Re: Non-Tablet Notebooks or Laptops that Work Well with Jaws

I haven't used this particular model, but I had an Acer Aspire that worked
well for me for about 5 years of very heavy use.

I'm running Jaws 16.

I'm looking for a laptop that doesn't have touch-screen capabilities but
works well with Jaws 16.

I want the laptop to have all the keys a desktop keyboard would have,
except the numeric keypad. Should have at least 4gb of ram and a fast
processor.

One I'm looking at right now is an Acer Aspire ES1 512 P0SY Notebook
PC. Are Acer Aspire notebooks usually okay to use with Jaws?

Thanks.

Dave

Re: jaws IE11 and netflix.

Peter Tesar

Hello,

I think that it is a graphics issue. I have used both IE11 and Firefoxand the changes made last year, have been worse for screen reader users.

I'm using the Canadian NetFlix site. Last year they updated the web site and I lost access to the search field. It used to be an edit field that JAWS could find, and now it is an icon that JAWS cannot find.

Do the American users of NetFlix have the same problem searching for a title? Is there a way around.

being read as numbers and not the written title.

Any suggestions?

You don't say whether or not Jaws used to read the titles, but I'm
assuming it did. I wonder if this is a graphics reading issue.

Re: 41.0.1Firefox

Brad Martin

I'm not seeing the unlabeled buttons in Firefox 41.0.1, but I installed some sort of add-on that returned Firefox to a classic look, whatever that means. I haven't noticed any problems at work though. I'll look tomorrow. No add-ons there. Frankly, I don't usually know when Firefox has upgraded until I hit Control insert V to find out the version number.

I can't find any options to change the toolbar arrangement or behavior.

Guess I need to press f6 to get past those buttons and back to the document now. But a single f6 takes me to a place where Jaws speaks nothing and I need to press f6 twice.
Also if one is at the top of the document and press shift-tab once and ends up in the address search bar. Need to pass all those buttons again.

Hi, Robert. Instead of using F6 to get back to the main document, try CONTROL plus F6. This should take you back to the main document on the first press of the key combination.

Any laptop of that type should work with JAWS.
I've been using Toshiba laptops for years.

Using Jaws with Visual Studio 2013 and Visual Micro for Arduino

John Pocs <jpocs@...>

Hi all,

I'm using Jaws 16 with Visual Studio 2013 and Visual Micro Arduino plug in
extension.

Some of the combo boxes do not open the lists when pressing ALT+Down arrow.

This might be application related or perhaps script related.

By the way, Visual Studio 2013 uses the script file for the 2010 version and
there is no newer one in Jaws 16.

Is there anyone using this development environment and perhaps can provide
some feedback?

Thanks,

John

Re: Registry Cleaner

No, this was several months back. Given my earlier experience, the download hassle, and the negative reports that came over the list, I think that's a no-go. I can't even remember the name of the list member touting this other program, but he made it sound really good. I kept the note around for a while, but must have eventually discarded it. I guess I've taken up enough time and space for one day.

Ted,

If it's old, I'd advise against, unless it has a way to be updated. The
database used for detection is usually updated to keep up, and being behind
might clean out things that should not be.

Tabbing through a bunch of unlabeled buttons after the address bar. This just started. I believe they were a list of different search engines before.

Navigating the main interface toolbars tabs search bar and such seems more difficult lately.

After adding a favorite, Need to shift tab to get to the document but now I end up on unlabeled buttons.

I wonder if PCMOVER would do this for you. It is designed to move files

able to tell you how to find it online, and I believe that it is "free".

Evening all.
I am really considering upgrading to W10 fromW7.
Now the question...
As my system now sits, with some extra programs,Anti Virus things, Favorite
Web sites, documents, Winamp and MP3 files, Scanner program, Printer files,
and so on for all the existing things on this computer.
What would I be getting, just a blank system with all the things that MS
would be installing with it, and not having any of my existing things, for
lack of a better word, and have to start all over again?
Hope you understand what I am asking, because some of you might have asked
this same question to yourselves.

Thanks for any responses.
If you would want to answer this query to me personally so as to not clutter
the list, please do so.
worthington@wi.rr.com
I am really interested in doing this, because there sure has not been a
great amount of negative things said.
Again, sorry to carry on.

JAWS as far as I know has never really supported Access. The way you can tell is that Henter Joyce which is the company that developed JAWS as well as Freedom Scientific, which is a merge of three companies, have never released any training material for Access nor conducted a webinar.

Yes, there is practically no material available for developing apps
in Access (or any VBA based).

I'm using common windows controls and appears the properties need to
be modified for JAWS. Some examples of issues Im having are:
- a password Textbox field, JAWS echoes the characters typed in and
not asterisk
- radio buttons (in an Option Group) when checked, JAWS reads as
Not-checked (and vice-versa)
- cannot Tab to the heading of a Tab control

Anyone else gone down this road?

Thanks
