Could it be that the computer goes to sleep after a time.  I often find this happens with my JAWS when the computer appears to be on but I cannot get JAWS going unless I shut down (holding in power button) and restart.

Having said that, I managed to get a free lap top that according to a tech was a windows 7. It got upgraded to 10. Hi,

I just upgraded to the latest Cisco Jabber, which has incorporated accessibility into the main program.  Cisco recommends that I uninstall any previous Jabber scripts I had.  So, how do I do this?  I have copies of JAWS 2019 and 2018 on my machine. Do I need to uninstall the scripts within both instances of JAWS?

With footnotes, I am not sure from what you write whether JAWS is saying superscript or not. Every footnote number is a superscript so you want to hear that information. In any event, you can go into Quick settings with Insert v, type in “footnote” in the search box and down arrow to customize how you want JAWS to read footnote information back to you.

Hi. Since the January 2020 update for windows 10 1909, had to install a new retech audio driver. Cortana works for a while, then says I cannot hear you. And use a assus vivo book x 540 ua laptop solid state drive. And was using a couple of programs on January 1, vagrant and virtual box and totally messed up my os. And had to get a sighted it friend, to then do a recovery windows disk from my moms Lenovo laptop on a usb stic. That’s all went well, cortana, working, but now when I had to install the audio update. For real tech, cortana works for a few hours, then once I pull the lid from the laptop. It stopsworking and asays I cannot hear you, tab to make sure cortana can hear. So try to set up my mike, an internal and on the left side of my laptop, and the mike is not set up. This is so stupid and frustrating. Don’t want to uinstall the January 2020 update or roll back, and then have to then install software and programming projects. Definitely don’t want to do a reset of my pc. Happy with my set up and got programming projects, windows setup and will be create installer packages for my web, windows store, windows 8 programming projects. Doing a networking course from http://www.upskilled.edu.au certificate iv ica40418 certificate iv networking. Learning about windows 10.

This is so stupid. Might then post the issues on the realtech audio forums or maybe contact realtech, if they are in Australia.

This is so stupid. Never had this issue before. Driving me nuts.

And got all the latest windows 10 updates and did turn off audio enhancements. Not sure what that does. Got dolby stereo.

So, I can get to the cortana search and use bing and that’s accessible with the latest jaws 2020 and nvda 2019.2.1 I have. This is so stupid.

What do you recommend or think.

It's absolutely false.  The /H and /HIBERNATE switches are the same thing.  There are a number of switches to the POWERCFG command that can be specified just by their first letter.  If you want to see what those are, open a command prompt, do a CD  DOCUMENTS to put you in your documents folder, then enter POWERCFG /? > POWERCFG.TXT

You can then open the POWERCFG.TXT file with notepad and review all the options of the POWERCFG command at your leisure.

As I said earlier, Fast Startup is just a special variant of system hibernation.

In normal hibernation, both the OS state of Windows itself and the user(s) state(s) of those logged in at the time of hibernation are written out to disk.  These are retrieved when the system is next powered up.

In Fast Startup, only the OS state of Windows itself is written out to disk.  It is, of course, retrieved on power up.  The reason this can become problematic is if someone does not restart their system every once in a while, and uses Shutdown almost exclusively, corruption can creep in to that special OS state hibernation file, and if it does you can get some very, very bizarre behaviors that are almost impossible to fathom unless you know about this possibility and try doing a Restart.  Restart forces a complete shut down, with absolutely nothing about the OS state saved to disc, and when the machine comes up again it loads Windows 10 from scratch from disc.

If hibernation is disabled, it's disabled.  It's an all or nothing affair, and since Fast Startup is a special case hibernation, it is automatically disabled when hibernation is disabled.

I read a post on a forum discussion that using the /hibernate off just disables hibernation, and /h off disables both hibernation and fast start up, but I don't know enough about hibernation to say that is true. sounds a little far fetched.

Hello Brian:
If you turn off hibernation, is the fast start up option also turned off
along with hibernation or, is it still there, but hidden?
If it is hidden because hibernation is turned off, would it be a good
idea, to first turn off fast start up, before turning off hibernation.

From what you describe it does appear that you have hibernation
fully disabled, which would make Fast Startup an impossibility
(which is a good thing, in my opinion).

If you want to reenable the ability to hibernate for the machine,
you'll need to open an elevated command prompt (admin privileges)
and enter the following command:

*powercfg /hibernate on

*After exiting, and restarting your system, then see what shows up
in the Power Options dialog.
