When I needed assistive devices, The CNIB said they would not help me unless I signed a contract with them to assess me, say what devices I needed, deal with them exclusively and the final was they had to train me. One of the things I needed was JAWS. I viewed that as extortion. For the sighted it would be the equivalent of not being allowed to look at merchandise in a store unless you contractually agreed to purchase it from that dealership/vender. IMO, I'd stay as far away from the CNIB as I could. It was their constantly trying to hit a home run with government agencies, as in insisting the client needed something a lot more then they really did. That was their undoing. If the client has no vision, they hardly need a computer with hi-tech video graphics.

Hi all,

Another fellow Canadian here. I saw the letter Richard posted. I did deal with
Frontier computing in Toronto for many years. I wrote them in the summer
though and there was no response. I understand they are somehow under
CNIB. Does anyone have any recent experience with them or other vendors?
I, too, would like to update my SMA before year end, but do not know of
which vendors to consider and what a true price point is.
Respectfully,

According to the article, and that is all I have to go by, it is “all” regions.

You would need to reach out to Vispero to get more detailed information.

I’m just a guy trying to help provide accurate info where I can.

I don't really either, David. I didn't think it was "ownership" eitehr as such but some kind of agreed-upon partnership between all these companies. But in the end, it hardly seems to matter for international customers.

What I don't understand is if they own all the distributors, what is there to work on? It seems to me a simple matter of leaving a file on a server somewhere, I don't understand the nature of the problem.

Good afternoon Sharon,

I personally have recently dealt with them at Optelec Canada back in this past October, who are located just outside Montreal to get a jaws upgrade to the latest version of jaws and found them to have really good customer service-they got back to me right away with what I thought was a really fair, comparable price. Yeah, in theory, but I think weh have to go through one of these dealers. iE, can't just get them from the website as it seems US customers are able to.
They've (Freedom Scientific, VFO, or whateveR) h ave said they are "working on it" for years now.

How did that hand in your pocket manifest itself? Wouldn't any Jaws reseller
in Canada charge the same for a Jaws SMA or upgrade?

Hi all,
For anyone who lives in Canada, I'm hoping you can help me. My current
licence is good until version 2018, can I just update my licence, or will I
have to buy a whole new licence and copy of Jaws? Can I buy from Freedom
Scientific, or do I have to buy from a Canadian dealer? I really hope
someone can help me, as I've never done this before. Thanks Madison

Hi
I'm not aware of any JAWS tutorials. I have find it quite difficult to use partly I suspect because of the memory/RAM/Processor power that's required to do that plus voice what's going on. Hopefully its just my PC however I suspect not.

Subject: Changed Outlook Contacts Behavior

Hello, everyone.

Today, I just noticed that the behavior of my Outlook contacts list has changed.

As of a few days ago, I was able to hit enter on a contact, and get relevant information such as  that contact’s e-mail address by simply tabbing over to the e-mail address field.  Now, I have to go to something called the SMT address page to get this information.

In addition, I recently was very happy that the issue of easily navigating the list of members in an e-mail group via the arrow keys had been resolved, but now, it appears that this navigation is no longer possible once again.

Perhaps an update of some kind has changed things.

I’d like to know if others now experience these issues, and if there are any immediate solutions or work-arounds.

I’m currently using the latest build of Jaws 2021 on this Windows 10 PC, along with Outlook in Microsoft 365.
