In config.sys there is an item, 'application file for JAWS' with an
'enable' button. I enabled it, and now JAWS speaks automatically. Fs
didn't know, but the windows 10 list pointed me in the right
direction. config.sys is scary, but I only changed *one statement

Re: Windows 10 and All apps window

David Bailes

Hi Paul,
Unfortunately you can't use the first letter in the list of all apps, and I don't know of any setting. I don't know why this is the case, and have provided feedback to Microsoft on this issue.
You can use page up/down to jump in bigger steps.
The closest thing to first letter navigation is the following.
The list of apps is arranged alphabetically, and in addition it is grouped by the first letter of the items, and this letter appears as a heading before the items starting with that letter.
When you select items in the list using up and down arrow, home/end, page up/down, these headings are ignored.
However if you press tab, you're moved to the heading for the group. You can then use up/down arrow and home/end to move through these headings. You can then press shift+tab you move to the first item in that group.

Maybe Microsoft will put this right one day,
David.

original message:
Hi,

So just a quick windows 10 question. So in windows 10 the 'all programs '
option in the start menu has changed to the 'all apps' option. However
in windows 7 and older versions when in the all programs/apps window you
could either use the arrow keys to move up and down or type the first letter
of the program you wanted and it would then take you to programs of
which ever letter you pressed, so for example pressing J would take you to
the jaws program. In windows 10 although you can still move about with the
arrow keys you can't seem to go to a program by typing its first letter.
Does anyone know is there a setting that I can change in windows 10 so I
can use first letter navigation to get round in the all apps window?

Paul

Maybe the previous installs were corruptedd or maybe I simply overlooked

If you are using MS Office, there are two clipboards: One is the windows
clipboard which by default retains one and only one item; the second is
the Office clipboard, reached as barbara said with alt-h, then f, then o.
the office clipboard aledgedly holds 24 distinct items, any of which can
be retrieved. In my experience copying to the Office clipboard isn't
always reliable. sometimes I have two items when I should have three,
for example. Nonetheless, it is available if you have Office. JAWS
appends to the windows clipboard, rather than the Office clipboard.

use the Windows Copy (CTRL+C) or Cut (CTRL+X) commands to place text on
the Clipboard, it replaces any text already there. When using the
FSClipboard feature, text that you copy is added to any text that you
have previously copied to the Clipboard. This allows you to continue
adding text to the Clipboard until you are ready to paste it into a
document. You can only copy text with the FSClipboard feature.

To add text to the Clipboard, select it using the text selection
commands, and then press WINDOWS Key+C. The text is appended to the end
of any text already on the Clipboard. To paste all the text that you have
placed on the Clipboard so far, use the Windows Paste command (CTRL+V).
The text is inserted into your document at the current location of the
cursor. Each block of text that you copied is separated by a blank line.

Note: If you attempt to add the same selection of text to the Clipboard
more than once, the text is not added. This feature is intended to reduce
unintentional duplication.

All formatting is removed from text that you copy using the FSClipboard
feature. This can be useful in programs like Microsoft Word if you do not
want to include styles, numbering, and other formatting information when
you paste text into a document.

If you want to replace all of the text on the Clipboard with a new text
selection, use CTRL+C or CTRL+X instead of WINDOWS Key+C. JAWS asks if
you want to overwrite your previously saved items. Choose Yes to replace
all the text on the Clipboard with the new selection.

Take care.

If you are using MS Office, there are two clipboards: One is the

second is the Office clipboard, reached as barbara said with alt-h,

When I use Control + C or Control plus X, it keeps everything that I have copied or cut from the time I turn on the computer until the time I turn off the computer on the clipboard. I just press Alt plus H and then FO to access the clipboard. Then I press F-6 to get to the clipboard and use the down arrow to go through the dialog box. It works for me. I use JAWS 15 and Office 365/13.

Speech History Explained

Mike B <mb69mach1@...>

Hi All,

This feature can come in very handy when wanting to copy something Jaws
read, like a balloon notification, that came up briefly but, you missed it.

Speech History

By default, JAWS retains a list of the last 50 announcements that were
spoken by the speech synthesizer. For users of refreshable braille displays,
JAWS has always provided a mode where you could review this spoken
information in braille. When this mode is active, you can use the controls
on the braille display to review the last 50 announcements that have been
spoken by JAWS.

