We just upgraded to QuickBooks desktop after using QB 2009 all this time. My wife does the books for the business so as far as accessibility, I’m not really involved. I do know that we paid $650 for a three year license that includes full support and updates for that time period. The $650 was for two licensed users as my mom needed to upgrade for her business as well. It would have otherwise been something like $400 for just one user for three years. We also used eBates that gave us back 7.5% plus the credit card that gives us back 2% on purchases so that helped cancel out the sales tax.

QB should work like any other accounting software after that three year period as it’s just accounting after all, but without the benefits of tech support and whatever bells and whistles they come up with. The only reason we needed to upgrade is because of change of certain tax forms for subcontractors that QB 2009 wasn’t able to generate.

I wonder how long QuickBooks will continue to offer their desktop version since they really push QuickBooks Online. I don't know about the pricing of the desktop version, but I assume that in addition to the initial purchase price you still would also have some sort of annual cost. I now subscribed to the QuickBooks Online Plus plan which here in Canada ist $50 a month, but as a member of the Canadian Fedderation of Independent Business I get a 20% discount, so I am paying $40/month or $480 a year which is actually I think about the same or a bit less than I used to pay for the Sage 50 annual plan which gave me access to their yearly release version as well as bad technical support which I never used.

For many people the Essential subscription which here in Canada is $35 a month or even the Simple Start which is $20 a month probabably is enough, but for my retail business QuickBooks will be integrated with my point of sale system and if you want QuickBooks to handle inventory you need the Plus version.

I believe when I once inquired years ago the scripts were $750, add to this the cost of QuickBooks desktop and potentially an annual upgrade/maintenance plan and the subscription for the online version sounds pretty good. Of coruse there is also the benefit of being able to use the very accessible iOS app and to use it wherever you are and not just one your computer.

I've never had any voice assistant, Siri, Sharky, Alexa, use swear words.

I know it happens, but I think one could make sure to speak distinctly and not in a noisy environment to reduce the errors.

I tried going into utilities and I thought I'd turned it off, but it would seem not, as it still goes off even though I've never said any wake word to it ever. It's annoying and I'd like to have it turned off permanently if at all possible. I'm running the latest build of Jaws

I agree. 98% of the time the dictate function gets what I am trying to say. Yes, it is ultimately the responsibility of the sender to make sure what is being sent is what one is truly saying with no grammatical or spelling mistakes. I find the dictate function invaluable when I need to check the weather or some such thing. If it is sunny currently but there is a chance of rain, I do not want to be caught on a mountain trail during a down poor. Dogs by enlarge don't care if they get wet, I don't want to be drenched just because I was too lazy to check the weather.

I have never changed the defaults, and any time I open a document in Google Docs (regardless of the specific type, docx, xlsx, etc.) that gets opened in its own tab (or window, if you have your browser set up to use new windows instead).  Just closing the tab with CTRL+W throws me right back to the Google Drive tab to look for the next thing.  Mind you, if you open multiple documents the Google Drive tab will be several steps to the left of where you are, and if you don't close all the things you've opened you'll need to navigate back there manually.

Hi Al,

Are you running Windows 7 or 10?  The Voice Asisstant won't show in Windows 7 since it's not availble for Windows 7.

For your Focus problem, try opening quick settings with, Jaws key + V, and type, focus, in the search field.

When the results populate you should have 1 result, Focus loss announcement, make sure this is unchecked.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

You can run the .exe file that you used to install Jaws 2021 and you will have an option to repair.

For me, the first item under Utilities is the voice assistant.

Are you sure you are on 2021?

I thought there was an option about the lost focus messages, but I’m not finding it right now.

Hi all,
On the topic of the Jaws voice assistant, can anyone tell me how to get rid of
it or turn it off? I tried going into utilities and I thought I'd turned it off, but it
would seem not, as it still goes off even though I've never said any wake word
to it ever. It's annoying and I'd like to have it turned off permanently if at all
possible. I'm running the latest build of Jaws 2021 and Windows 10 2004.
Thanks
Madison

Perhaps I never used the word wake.

It's on by default.

I did not know it even existed. I tend to stay away from voice assistive things
if at all possible. I've had some interesting experiences with the dictate
function on my iPhone as in saying , "Thrift store. " It came out something
entirely different which is not suitable for this list. I've never enabled "sharky"
So, don't understand Madison why it would be turned on in the first place on
your computer.

Hi,
I‘ve used the newest versions of convenient OCR often and haven’t found a way to send the text to any program other than Word. If you want to place the text in Wordpad, Notepad or anywhere in particular, your best bet is to select all the text with ctrl+a, copy it to the clipboard and paste it where you want it.
Hope that helps.

Tom
