
of dialogue to notify me. Since you got it to scan, were you able to
access the results? How accessible was the results dialogue after you
completed a scan? Believe me, if this is an accessible program and I'm
just not giving it enough time it would be great to have another viable tool in
the toolbox.

Hi Pastor,
Don't take what I said for gospel, so to speak,
since there are more than 1 way to skin the proverbial cat. I won't say a
program is accessible if it takes too much keyboard gymnastics to navigate
it. If you land on a, Button, it should be able to be activated with the
spacebar or pressing enter, but if you have to left mouse click this or right
mouse click that, then jump to a touch cursor just to do simple tasks the
program needs accessibility work. Glenn said in another message that he
was able to activate the scan button, but I was able to do that as well and came
up with choices that I didn't have a clue as to what they were. Jaws or
NVDA didn't give me any kind of dialogues that might have popped up when
attempting to activate buttons / tabs. Maybe this program is accessible
using different standards than I use, but I'm not going to waste a lot of my
time trying to figure it out when there other programs to use. I spent
almost 2 years working with Malwarebytes and everytime a version MWB update
came along we started all over again, but now it seems like MWB just don't give
a damn any more, so I got tired of fighting.

if you want to close any of these that are open, press the corresponding key. If you are stuck in the equalizer, to close it press alt+ G.
In addition, Winamp works like a standard windows program and is operable by using control + F4 to close a window. If for some reason, some of these hot keys don't work, focus in the window you want to close and press control + F4--not alt + F4--which will close the whole program.

I really miss the Favorites folder that was associated with IE. I would love to be able to save bookmarks from Firefox and Google to the Favorites folder and search by first letter and have them open up in whatever our default browser is instead of each browser having it’s own list of bookmarks. I have saved bookmarks in Firefox and in Chrome, but I then forget which one and can’t find them again when I want them.

It's too bad there seems to be no easy way to merge the list of favorites imported from IE with the list of bookmarks created in Chrome itself to create a single list that could be navigated by first letter navigation.

Additional commands and notes from Ron Canazzi:
With Winamp, showing all the various windows is a toggle with the following hot keys.
alt + W main window alt + E playlist editor alt + L media library alt + G equalizer cue manager alt + Q video manager alt + V
if you want to close any of these that are open, press the corresponding key.

Re: How To Access Bookmarks In Google Chrome
Van Lant, Robin
Like Orlando, I also still use the Favorites folder I initially created in Internet Explore. I have a shortcut on my desktop. If I want to ad another link to it, I’ll open the page in IE, and save the favorite with Alt D, then it’s there. Since Chrome is my default browser, clicking on the link in the Favorites folder on my desktop opens it in Chrome.

I definitely see this with regularity, but deal with it the same way you do.

Hi,
Maybe someone else has seen this. On a web page form, you will obviously have a number of different types of input, text boxes, combos, radio buttons etc. One of these is a “textarea” which typically is used for entering something like a large query or something to be sent. When tabbing through the various form controls, jaws will read out the labels associated with other input controls, but just says “edit” when it comes to the text area control. If you tab away from it, and return to it after entering something, it just says “contains text”. The label attached to it could say something like “please enter your query”. If you come out of forms mode, and read the page normally, you will see the label text. Has anyone seen this? Any work arounds?

Re: Anyone else having issues accessing Windows Emoji panel with Windows 10 Version 2004 and JAWS 2020.2004.66?
Norma A. Boge
Hi Maria,
My problem is that I have to do the Windows plus semi-colon keystroke twice to bring up the emoji panel. I’m glad I can access it, but it is a tad frustrating. Looking forward to having this issue resolved.
Best, Norma

Hi All,
I’m running the latest public build of JAWS 2020 (2004.66), with the Windows 10 May, 2020 update (version 2004). Since updating to this latest Windows 10 update, when I access the Windows 10 Emoji panel with WINDOWS+SEMICOLON or WINDOWS+PERIOD, JAWS either stays silent or only says menu, and using arrows or tabbing only produces the same result. This has happened no matter where I have invoked it—Outlook, Word, Notepad, etc. I have ensured that my window is maximized, and my Microsoft 365 Personal is up-to-date. If I try with the latest NVDA or Narrator, the panel works without issue. I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? Hopefully, this may just be a timing issue with this JAWS build being released prior to the May, 2020 Windows 10 update if others are also experiencing, and hopefully, it might work again with the June update which will be released after this Windows 10 update.
Thanks for any inputs!
Regards, Maria
