unable to backspace or delete text in Windows Live Mail

I am using the current version of Jaws 2020 and Win 7 and Windows Live
Mail.
When composing a message and I make a mistake I can’t back space to delete
it or select it and press delete. Sometimes if I unload Jaws and start it again
things will return to normal. The other way to get around it is to select what I
want to delete, bring up the context menu and click on “cut”.
Is this a Jaws bug? Does anyone know what could be causing
this? Tom
This appears to be a random condition as I had no problem with this
message, and yes the program is maximized.

I did not need to do a Jaws repair. I just went into my printer/scanner settings and opened the scanner properties and closed them again. That must have been enough of a kick in the behind for it to be seen the next time I ran the Jaws OCR using my scanner.

Hi, You had Twain right except that the “I” stands for Informative . Also, with the latest Windows 10 update the JAWS OCR may not work properly and a JAWS repair may be needed. This happened to me and JAWS could not see the scanner even though OpenBook still detected the scanner.

I just checked my Windows 10 scanner, and after doing the keystroke to scan a document with Jaws OCR it took a couple of minutes for the list to populate and show the Epson Perfection WIA option. When someone is referring to a, TWAIN driver, it's the, WIA driver option you will see in Openbook if OB were installed. Below are what the acronym TWAIN supposedly stands for: TWAIN literally means a, Tool Without an Interesting Name, or technology without an interesting name.

Does this HP all in one has a Twain Driver or does it just use the HP software? I’m not sure the Jaws Convenient OCR would see it if it has some other software that drives it.
You might want to check for a Twain driver.

Re: [External] cool trick with signatures in Outlook
Van Lant, Robin
Bill, I can, in fact, edit in the box. For example, I needed to update a small item in the signature I use for this list. I navigated to the box and made the tweak right there. JAWS read everything in that box. To prove my point to myself, I just went there now and created a brand new signature from scratch within the box and it worked just fine. My point was that, because I am often including hyperlinks in my signatures, I prefer to build the original layout in the email, then copy and paste it into the edit box. I can then edit from there.
I am using the February release of JAWS 2020 and Microsoft Outlook Subscription Version 16.0.11929.20776 on my company laptop. I know I have seen this issue several of you are referencing, it’s just not currently an issue for me. I’ll have to go see how this works on my personal laptop running a similar setup.

It is just such a pain to not be able to confirm independently that everything is deleted and then that the new stuff pasted in correctly without then going and starting a new message to then proof the signature.
But, sighted folks are in the same boat if they want to use a graphic in their signature. They cannot see it until they write a new message; it does not show the graphic in that edit box.
We just changed up the logo used at work for everyone's signature and imagine the surprise by the sighted staff when they discovered that.
O well.

Hi, Richard. I have been able to use CONTROL plus A to select all text within the signature box, and then put in any new information. Even though the signature box does not read the content, CONTROL plus A should allow selection of the entire content of the dialog box, thus making it easily deletable by using the delete key one time, after the entire content of the signature box has been selected.

Now if the Outlook engineers would only make the edit box for creating your signature accessible ... it isn't as far as I can tell. Or, do you have a trick for that other than getting someone with eyes that work?

Cook, Steve
I have 3 signatures et up on my laptop in Outlook. Just wondering, what issues are you having in setting up your signature?

Haven’t seen one yet. I saw one for AIRA and ACB that came out from ACB, but I think that’s the only one I’ve run across so far.

I’m curious if one can find any announcements of specials that Freedom Scientific is offering this summer. They usually do offer some sort of discount, and I have seen somewhere plans to do so, but the last FSCast didn’t reveal them.

You can also use Alt M and then choose your signature.

I accidentally discovered a cool trick in Outlook. If you have more than one type of email signature, based on the audience of your email, I thought we had to go select the one we wanted each time from the Insert Ribbon under signatures. Here’s the trick, as long as you have a default signature in any new email you create, you can simply arrow down into that signature text and open the context menu. The list of your signatures are right there for you to select from and the whole thing will quickly update. Sometimes the Outlook developers surprise me with the shortcuts they code.
