Tom, the reason why I said I'm considering moving to supernova, is
much more than the utility issue. This thing just motivating me more.
Its also for the fact that upgrades will work me out cheaper as
dolphin don't have such a busy skedual. Yes they don't have

I totally agree. Thanks for those who support me. I think for most of us its
about time to move and talk with our wallits. I'm strongly considering to
move over to supernova. They don't upgrade every year for the sake of
meeting a stupid skedual, and therefore its cheaper to upgrade whenever it
arrives. Only thing is they stil need to support some apps better before I
can really make that switch.

Hi All,

There's no need to craft a petition or anything else. Below tells
about the Merge Utility & why it's missing in Jaws 17, for now
anyways. This comes from What's new in Jaws 17.

Merge Utility No Longer Available

Major changes have been made to improve the JAWS localization process.
This
included reorganizing many of the JAWS settings files. Due to these
changes, the Merge utility is no longer installed with JAWS 17 as
settings from prior versions cannot be merged. We are planning a
solution for the future which will replace this utility and provide an
even greater benefit for our customers.

Take care.

I don't know how appropriate or beneficial this could be, but if
someone on the list would be willing to craft a petition regarding
this issue, we might be able to get enough signitures to make an
impact.

Sometimes, I just scratch my head at these kinds of decisions.

I certainly will sign any such petition, if it is created.

I'm looking to upgrade to Jaws 17, possibly during the college
teaching semester break, but that won't be for about 8 weeks for me at
this point, and I sure would like to have the use of the merge
utilities feature again.
I know there have been issues with it at times, but the convenience
and ease of using it far outweighs any problems, in my opinion.

Re: Merge Utility, Why It's Missing, Explained

If considering switching, remember that, at one time recently, Window eyes
offered their screen-reading "free" to users of MS Office. And, as I
mentioned before, there is always MVDA, also "free".

If possible, could you provide a link to check out "supernova"?

As you can see, I too am considering my alternatives!

Take care.

Thank you, Ann. Needless to say, it works. However, with IE as my default, naturally when I click a favorite, IE takes over. I won't make Chrome my default until various problems are solved. It would be nice to find Chrome "fully" accessible because it runs much better than the other browsers, but I'm not yet convinced. I hope David Moore can address bookmarks and other issues.

Hi.

I can't get favorites, which Chrome calls bookmarks, to work as
quickly as they do in IE. Here's what I've figured out so far. I
hope the gaps can be filled in.

You get to bookmarks by pressing alt for the menu, then arrowing
down. Press enter on bookmarks. Here, I'm told that the shortcut
control-shift-b brings up bookmarks, but that shortcut isn't working
on my system when I'm outside this menu. Each time I have to go
through the menu.

In IE, I press alt-a to bring up my favorites list, and first-letter
navigation works. I can't find anything this simple using Chrome.

One item in the bookmarks submenu allows you to import favorites
settings. I clicked on this, tabbed through the options, and was
told at the end that I was successful. However, nothing seems to
have been imported.

Any ideas?

I don't see where the lack of a merge utility is such a show stopper. It
is not a question of not providing a merge utility but you simply can not
merge the old scripts with the new scripts because of the changes in even
low level function in order to work most efficiently under win 10. You
just can not merge. Now 17 to 18 will most likely be able to be merged
because the changes won't need to be so dramatic and the functions that
work under one will work under the other.

While in the Chrome window, go into JAWS quick settings with JAWS key+v, then press f for "forms mode." Arrow down until you hear something like "Auto forms." Press spacebar here until you hear "Auto forms manual." Tab to OK and press enter.

If this isn't clear, please post again.

Dennis,

The solution I found for the Yahoo page is to switch forms mode from
automatic to manual. Actually, I'd already done that for IE11 and forgotten
to do it in Chrome. However, it makes a much bigger difference in Chrome.

