Re: Chrome questions

Greg Nickel

David.

I find chrome challenging when filling out forms within the context of a web
page. I have found that I can fill in the forms okay but navigating is not
consistent. For example in entering my social security number there is a 3
part field. I simply type my social and it automatically moves me to the
next field when appropriate Ie. xxx xx xxxx. (3 characters then 2 then 4 for
the social. However if I want to go back and check that its entered
correctly the usual navigation doesn't work well and I have to use a
combination of techniques to get the information within each form box of
that group.

Any suggestions for form fields within web pages and in a related question
as it relates to form fields in pdf documents.

Thanks.
Greg

Hi there,
This is David Moore, the original poster concerning Chrome. I do not believe

there is a list to discuss Chrome, How ever, I have used it a lot and can
answer your questions. Here is my info.
email:

Skype ID:

Here is the answer to your help questions. If you down arrow through the
Chrome menu, you will hear a help and about option just below settings. When

you press enter on that, the Help opens up in a web page that is very easy
to navigate. You don't need an Internet connection to use this Web Page. It
just open's up in your browser, but you are not sending info over the
Internet. As you navigate this web page, there are links for many topics
that you want to know about. For example, there is a link that says key
commands. If you press enter on that link, you will get all of the key
commands for Chrome. For JAWS settings, You do not need specific settings
made to work in Chrome. The one vertical Chrome menu has all that you need.
Just press right arrow on bookmarks, and you on your book marks. All the
same navigation key commands work just as they do in Firefox. Please contact

me by email, or request me on Skype and we can talk all about it. Also, when

I finish with working with Chrome and have answered all questions, I will do

a tutorial on Chrome. Take care.

Try control plus enter for some of those.
My latest surprise.

I'm using the same version. When Chrome and JAWS work together, moving from page to page is much, much faster than with either IE or FF, but I keep encountering websites where data can't be entered. The latest is Yahoo Finance, where stock symbols can't be entered.

Two tips:

I kept getting a warning about Chrome not being the default. I finally heard that JAWS was telling me to press alt-shift-a. When I did so, I tabbed through to "Don't ask again" and checked it.

Control-d works to create a favorite, but initially I couldn't edit the name that popped up. However, you can tab to an edit field and create your own name.

Hi all.
I have been experimenting with Google Chrome Browser, and I have
found that it is very accessible and easy to use. More than that, I
can open the same web site in half the time as with IE or Firefox. It
never crashes, and it is more stable than any other browser. It is
the best browser when it comes to streaming videos and other media by
far. The video never pauses for example. In IE, the same video pauses
a few times for a few seconds. Also, Google Chrome is the easiest
browser to use. Yes, I am not kidding. Simply press enter on the
browser, and the home page opens. I have mine set to Google of
course. Now, just press alt and the screen reader will say chrome
button. If you press down arrow, every setting and menu you will ever
need is in that one vertical column. The history, delete history,
book marks, are all in that one vertical menu just by pressing the
alt key on the home page. All navigation JAWS short cut keys work in
Google Chrome. I have not found anything yet that is n ot
accessible. Also, every JAWS key command works in Chrome just like
in IE. You can just press alt + D for the address bar for example. I
will continue to play around with Google Chrome a little more, and I
will be ready to do an Audio tutorial for you guys. You will not
believe just how much better Google Chrome is over any other browser.
You will hear it with your own ears when I send you the tutorial
probably by Friday. I know some of you will use Chrome as your
default browser. God bless and have a great night. Talk to all of you
soon.

