Carolyn:
I do not remember having this problem in Word 2003; however, I
know the Word 2010 control plus f command for find is a nasty,
awkward tool. I have not tried control plus f for years.
You might try this in Word 2003 too. I know this works in Word
2010. I use it 25 times a day.
Instead of using control plus f, instead use control plus h
followed immediately by alt plus d.
Type in your word, wait for the find, and hit escape (or tab to
"cancel search."
It works every time. To find subsequent occurrences, just use
shift plus F4.

Whenever I press Control F in a word document, it takes me to the
word. My problem is getting out of the thing. If I go to the next
page, it will say next occurrence or the previous page, previous
occurrence. I've tabbed and arrowed and hit Escape. Can't figure
out why it won't go away. Thanks.

track changes and Jaws & Word 2013

Lauren

Hi:

How can I accept changes someone has made. I can hear Jaws say inserted or
deleted followed by what someone else has done to my document, but can't
figure out how to accept those changes so they become a seamless part of the
document?

Sincerely,

Lauren

Hi again, Carolyn. I just discovered something else about that issue in Word. In my version of Word, and you may also have this in your version, if you press CONTROL plus G to go to the GoTo command, there is a previous and next button in that tab sequence. If you find a next button, you can press Enter on that, and you won't need to enter a page number into the edit field. This is good if you don't know the page number you are currently on.

Aha, I was so excited about a solution, that I didn't read ahead. I'll keep the Edit command in mind for documents in Office 2010.

Bill, this happened to be an old Office 2003, so try as I might, I didn't get anywhere with Edit, so I tried just hitting Control G and put in a page number - VOILA, you were right. So now, I hope that the short cut will work for you. I am so grateful to you for steering me out of that meshwork.

OK, Carolyn. I found a way around the problem, but it is a bit circuitous. What I had to do is:

1. Press ALT plus E for Edit.
2. Arrow up to the "Go To" command and click it with Enter.
3. It will ask for a page to go to.
4. Tab to the edit field and enter a page number.
5. Tab to the "Go To" button and press Enter.
6. Tab to the Close button and press Enter.

Now when you press Control PageDown, it won't say "Previous Occurrence" and "Next Occurrence" after searching for a word. The problem is that if you search for another word in the document, you will need to repeat these same steps again.

Sorry this was so complicated.

To Roy and anyone else:

I thought I had sent the steps I took to fix the problem of dropbox
automatically importing files from my main working thumb drive, but
apparently my post didn't get through to everyone.

So, here's what I said last night:

The steps below were given to me by Joseph the Free Tech Guy. ... Thanks
Joseph:

I know you can be much more specific with all of this, in terms of
customizing preferences for particular types of media and programs, but I
have decided to keep it simple at this point.

1. Press Windows key and type the following into the Start menu search
box:
autoplay

2. You will land on the following setting:
"Use AutoPlay for all media and devices check box."
You can uncheck this checkbox, and whenever you place a CD, DVD, thumb
drive, external hard drive, etc, Windows will not show the screen which asks
you what you want to do with the media you've just placed into your
computer's drive nor will it take action on the attached media.

I hope this helps.

You can uncheck this checkbox, and whenever you place a CD, DVD, thumb
drive, external hard drive, etc, Windows will not show the screen which asks
you what you want to do with the media you've just placed into your
computer's drive nor will it take action on the attached media.

I hope this helps.

Re: I3 v. I5 processor from the standpoint of a JAWS User

Merv Keck <blind5sparrow@...>

Hi,

I running Windows seven and while one was 8 gigs and one was six gigs, I
found that the one with 8 gigs ran a little faster even though it was an i5
sometimes than the i7 with six gigs. The only exceptions were times when the
slower hard drive in the i5 made itself evident over the hybrid in the i7.
Now I am sitting here looking at a brand new i7 with sixteen gigs and
unfortunately another slow hard drive because it was on sale at Amazon.
Other than that it is a really nice machine. The arrow keys even have raised
lines on them, laughs! But first chance I get I may swap out the 1 TB 5400
RPM drive for a smaller SSD just to make the machine really sing. The
machine also has an 8 gig SSD in there but I'm not really clear on the
purpose of those smaller drives other than to boost your boot time.

as a little surprised that I had two laptops that were both sixty four bit

Re: Google

Jimmy Jones

You could try CTRL+O and then type in the address.

Hi all

when I go into internet explorer it always opens a Google search page, now
this normally isn't a problem but like today I have a web address so there
is no need to search for it but I cant get to internet explorers address bar
to type it in.
if I do alt d it just says address and search using Google. so how do I get
to my address bar to type the web address in.
I am quite happy to get rid of Google as well as lets face it if i want to
use Google i go to the Google web sight.
oh I have windows 7 and jaws 12.

thanks in advance Joe

FW: [JAWS-Users] Dropbox Automatic File Importing Problem Solved

Tom Behler

What I do so that you don't even have to open internet explorer or whatever
you use is to hit the windows key and then hit ru for the run feature. Once
you hit enter on this you can type the web address you want in and hit enter
to go there.

That is why I have our local TV station as my Home Page, but have an icon on
Desktop for Google, so that if I want it, Google is handy. I hated that
getting into Search every time that I went to Internet Explorer.

You probably know that if you get on your Home Page:

1. Press Control O
2. Type in the name of the site you want for your Home Page and press Enter
3. Press Alt 4. Right Arrow to Tools 5. Down Arrow to Internet Options or
Options.
6. Press Enter; should be on a general page.
7. Tab to Use Current
8. Press Enter
9. Tab to OK
10. Press Enter

My system is old, and I haven't done this for a while. I hope it will work
for you or get you to the direction that will work.