Hello Adrian,
I haven't any experience using Yahoo Finance, but I just visited the site on

a friends computer who is running Windows 7, Google Chrome 64 bit which she
installed yesterday, and Jaws 14. On the website I entered amzn, and it
pulled up Amazon and then we entered MS and it pulled up Morgan Stanley. I
assume this is what it is supposed to do, so Google Chrome appears to be
working on the system I described above. I can't recall which Windows and
Jaws versions you are running.
Best,

I'm using the same version. When Chrome and JAWS work together, moving
from page to page is much, much faster than with either IE or FF, but I
keep encountering websites where data can't be entered. The latest is
Yahoo Finance, where stock symbols can't be entered.

Two tips:

I kept getting a warning about Chrome not being the default. I finally
heard that JAWS was telling me to press alt-shift-a. When I did so, I
tabbed through to "Don't ask again" and checked it.

Control-d works to create a favorite, but initially I couldn't edit the
name that popped up. However, you can tab to an edit field and create your
own name.

Chrome and bookmarks/favorites

Adrian Spratt

Hi.

I can't get favorites, which Chrome calls bookmarks, to work as quickly as they do in IE. Here's what I've figured out so far. I hope the gaps can be filled in.

You get to bookmarks by pressing alt for the menu, then arrowing down. Press enter on bookmarks. Here, I'm told that the shortcut control-shift-b brings up bookmarks, but that shortcut isn't working on my system when I'm outside this menu. Each time I have to go through the menu.

In IE, I press alt-a to bring up my favorites list, and first-letter navigation works. I can't find anything this simple using Chrome.

One item in the bookmarks submenu allows you to import favorites settings. I clicked on this, tabbed through the options, and was told at the end that I was successful. However, nothing seems to have been imported.

Any ideas?

accessible. Also, every JAWS key command works in Chrome just like
in IE. You can just press alt + D for the address bar for example. I
will continue to play around with Google Chrome a little more, and I
will be ready to do an Audio tutorial for you guys. You will not
believe just how much better Google Chrome is over any other browser.
You will hear it with your own ears when I send you the tutorial
probably by Friday. I know some of you will use Chrome as your
default browser. God bless and have a great night. Talk to all of you
soon.

Re: Google Chrome is totally accessible

Adrian Spratt

I solved my Yahoo problem in the way I just posted. I'll keep control-enter in mind as I continue to explore Chrome.

Try control plus enter for some of those.
My latest surprise.

I'm using the same version. When Chrome and JAWS work together, moving from page to page is much, much faster than with either IE or FF, but I keep encountering websites where data can't be entered. The latest is Yahoo Finance, where stock symbols can't be entered.

Two tips:

I kept getting a warning about Chrome not being the default. I finally heard that JAWS was telling me to press alt-shift-a. When I did so, I tabbed through to "Don't ask again" and checked it.

Control-d works to create a favorite, but initially I couldn't edit the name that popped up. However, you can tab to an edit field and create your own name.

Hi Ted:
Chrome Version 46.0.2490.80
is the version I'm using.
It seems to be working better than ever before.
I don't know how to get feeds,
and I think webvisum is not available.

Back when I had XP and JAWS 13, Chrome did not work.

Bye for now,

i just started using it with windows 7 64bit and jaws 17. also works with jaws 16. only have one problem so far. when i go to amc.com there is a sign in link that doesn't show up as a link in krome. it does in firefox and IE. other than that it seams to be running pretty smoothly.

Hi all.
I have been experimenting with Google Chrome Browser, and I have
found that it is very accessible and easy to use. More than that, I
can open the same web site in half the time as with IE or Firefox. It
never crashes, and it is more stable than any other browser. It is
the best browser when it comes to streaming videos and other media by
far. The video never pauses for example. In IE, the same video pauses
a few times for a few seconds. Also, Google Chrome is the easiest
browser to use. Yes, I am not kidding. Simply press enter on the
browser, and the home page opens. I have mine set to Google of