Here is the answer to your help questions. If you down arrow through the Chrome menu, you will hear a help and about option just below settings. When you press enter on that, the Help opens up in a web page that is very easy to navigate. You don't need an Internet connection to use this Web Page. It just open's up in your browser, but you are not sending info over the Internet. As you navigate this web page, there are links for many topics that you want to know about. For example, there is a link that says key commands. If you press enter on that link, you will get all of the key commands for Chrome. For JAWS settings, You do not need specific settings made to work in Chrome. The one vertical Chrome menu has all that you need. Just press right arrow on bookmarks, and you on your book marks. All the same navigation key commands work just as they do in Firefox. Please contact me by email, or request me on Skype and we can talk all about it. Also, when I finish with working with Chrome and have answered all questions, I will do a tutorial on Chrome. Take care.

I don't see where the lack of a merge utility is such a show stopper. It
is not a question of not providing a merge utility but you simply can not
merge the old scripts with the new scripts because of the changes in even
low level function in order to work most efficiently under win 10. You
just can not merge. Now 17 to 18 will most likely be able to be merged
because the changes won't need to be so dramatic and the functions that
work under one will work under the other.

Re: Spell check, quick keys command

Peter Tesar

Hello,

I tried the 2 quick keys options (in spell check) and only one works.

In WORD 2013, I typed the following line with 4 deliberate mistakes:
the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog

I never used F7 for the spell check.

I toggled on the quick keys with ctrl+z
Then I pressed the letter "m" and heard the misspelled word followed by the entire line.
Repeated pressing of "m" gave me the next misspelled word

The alt+l does not give a list of misspelled words. I believe that the quick command is alt plus l.
Are there any other quick keys commands. I can't find anything about quick keys in the JAWS help.

Hello Carolyn,

Yes I do use F7 to do a spell check. . That is not a list.

Ann sent the tip on use of quick keys.

Here is what she sent:
There are JAWS hotkeys that work with spell check. turn on quick keys
with insert-z. Alt-l will list misspelled words...

She says that the alt+l hot key is supposed to produce a list. It does
not do anything for me.

Hello,

In WORD 2013, the use of ctrl+z to togglequick keys is handy.

But the alt+l does not bring up a list of misspelled words.

The "m" for the next misspelled word does work and I will find this
very useful.

Thanks.

I learned the hard way - new JAWS, dictionary gone. So, I just
reconstructed. That is way easier than JAWS locking up in an e-mail, or
as in this case, I could not reply without having to hit Shift Control R

private one to get it to take a reply.

I think with 17, it was a priority situation. Different ones of us have
different priorities. I am thinking that with 17, they must have had
challenges with Windows 10 in mind that sort of eclipsed things like
keeping JAWS reading in Outlook. So, consequently I have started my
bombardment of Insert Windows J - three times today. I'm sure if it
continues and I continue, they won't be thrilled about contacting me and

Sometimes, I just scratch my head at these kinds of decisions.

I certainly will sign any such petition, if it is created.

I'm looking to upgrade to Jaws 17, possibly during the college teaching
semester break, but that won't be for about 8 weeks for me at this point,
and I sure would like to have the use of the merge utilities feature
again.
I know there have been issues with it at times, but the convenience and
ease of using it far outweighs any problems, in my opinion.

I'm going to write to FS Tech Support and ask for this deficiency to be
fixed. I hope others will do the same so they realize how important this
is.
Can you imagine a popular commercial application forcing users to start
all over again with the settings they've created over the course of
years? Note that "merge" was misspelled in the subject line, which I've
corrected.

They have the excuse that older version settings can know longer being

replacement tool wich could be in 17?
Now you have to manually change everything? Is it possible perhaps to

I find it so tragic that they spend the hole year on smart navigation,

Re: Google Chrome is totally accessible

Dennis Clark <dennis@...>

Hello Adrian,
I haven't any experience using Yahoo Finance, but I just visited the site on a friends computer who is running Windows 7, Google Chrome 64 bit which she installed yesterday, and Jaws 14. On the website I entered amzn, and it pulled up Amazon and then we entered MS and it pulled up Morgan Stanley. I assume this is what it is supposed to do, so Google Chrome appears to be working on the system I described above. I can't recall which Windows and Jaws versions you are running.
Best,
Dennis

I am figuring out how to download better. I will keep working over the weekend and up date you next week on how I am coming along. Having all settings, scripts, and all changes we make to JAWS stored in the cloud excites me a lot. If FS created a service for us to do this, We would never lose our settings and our own scripts ever again. I agree. Bring it on.

