Hello,

I just switched from WORD 2003 to 2013. The menu bar has been changed to
a ribbon menu for some years now. These ribbons are proving to be an
initial hurdle. I'm tabbing and arrowing in a fruitless search for what I
want.

When the ribbons first came out, Ihad heard that you could use some of
the old Menu Bar hot keys, but that isn't exactly true.

Alt+F doesn't bring up the old File menu.

Some of you provided the hot keys for changing the font.

How do I do a "save as"? That was in the File menu.
If I do a "alt+f a" I get a save as tab. There is no edit field.

How do I open a file? The ctrl+o gives me the open tab and recently
opened documents.
There is no edit field to type in the drive, path file-name that I used
to do.

I got started by using the tree to select an existing WORD document It
was opened by WORD. I could then open it as a recent document.

I just found the JAWS training, as DAISY books. These can be downloaded
so I downloaded the VirtualRibbonMenus.exe. It is an executable file.
How do I get it into a DAISY book format to transfer to my DAISY player?

Thanks for any help.
Peter T.

Carolyn Arnold <4carolyna@...>

You can change the font by pressing Alt-O-F or Shift Control-F or, best
of all, Control D, which always has been delete - go figure. I learned
the second and third commands from listers. I too jumped from 2003 to
2013. Actually, I had a brief stint with 2010, which is about the same as
2013.

I haven't noticed sound fluctuation. The problem that I have is in
Outlook, sometimes, when I navigate, JAWS does not talk. Usually running
Spell Check gets it back, but often, I'm not through with an e-mail when
I have to do that.

Hello list,

I don’t know if others are experiencing this with the new Jaws or if it
was something that was present during the beta.

I downloaded and installed Jaws 17 yesterday on my Dell Vostro laptop
Windows 7 after wrapping up business for the week and one thing I’m
immediately noticing is that the sound (when Eloquence speaks) dips every
now and then.

This was not an issue with JFW 16 and I’m pretty sure I didn’t deal with
it in JFW 15, but I do recall encountering this problem a while back. I
remember it was a pain and it took me forever to resolve it. Also, it
doesn’t seem to be preset when using my headset.

The only thing different on my machine since dealing with this sound
issue is the new Jaws 17. I’m almost hopeful that others will say that
they too are having the same problem because I’d really hate to have to
go back and figure out how I got rid of this problem last time since
again, it was so long ago and wasn’t exactly easy if memory serves.

I usually participate in the beta cycle, but this year, I passed so this
is why I’m not entirely sure if it’s Jaws.

I’m still running JFW 16 on my desktop and don’t have this sound
fluctuation with it.

Thanks,

I don't normally use eloquence for say all operations (I use eloquence
mainly in programming environments while using a natural sounding
synth for things where I expect large amounts of normal text) but just
did one and did not notice any volume inconsistency. The only thing
that did seem different was that the speech rate did not increase as
the text was read, which was a nice improvement from prior jaws
versions.

is the new Jaws 17. I’m almost hopeful that others will say that they too
are having the same problem because I’d really hate to have to go back and
figure out how I got rid of this problem last time since again, it was so
long ago and wasn’t exactly easy if memory serves.

I usually participate in the beta cycle, but this year, I passed so this is
why I’m not entirely sure if it’s Jaws.

I’m still running JFW 16 on my desktop and don’t have this sound fluctuation
with it.

Thanks,

going back to an older version

Jim L

Heya folks,

Have the latest 16 Jaws instaled and I was having an issue on a website
trying to download a podcast, anyway I decided to exit 16 and load up the 15
I still had installed but its strange as it came up expired/40 minute mode,
I have never come across this before as I'm a paid user of 15 also. I
panicked for a moment thinking gosh hope my 16 loads back up authorized
still and thank heavens it did.

Anyone here can explain what has happened? And can I get 15 working again
without stuffing my 16?
Or is this a new thing now with Jaws when a new version number is installed
the older becomes expred?

Any help will be appreciated

Cheers,

Jim

Just switched to WORD 2013, any more hot keys suggestions?

Peter Tesar

Hello,

I just switched from WORD 2003 to 2013. The menu bar has been changed to a ribbon menu for some years now. These ribbons are proving to be an initial hurdle. I'm tabbing and arrowing in a fruitless search for what I want.

When the ribbons first came out, Ihad heard that you could use some of the old Menu Bar hot keys, but that isn't exactly true.

Alt+F doesn't bring up the old File menu.

Some of you provided the hot keys for changing the font.

How do I do a "save as"? That was in the File menu.
If I do a "alt+f a" I get a save as tab. There is no edit field.

How do I open a file? The ctrl+o gives me the open tab and recently opened documents.
There is no edit field to type in the drive, path file-name that I used to do.

I got started by using the tree to select an existing WORD document
It was opened by WORD. I could then open it as a recent document.

I just found the JAWS training, as DAISY books. These can be downloaded so I downloaded the VirtualRibbonMenus.exe. It is an executable file. How do I get it into a DAISY book format to transfer to my DAISY player?

Thanks for any help.
Peter T.

Computer sound dipping with Jaws 17

Cristóbal

Hello list,

I don’t know if others are experiencing this with the new Jaws or if it was
something that was present during the beta.

I downloaded and installed Jaws 17 yesterday on my Dell Vostro laptop
Windows 7 after wrapping up business for the week and one thing I’m
immediately noticing is that the sound (when Eloquence speaks) dips every
now and then.

This was not an issue with JFW 16 and I’m pretty sure I didn’t deal with it
in JFW 15, but I do recall encountering this problem a while back. I
remember it was a pain and it took me forever to resolve it. Also, it
doesn’t seem to be preset when using my headset.

The only thing different on my machine since dealing with this sound issue
is the new Jaws 17.

I’m still running JFW 16 on my desktop and don’t have this sound fluctuation
with it.

Thanks,

Right, I did not mean Delete, of course, it is Insert, but interesting
that it works in both places for JAWS.

Hi Carolyn,

It's not the Delete Key that works as the Jaws Key, it's the Insert Key
in both the 6 pack & the numpad.
Take care.

Adrian, I am amazed. Both Control-Shift-F, as well as Control-D worked
for me in a clean word document, and then I have used Alt-O-F, and that
works too. I also tried it with the Shift-F-10, which works. As my
husband has said there are usually at least two ways to do anything on a
computer. I likd Control-D, but thought that was Delete.

Incidentally, just to see if it would work, the Delete Key on my Six Pack
works as the JAWS Key, the same as the Delete Key on the Num Pad.

Hi, Feliciano.

I understand your point about your clients' preference, but for me, the
simplest way of getting to the font dialog is with control-shift-f or
control-d. Both shortcuts do the same thing in a single keystroke-I have
no idea why the duplication. Maybe your clients would like being spared
some arrowing around!

I can work around it, but my clients like to go about it with the
application key. I will repair JAWS 17 on Monday. Thanks,

OK, Judith. I tried again, but after on Inbox and All something, tabbed once
and got some options. I didn't tab again, but you might find more. I did
check large print, but see I still have 11 point Calibri, which I cannot get
rid of. I think when I originate a message I have 12 or 14 point Arial
Black, will have to check. Anyway, then, I had a hard time getting out of
