Thanks, Joseph, but sadly, F6 isn’t the answer.

Hi,

I think what’s actually happening is that focus moves to the Edge menu control. If so, press F6 to move to the document window.

Cheers,

Adrian,

Consider:  Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10

These sorts of completely atypical issues in anything shipped with Windows strongly suggests an underlying corruption, somewhere, and who knows where.  Those two utilities repair same, and harm nothing, so they're a good place to start.  It may or may not work, but at least you'll have more data.

Thank you, Brian.

May I make a suggestion for your helpful form instructions? For some reason, I couldn’t get power shell to work for me. However, Google led me to the following method that enabled me to run my system as administrator, and in turn both programs:

Windows-r

CMD followed immediately by control-shift-enter.

For better or worse, neither program detected any flaws.

I reported it in the beta but obviously they decided to ignore the report.

I was disappointed it was not addressed as it is a core component of Windows.

Good afternoon listers.  First, using latest version of jaws and windows respectively.  Anytime I try to use jaws to read any mail in the windows mail program, windows live, the program closes.  Having to use jaws counterpart; NVDA to write this message.  Program works fine with counterpart.  Does anyone else have this problem? I mentioned this to freedom scientific yesterday.  If anyone else has this problem, you might want to pass it along to FS.  Have happy holidays, new year and stay safe.

I set Office updates to automatic a long time ago. I was going to suggest making that change so that it happens during the restart process. However, that option isn't showing up anymore in my file menus. Here's the best I can offer, based on what I could figure out just now:

While in Word, press alt-f.
Arrow up to "More options." Press enter.
Arrow up to Account. Start tabbing.
The update button should appear. Press spacebar and tab through the options.

I hope this gets you somewhere.

Hi guys,
I have stopped using JFW actively as my main screenreader, but I still greatly love and respect this software (no, I don't use NVDA).
I am writing a script for JAWS which might be very useful for some people, but some stuff in it must be language dependent unfortunately. Is there a way I can get the JAWS language via script or better yet, a language of Windows? I know there is a scripting list somewhere, but I ask here since it is a relatively simple question.

Thanks, Debby, but no to both.

The alt keys does work with tab to move focus to another window. Also, I just tried closing the menu with the other alt key. Still no luck.

Here's the current status. When I open the Edge menu, deliberately or otherwise, I can't close it. control-w, F6 and shift-F6, another press of alt, the escape key: nothing works. My only remedy is to close Edge and start over.

I can't think even how to explain this. Can anyone?

Hi, Bonnie. In JAWS 2021,

1. Press JAWS key plus J to open JAWS menu,

2. Press ENTER on Options.

3. Press ENTER on Basics.

4. TAB seven times to get to Keyboard Layout.

5. Down Arrow once to get to Laptop Keyboard Layout.

6. TAB twice to get to OK, and press ENTER.

7. Your Keyboard Layout should now be on Laptop Layout.

It looks to me like the help topics only refer to zoom text for some reason, even though fusion is supposed to be a combination of jaws and Zoom text. Help has no reference to jaws, at least in my fusion 2021 version. That’s why I’m hoping someone can give me the keystrokes that I need without waiting until Monday to talk to IT. Appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you!

Hi Bonnie,

What will help in giving instructions to change the keyboared layout is, are you running Jaws from the system tray and are you using the capslock key as the Jaws key?  Also, does your laptop have a numpad or not?

Hi everyone,
I worked with Technical support last week on getting my laptop to work with fusion. We changed my keyboard configuration to laptop layout, but for some reason the setting didn’t save. I have gone over and over the interface trying to find the place to change it back to laptop layout, and I can’t find it anywhere. Help is not helping at all. Does anyone know where I can change the setting? I am using fusion 2021. Thank you! Also, for some reason help only seems to address zoom text, nothing comes up about jaws. Very strange.

Thank you, Bonnie

You will need to review the jaws settings to change the keyboard layout.
I suspect there is a layered key stroke combination to switch between the different keyboard layout
If you select the jaws Key plus the Space bar plus ?, – Should provide the list of all possible layered keystroke combinations.

moderated Can no longer close menus in Edge

Adrian Spratt

Hi. This problem started in Edge just the other day. For reasons I haven't yet figured out, an Edge webpage will be taken over by the Edge menu. No matter what I do, I can't close it. I've tried the alt key, escape and even control-F4, which only succeeds in closing both the menus and the webpage.

The menu may turn up after I've done an alt-tab to go into another window, but I'm not sure.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

Shirley and all,

A week or two ago, my sighted wife happened to be alongside me when I restarted my computer. It was taking a long time. She saw a message saying that Office 2016 was being updated. JAWS did not verbalize it.

Is this something with JAWS or with Windows? How to fix?

A couple days ago, I noticed that any message I replied to or forwarded moved way down in my inbox.  I replied to a message on Wednesday morning and wanted to recheck the original message.

Granted, I keep too many emails in my inbox, but I had to arrow down to a message in March before I found the one I replied to just after it.

I did not intentionally change anything about my sort by settings.

I didn’t want to waste time digging through the settings, so I called Microsoft.

In about 2 minutes, he had it fixed and explained that somehow I managed to add sorting options for forwards and replies.  Now it is simply back to sort by date and all is well.

That saved tons of frustrations at the end of a year that was full of it.

Here’s to 2021!

I’ve always had excellent results from calling Microsoft Accessibility.

I’m glad they fixed it for you.
