I can help you with Goldwave. I've been using it for a long time. You can
download it and try it free for a while until you have performed a certain
number of operations with it. I can't remember how many. Then you can
purchase a one year license for less than $20 or you can purchase a
life-time license for around $50. It is very accessible and can be
controlled by the keyboard.
There are a great number of features. Some you will use often and some you
may not use at all. The help files and manual are extensive.

It's not so much a Jaws friendly program as it is an access friendly one.
If you have any questions, send me an email to rex.howard@gmail.com

Same here. There's a setting in Adobe preferences that makes the Adobe view, and not the browser's, the default. I recall reading that this is a recommended setting, probably by FS, but I don't remember where. The quick way of getting to preferences inside Adobe Reader is to press control-k. If Adobe can't handle the document, I save the file and convert it with OCR software to text.

I don't even bother trying to view PDF in the browser, even when I could see (prior to 2007 or so) it simply created so many problems that I just used acrobat reader instead.

or gives a 'document loading' message and never reads the document. We
have discovered that either hitting the back button and forward button
or hitting insert + escape to refresh the virtual buffer clears the
problem and reads the pdf file normally. I had another fellow JAWS
user test various pdf files on different sites I maintain, resulting
in the same problem. I even had both users set IE preferences to
retrieve new copies of files every time they visit the page, but still same results.

Both users were using IE 11 to open the pdf documents, using varied
version of JAWS (14 and 16). I did some research and did discover that
enabling fast web view on a pdf file can create problems for JAWS but
even after disabling this, the problem persisted. The document was
properly tagged, not protected and these were not large files (most
under 50kb)

Our conclusion was that the source of the problem was somewhere
between the pdf plug-in and JAWS. What are others' experiences? I do
know from experience that I have had other problems with pdf plug-ins
across many browsers even outside of screen readers. Any thoughts or
advice greatly appreciated.

Re: Jaws 16 Window media Player 12 help and keystroke command

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

Try using Control Panel to get to "Play all (I believe that's correct)." It'll give you options for playing about any digital media you care to name. You might want to take time to go through the various categories, set them up the way you want, and save your customizations. You're not locked in, as you would have been in earlier systems, short of a registry hack.

As stated earlier, I never used burn, and haven't used rip since changing OS's, although I've seen them both while looking for something else. I wish I could tell you the Microsoft "No Help" system would provide your answer, but, more often than not, those files are just plain pathetic.

Re: Jaws 16 Window media Player 12 help and keystroke command

Kevin Hourigan <kevinthourigan@...>

Hello Ted,
I was able to tab to burn, but if I remember correctly rip was in the context menu, and is not showing up now. Further Jaws is not doing anything when the disk is inserted. I needed to go to All Programs, and select Windows Media Player.
Thank you for your input.
Cheers Kevin.

Pardon my lapse of memory; isn't this the one that debuted with 7? It was my understanding that it would undergo no further development, so I presume it's the same one I have.

I am using the same equipment and have the same issues. Now, at least I am glad to know it is the new version, and not me. I have been tabbing and arrowing like a hampster in a wheel for 2 days, and look forward to a solution. I was able to tab to burn, but never did find rip.
Thankk you all,
Cheers Kevin.

I can help you with Goldwave. I've been using it for a long time. You can download it and try it free for a while until you have performed a certain number of operations with it. I can't remember how many. Then you can purchase a one year license for less than $20 or you can purchase a life-time license for around $50. It is very accessible and can be controlled by the keyboard.
There are a great number of features. Some you will use often and some you may not use at all. The help files and manual are extensive.

It's not so much a Jaws friendly program as it is an access friendly one.
If you have any questions, send me an email to rex.howard@gmail.com

Re: Jaws 16 keystroke command and help on window media player 12 !!

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

I've never burned anything in WMP, but, if it's not set to start automatically, start tabbing. Near the end of the list, you should hit a play button, which usually works for either CD's or DVD's. Come to think of it, Windows should ask you what you want to do with the disk after you insert it.

I would suggest that you contact broadcasters locally and find out
what they
use. Get a feel for what's the industry standard and focus on getting
facility with that set of tools. Some may have accessibility issues,
so
you'll need to work with the department in your school to get those
issues
resolved if at all possible.
You can find a lot more help regarding audio issues on the MIDI-mag
list.
And you might also want to talk to folks at a local IAAIS
(International
Association of Audio Information Services) station if you have one.
These
are the folks that produce programs for blind listeners, and they're
both
familiar with supporting blind folks and also familiar with broadcast
issues.

Hi!

You should look at "Audacity." It is a powerful audio editor and it is
free. Out of the box, it is accessible. Plus, there are JAWS scripts
for it that make it even more accessible. A link to its website
follows:

Subject: Broadcasting advice with JAWS

Greetings,
My name is Ariel. I am thinking about going back to college. I would
like to study broadcasting. However, I do not have any experiences in
this field.
Thus, I am interested in taking some lessons on the side before I go
straight to college. Also, I am setting out to learn how to use JAWS
with audio editing software. In a way, this will be aiming to get
myself familiar with the accessibility of audio editing software.
Any advice would be greatly appreciate it. I know there are seminars
for Office and the like, but is there something focused on audio
production?
Thank you,
Ariel

Thankk you all,
Cheers Kevin.

I can help you with Goldwave. I've been using it for a long time. You can
download it and try it free for a while until you have performed a certain
number of operations with it.

Ariel, take a look at the audio podcasts archive of blind-geek-zone.net.
I believe the Goldwave recordings are still available, if not you can email
him to inquire about them. he might know of additional recordings to check
out.