Hello everyone,

For some having JAWS store your user settings in the cloud is big.
I have made this suggestion to FS for some time and would like to see it
become a reality. Your authorization code would be stored with your user
settings allowing JAWS to retrieve information such as saved settings
whenever you upgrade to a new version or install and authorize it on
another device. Bring it on FS!

Re: merge utility - copying "library files" ...

Hi Jim,

Try the following:
1. Press, Windows + R, to open the Run dialogue, type in, a single period, &
press enter. This should take you to your name folder in the Users folder
of your operating system drive.
2. Press enter on, APPData, arrow down to, Roaming, & press enter.
3. Press the letter, F, until you land on Freedom Scientific, & press enter.
4. Press the letter, J, & with Jaws highlighted press enter.
5. You will now be in a list of the installed versions of Jaws. Highlight
the version you want to copy the DEFAULT.JDF file of, the, DEFAULT.JDF, file
is your dictionary file, & press enter.
6. Press the spacebar on, Settings, press enter, press the spacebar on, ENU,
& press enter. Now, press the letter, D, until you land on, DEFAULT.JDF, &
press, Control + C to copy it to the clipboard.
7. Press the Backspace Key or Alt + left arrow until you are back in your
list of installed Jaws versions.
8. Now, arrow down to the version of Jaws you want to copy your dictionary
file to, press enter, press the spacebar on, Settings, press enter, press
the spacebar on, ENU, & press enter. Press, Control + V, to paste the
dictionary file into this Jaws version. You will get a dialogue stating
that this file already exists, & would you like to overwrite it, or
something like that, tab to the, Yes button, & press enter.

You have just moved your default dictionary. Just to make sure everything
is cool unload Jaws & reload it.

Take care.

kept wondering why I had to keep adding items, that I knew should be there,
into my dictionairy! I just assumed that it was a JAWS peculiarity.

So, would someone put me out my misery and provide some easy-to-follow

That would be okay but I have thousands of dictionary entries (enough
so that I run into the hard limits of 2000 entries for each of the
default and program dictionaries). And also enough that I have
problems each year as FS expands the default dictionary (and
unfortunately most of those additions are for languages other than
English and so I end up deleting them).

fast I have gotten since JAWS 4.5 up to 17.

Bye for now,

Carolyn

Note that at least in the case of dictionary and script files you don't
actually have to start over, you just have to copy the files yourself. I
don't know if there are enough differences to actually make that not work
for .jcf files or not, I didn't try with those.

Can you imagine a popular commercial application forcing users to
start all over again with the settings they've created over the course
of years? Note that "merge" was misspelled in the subject line, which
I've corrected.

I agree completely. Enough said.

Hello.

I'm very upset for fs removing the murg utility option in jaws 17.
They have the excuse that older version settings can know longer
being important in 17. I don't know if I must laugh. If they new that
it would happen, why did they not make a priority to implement a
replacement tool wich could be in 17?
Now you have to manually change everything? Is it possible perhaps to
use the settings packager to acomplish that?
I find it so tragic that they spend the hole year on smart
navigation, wich is not even such a remarkable feature, really this
was going to be more bennifishil to more people and now that its not
ready it will affect everyone negatively.

Re: Jaws and the Cloud, was Jfw Digest, Vol 54, Issue 7

Hello everyone,

For some having JAWS store your user settings in the cloud is big. I have made this suggestion to FS for some time and would like to see it become a reality. Your authorization code would be stored with your user settings allowing JAWS to retrieve information such as saved settings whenever you upgrade to a new version or install and authorize it on another device. Bring it on FS!
