Re: Controlling JAWS in Zoom Meeting

Hi,

If you are using the latest version of JAWS 2020 and the latest update from Zoom Communication, you can silence speech when someone comes into the room by pressing Windows Key + S and you should hear the prompt Alerts on/off. It is a toggle command. I’m not sure if it works with older versions of JAWS. By default since JAWS 2019 Brian Hartgen gave Freedom Scientific the free version of his scripts to be installed with JAWS.

There are scripts you can purchase from Brian Hartgen and I understand those scripts help especially if you are hosting/co-hosting/managing a Zoom meeting. Otherwise the scripts that comes with JAWS is fine. Not sure of the price for the paid scripts of Zoom from Brian Hartgen.

Also Zoom has a bunch of keyboard commands that don’t require scripts and it is written as part of the Zoom client. Check the Zoom website for those keyboard commands.

Dear Listers:

When I join a zoom meeting using my computer JAWS always tells me when someone joins or leaves a meeting.  Is there any way I can stop JAWS from doing this all the time?

Yes, turn on speech on demand.  Insert+spacebar, then s.

The same insert+SPACEBAR THEN S GOES BACK TO FULL SPEECH.

Re: Video Editor that Works with JAWS

Hello,
You may try Microsoft Photo app.
I am not clearly sure about the accessibility with Jaws but I tried
with Narrator and it is working quite good.
If Narrator is accessible then of course Jaws will be.
Steps:
1. Open Photo app from start menu.
2. Navigate to new video menu and select blank video and hit enter.
3. Give a name to your video and hit ok button.
4. In the next window activate add button > from this PC and select
the file you want to upload.
(Note: You will have to upload the files one by one).
5. After adding all the files in the window select the files in the
order you want to keep . Remember, the last file that you uploaded is
selected by default therefore you will have to unselect it so as to
manage the correct order of your video.
6. Now navigate to "place in story board" and hit enter. Now all the
files are placed in story board in the order in which you have
selected.
7. You can choose play button to listen to your merged video . You can
also explore the options like background music, 3D effects and so on
if you want.

8. If you want you also try the trim option to trim your video in case
you need.
9. Now go to finish button and hit enter.
10. In the window, select export . Choose file dialog box will appear
select the location where you want to save the file. Your exporting
will begin and once done the created video will play automatically.
With Regards,

Hi again.

Turns out the JAWS help was my friend, and I found what I needed.

Now here’s a strange problem. I check what I download against an email message that is sent from this service. I open the message, and I switch to my download folder to match things. Problem is the Focus wouldn’t let me do that. I thought JAWS was the problem, so I restarted it with no change. Rebooting did no good. If I close the message, all works fine. Thankfully there were only 6 folders that were out today, but sometimes there are over 50 to check. As it stands, the easiest way to do this is with the QWERTY keyboard. Any ideas?

What are the keys on a Focus for mouse and jaws-PC cursor control?

Kevin Minor

Hi.

I’m at my girlfriend’s place, and I’m controlling my laptop with my Focus Blue 5th generation. I’d like to download music, but the interface requires the use of the mouse. Here’s the braille in keys I need:

Route PC to JAWS

Left mouse simulation

Move the mouse by pixels.

I’d appreciate this information fairly fast. If I don’t get it tonight, I’ll use my QUERTY keyboard and look it up. I’d just like something to do tonight before I go to bed.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Hold down Ctrl, Alt, and use Page Down to slow speech and Page Up to speed up speech.

My guess is that you've accidentally flipped the sort on the Received column.  You can sort your messages based on any one of the column headers (e.g., Subject, From, etc.)   The default is using conversation view, by date, with the main sort on the received column with the newest messages sorted to the top of the list, getting older as you go further down your inbox.

The easiest thing to do is use the View ribbon:  ALT+V,  RS   (Throw focus to the View Ribbon then activate the Reverse Sort control).  After that, based on what you've offered, they should be sorted in the order you wish to have them in.

If you are using Microsoft 365, press your alt key, tab to view, press space bar, arrow down to arrange by and you will see your options there.

It helps if you had said what e-mail client you are using with gmail or whether you are accessing gmail via the web.

My question is when I open my email it is backwards. I mean that it does not show me my new messages  my new message is all the way to the bottom. So how do I change that. Thank you for any advice.
