Re: Outlook 2013.

Carolyn Arnold <4carolyna@...>

Thank you. I have Outlook 2013. For some reason, since the system scan
done by Windows Defender yesterday, I can't get my incoming mail in my
Inbox to come in ascending order. Ascending is checked. I've had the
computer off, I've restarted it. I've cleared the Inbox then done
Alt-V-V-S, still Ascending is shown as checked. I'm perplexed.

I don't know anything about Skype, so if that is possible, I would need
your steering there.

Thank you for your attention to this.

If I don't get it resolved by next week, I'll call Microsoft Disability.

Bye for now,

Carolyn

Hey Carolyn you seem to have quite a few answered questions. I'll be glad to
help you. Let me know if you have skype and I'll get online with you and help
you resolve these problems. To
To turn forms mode from manual to automatic or vice versa do this:
1. Press insert plus the number six on your numbers row. Actually I say press
insert, let me rephrase. Press the Jaws key plus the number 6.
2. Type the word "form" when you are presented with the edit box. Now tab over
one time and you should be in the forms mode options. Press the spacebar to
toggle between automatic and manual and there may be another option. In fact
there is: it's called semiauto.
3. If you want to change this setting and have it effect all programs you will
need to press the control key the shift key and the letter D immediately after
pressing Jaws key plus the number six that we started with.

Tony, I really suggest you try it, because explorer is not a good
option anymore. A brouzer nees to be updated allot, and that is not
happening for a while now. MS cannot expect its exceptable to update
the brouzer each time they do anew windows. That is where chrome is
firstly better, the more it update the more it can protect you. And
the way it work technically and otherwise just come down to a safer
online experience. And flash is build in wich is also safer and it
plays vidios very well as david said.

Well, its not that jaws have tuns of features that supernova don't,
they can mostly do the same things feature wise, its just that jaws
support the most and give the most access by means of many scripts.
While supernova make use of scritps, and also map files, the veriety
is not as huge and don't fall in the catogories of software I normally
would use. But that being said, that doesn't mean that it won't work
with many software you already have, but that you have to test. Chrome
currently will be a problem. But many things does work, and since many
here use office for example, that will work seemlessly. Get a demo and

Mike,

Understood. The temptation to roll over and stick my four legs up in the
air

is sometimes strong, but over time I've found that persistence and volume
can prevail. By persistence, I mean one person demanding a fix. By volume,
I

mean the more of us who complain, the more pressure FS will be under to fix
it and ensure this kind of fiasco doesn't recur.

I do recall many versions ago that the merge utility cause havoc from one
version to the next. The people at FS remember that event. I also know that
persistence doesn't always work. I've had my own frustrations with FS over
time.

But the merge utility was basic to the transition from version to version,
and most of us JAWS users depended on it. It's bad enough that we must pay
for a SMA every two versions, which FS has ensured means every two years,
but now to go through such inconvenience as well?

As for the lister who proposed a petition, let him produce one. Otherwise,
it's simple enough to write to FS and let our voices be heard. Again, the
address is

support@freedomscientific.com

I admit I don't like being a rabble-rouser, but this really is annoying.

Hi Adrian,

I agree with you &, I don't find it acceptable either but, what else are we
supposed to do? We can bitch until the cows come home & it won't change
the
fact, that Freedom Scientific already knows, they are not keeping up with
their own products. I've complained about various screw-ups for many
years,
& when you send them a complaint you only get back an automated kiss ass
email stating how they're working to resolve the problem. It seems to me
that they have a need to stay on some kind of schedule, & that schedule is
to put out a new version of Jaws around November of each year whether it's
ready for consumer consumption or not!
Take care.

Sorry, Mike, but I don't find this statement acceptable. Ease of transition
from version to version is important. FS should have anticipated this
concern and figured out a solution before it became our problem. As I
believe it was Aidan who pointed out, it isn't as if the new features in
JAWS 17 are exactly compelling. There are potential problems involved in
skipping a version, so I still plan to install JAWS 17 one of these days.

Hi All,

There's no need to craft a petition or anything else. Below tells about
the
Merge Utility & why it's missing in Jaws 17, for now anyways. This comes
from What's new in Jaws 17.

Merge Utility No Longer Available

Major changes have been made to improve the JAWS localization process. This
included reorganizing many of the JAWS settings files. Due to these
changes,
the Merge utility is no longer installed with JAWS 17 as settings from
prior
versions cannot be merged. We are planning a solution for the future which
will replace this utility and provide an even greater benefit for our
customers.

Take care.

I don't know how appropriate or beneficial this could be, but if someone on
the list would be willing to craft a petition regarding this issue, we
might
be able to get enough signitures to make an impact.

Sometimes, I just scratch my head at these kinds of decisions.

I certainly will sign any such petition, if it is created.

I'm looking to upgrade to Jaws 17, possibly during the college teaching
semester break, but that won't be for about 8 weeks for me at this point,
and I sure would like to have the use of the merge utilities feature again.
I know there have been issues with it at times, but the convenience and
ease
of using it far outweighs any problems, in my opinion.

