Has anyone tried the Touch cursor?
Shift + PC cursor, tapping the PC cursor twice returns it back to a regular cursor.
I have found that unusable screens can usually be managed with the touch cursor.
The touch cursor is not for computers with a touch screen.

You have quoted material that mentions both the NVDA Help Group, and the main NVDA Group.

In any case, regardless of the Groups.io group, it is a simple matter to set up message preview if you want to see the first message in any topic, and then make a decision to either follow it, allowing more through, or to do nothing, and no other messages from that particular topic will land in your inbox:

How many posts does one get on the list mentioned below?  Not a exact #, just a ball park figure.  I was on a NVDA list, and the posts 98% of the time were so petulant, I left it.  Petulant, meaning arguing over minor things and expecting software to be perfect.  How can it be when imperfect people design it. A circle is just a circle and no amount of wining will change that.

Rebecca, I’ve not encountered the problem you mentioned.  I had 2020 and now have 2021 of JAWS, with no notification changes.  I have at least 2 zoom meetings per week and when someone joins or leaves, I’m told by JAWS.  At times I actually turn off JAWS as I don’t need to know all the time who joins and leaves.  Often their connection is weak so within a minute of leaving, they join again.

I don’t know if that is a function of the Zoom basic scripts but you might want to check to see if they are there.

I’ve not had need to use Zoom since Jaws 2021.

However as a workaround I found that unloading Jaws whilst on that screen and loading Narrator with control windows enter gave a much more pleasant experience.

Yes that should work.

The only things to add I think it will come down as a zip from my dropbox which will have to  be extracted first.

Also I am not sure if it makes a difference here but I have avoided some install problems by using the application key and selecting run as administrator.

In view of the problem someone  experienced, as an experiment  I  went onto another machine without Jarte.

I too found the enable screenreader copied to clipboard instruction did not work.

However the following did.

  1. Install Jarte
  2. Close Jaws and start NVDA
  3. Start Jarte, Jarte will announce screen reader mode.
  4. Close NVDA and start Jaws. Restart Jarte and it sticks in screenreader mode for Jaws  also now.
  5. .Now finally  with Jarte in focus use Jaws F2 and find settings centre for Jarte and create the profile. Type edit in the search box and then tab down to uncheck enhanced edit mode.
  6. The only other thing I  think is to install the office Add in pack to improve Jarte compliance with Office Documents.

This all seems to work nicely to get a free Jaws accessible Word Processor for now.

MS Word can save and read Open Document Text (ODT) files natively as well.

Virtually all of the modern word processors can open the file formats created by their competitors, and save to that format, natively.  You can force conversions via Save As if you so choose, and there can be occasional small changes in formatting, but this is the product of changing the file format.  If you stick with whatever the original file format happens to be it should appear identically in any word processor that can read that file format natively (rather than doing a conversion on reading in to it's own default format "on the fly").

Hi Marvin,

When I setup Microsoft server 2016 on my desktop using VMware pro, it was a beast doing it without sight. However, after I got passed the install with sighted help, I had narrator set to come on upon start up of the server. I also went ahead and paid for the remote license for JAWS and had that also come on at start -up with a distinctly different voice; so, I could distinguish which OS running. I haven’t had any issues since.

Subject: windows narrator, hyper v and windows server issues for a blind student

Hi. Have two issues using hyper v with narrator.

When creating a vm, and then installing windows server 2019. Have not tried it with 2016. Narrator does not turn on, just hear caps lock on and off. And nvda does not turn on either. Also tried the audio end point builder and audio srv inside a vm, in windows server. Does not come on. Wish there was a way for narrator to detect if the client talk back to the server. Did try vm ware player, able to use the windows 10 talking installer. Did read the install screens for windows server 2019 essentials. But when it rebooted, no speech, and just the vm ware window. So no good. And virtual box kept chrashing when I tried to use it. So hyper v is built into windows 10 pro which I have. So for the most part it is accessible with jaws, nvda. So, any one got any scripts, work arounds, or how they get around it. Having to wait for sighted people to remote in to my machine, and then having to do this. Would like to set it up without sighted help. Microsoft has a gap in this space. Did give feedback on the user voice and also feeback hub if Microsoft reads my feedback. Unless you can direct me where I could contact the narrator accessibility team and also the windows server accessibility. Frustrated. Got 3 weeks to do two last practical assignments. And stressing out. Then every oen goes on vacation for a few weeks. Got till January  9 to complete my current course.

If any one has had issues, being totally blind, how did they get speech, under hyper v virtual machine. Don’t have access to a dedicated server. Remote connection manager, worked some times and connected, then would not do that. So just used the hyper v connection I had. And then when getting out of one of my vms, if I do a shutdown, does not go back to the host, totally chrashes my speech. If I disconnect, still get speech which is weird.

Any ideas.

Just frustrated

Able to use nvda as don’t have a jaws remote licence, going to purchase a jaws remote licence in 2021. Will beenrolling in the diploma of networking from http://www.upskilled.edu.au. Only blind student there online..

Marvin.

Hi,

When I open the settings app, I get 3 options near the top and my name.

They are, log in, update, rewards. When I tab around.

How do I remove the above as I have a local account on my PC?

Hi!

I need to confirm the speed at which my Internet connection is able to download.  I am familiar with certain “speed test” websites for that purpose, but which is an accessible website for this?

Also, on a technical point, if I am on my WiFi and do this, is the test result 1) between the Internet and my WiFi router or 2) between the Internet and my laptop via the WiFi?  Is it better to plug-in my laptop into the router via an ethernet cable to do this test so as to make the test the “1” situation?  In considering the “2” situation, generally, what is a WiFi’s speed (assuming 4/4 signal strength bars) between the router and my laptop?

Thanks,

Richard

I don’t know if that is a function of the Zoom basic scripts but you might want to check to see if they are there.

I’ve not had need to use Zoom since Jaws 2021.

Hi everyone.  For some reason when I installed Jaws 2021 my notifications in Zoom no longer read when someone comes online and so forth.  How can I fix this issue?  I have my setting to all speech when I’m on zoom and the notifications are checked.  Thanks.