Speech History extends this functionality to users who rely on using speech
more than braille. If you miss one or more messages spoken by JAWS, you can
press INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by H to open a Results Viewer window
containing up to the last 50 announcements spoken by the synthesizer. When
the Speech History window opens, you are placed on the line containing the
most recent announcement.

To clear the history, press INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by SHIFT+H. The
history is also cleared when you lock the computer or completely log off.

If you do not want JAWS to keep a history of what is spoken, do the
following:

1.. Press INSERT+F2, and select Settings Center.
2.. Press CTRL+SHIFT+D to load the default JAWS settings.
3.. In the Search edit box, type "speech history" without the quotes.
4.. Press DOWN ARROW to move to Enable Speech History in the filtered
search results in the tree view.
5.. Press SPACEBAR to clear this check box.

Take care.

Re: Appending to the clipboard.

Ann Byrne

The keystroke is insert-space, then c. To find out, I did insert-space, then j; then typed the word clipboard. Insert-space, then j in JAWS 16 gives a place to query for the JAWS command you want. When you find it in the search results, just press enter and it happens.

Way cool! At 03:15 PM 10/19/2015, you wrote:

Found the answer! How to edit or delete contacts in Windows Live Mail?

Tim Ford

I contacted Microsoft’s access office. They remoted in, and she showed me. The trick I found out was to not go through the contacts button that comes up when addressing an email, but instead use control and the 3 key (not F3) to open the place where you can get to the contacts tab.

The sequence from there is a bit complicated, so I will just leave things there!

Re: Appending to the clipboard.

Mike B <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Adrian & Mario,

I got this from the Jaws help files, the append text to clipboard keystroke
has changed in later versions of Jaws to, Insert / Jaws Key, Windows Key, +
C:

Using FSClipboard
FSClipboard extends the functionality of the Windows Clipboard. When you use
the Windows Copy (CTRL+C) or Cut (CTRL+X) commands to place text on the
Clipboard, it replaces any text already there. When using the FSClipboard
feature, text that you copy is added to any text that you have previously
copied to the Clipboard. This allows you to continue adding text to the
Clipboard until you are ready to paste it into a document. You can only copy
text with the FSClipboard feature.

To add text to the Clipboard, select it using the text selection commands,
and then press WINDOWS Key+C. The text is appended to the end of any text
already on the Clipboard. To paste all the text that you have placed on the
Clipboard so far, use the Windows Paste command (CTRL+V). The text is
inserted into your document at the current location of the cursor. Each
block of text that you copied is separated by a blank line.

Note: If you attempt to add the same selection of text to the Clipboard more
than once, the text is not added. This feature is intended to reduce
unintentional duplication.

All formatting is removed from text that you copy using the FSClipboard
feature. This can be useful in programs like Microsoft Word if you do not
want to include styles, numbering, and other formatting information when you
paste text into a document.

If you want to replace all of the text on the Clipboard with a new text
selection, use CTRL+C or CTRL+X instead of WINDOWS Key+C. JAWS asks if you
want to overwrite your previously saved items. Choose Yes to replace all the
text on the Clipboard with the new selection.

Take care.

No one seems to have answered, so I'll do so: Yes. There's a way you can now
navigate the clipboard, but I don't remember what it is. Maybe worth a look
at the JAWS training material, or searching for the topic via Google, which
I usually find quicker than most internal search engines.

Maria, does that mean text can be appended more than once?

Copying to the clipboard just places one instance of adding to the
clipboard. If you copy again whatever was there before is erased.
However, if you append rather than copy again, your second instance is
added to the first and so on.

Hello:

Can someone tell me what the difference is between appending to the
clipboard, and adding text to the clipboard?

Or, is it just a matter of different semantics or terminology that
means the
same thing?

I believe that appending to Clipboard is:

Insert Windows C.

Bye for now,

Listers,

I need the apending to clipboard keystroke. It use to be windows
key+C, but
that doesn't work. I believe some time in the past that keystroke was
changed but I just don't remember it.

Thanks for your help!

I'm running jaws16.