In windows 7, Favorites can be accessed by pressing Windows key, then tab, then enter, then 'f' or down arrowing to the favorites

Subject: Chrome and bookmarks/favorites

Hi.

I can't get favorites, which Chrome calls bookmarks, to work as quickly
as they do in IE. Here's what I've figured out so far. I hope the gaps
can be filled in.

You get to bookmarks by pressing alt for the menu, then arrowing down.
Press enter on bookmarks. Here, I'm told that the shortcut
control-shift-b brings up bookmarks, but that shortcut isn't working on
my system when I'm outside this menu. Each time I have to go through
the menu.

In IE, I press alt-a to bring up my favorites list, and first-letter
navigation works. I can't find anything this simple using Chrome.

One item in the bookmarks submenu allows you to import favorites
settings. I clicked on this, tabbed through the options, and was told
at the end that I was successful. However, nothing seems to have been
imported.

Any ideas?

Having all settings, scripts, and all changes we make to JAWS stored in the

never lose our settings and our own scripts ever again. I agree. Bring it

Hello everyone,

For some having JAWS store your user settings in the cloud is big.
I have made this suggestion to FS for some time and would like to see it
become a reality. Your authorization code would be stored with your user
settings allowing JAWS to retrieve information such as saved settings
whenever you upgrade to a new version or install and authorize it on
another device. Bring it on FS!

Tom, the reason why I said I'm considering moving to supernova, is much
more than the utility issue. This thing just motivating me more.
Its also for the fact that upgrades will work me out cheaper as dolphin

Mike,

Understood. The temptation to roll over and stick my four legs up in the air

is sometimes strong, but over time I've found that persistence and volume
can prevail. By persistence, I mean one person demanding a fix. By volume, I

mean the more of us who complain, the more pressure FS will be under to fix
it and ensure this kind of fiasco doesn't recur.

I agree with you &, I don't find it acceptable either but, what else are we
supposed to do? We can bitch until the cows come home & it won't change the
fact, that Freedom Scientific already knows, they are not keeping up with
their own products. I've complained about various screw-ups for many years,
& when you send them a complaint you only get back an automated kiss ass
email stating how they're working to resolve the problem. It seems to me
that they have a need to stay on some kind of schedule, & that schedule is
to put out a new version of Jaws around November of each year whether it's
ready for consumer consumption or not!

Sorry, Mike, but I don't find this statement acceptable. Ease of transition
from version to version is important. FS should have anticipated this
concern and figured out a solution before it became our problem. As I
believe it was Aidan who pointed out, it isn't as if the new features in

Re: merge utility

Adrian Spratt

Jim, when you have a question like this, go into key identifier mode by pressing JAWS key+1 (above the letters). JAWS key refers to the insert key on the PC keyboard and caps lock on a laptop keyboard. Once in this mode, press the key combo, and JAWS will read its function. Get out of this mode by pressing JAWS key+1 again.

Well Tom, it is clearly a problem for some of us! Many people, like
yourself, are far more technically inclined than others. The Merge Utility
means that I, and others, can upgrade JAWS versions without having to
"re-set", for example, all of the changes that I would make to my JAWS
"Keyboard Manager". Believe me. I wish that my technical abilities were on
a par with people who have had a lot more experience with issues like this
than I have had; but, it is what it is!

I don't see where the lack of a merge utility is such a show stopper. It is

not a question of not providing a merge utility but you simply can not merge

the old scripts with the new scripts because of the changes in even low
level function in order to work most efficiently under win 10. You just can

not merge. Now 17 to 18 will most likely be able to be merged because the
changes won't need to be so dramatic and the functions that work under one
will work under the other.
Is redoing your settings so tramatic?

a friends computer who is running Windows 7, Google Chrome 64 bit which
she installed yesterday, and Jaws 14. On the website I entered amzn, and
it pulled up Amazon and then we entered MS and it pulled up Morgan

appears to be working on the system I described above. I can't recall
which Windows and Jaws versions you are running.

I'm using the same version. When Chrome and JAWS work together, moving
from page to page is much, much faster than with either IE or FF, but I
keep encountering websites where data can't be entered. The latest is
Yahoo Finance, where stock symbols can't be entered.

Two tips:

I kept getting a warning about Chrome not being the default. I finally
heard that JAWS was telling me to press alt-shift-a. When I did so, I
tabbed through to "Don't ask again" and checked it.

Control-d works to create a favorite, but initially I couldn't edit the
name that popped up. However, you can tab to an edit field and create
your

own name.

Tom, the reason why I said I'm considering moving to supernova, is
much more than the utility issue. This thing just motivating me more.
Its also for the fact that upgrades will work me out cheaper as
dolphin don't have such a busy skedual. Yes they don't have
everything, that's why I won't do it yet, but there is more hope in
dolphin doing something than fs listening to us.

I totally agree. Thanks for those who support me. I think for most of us its
about time to move and talk with our wallits. I'm strongly considering to
move over to supernova. They don't upgrade every year for the sake of
meeting a stupid skedual, and therefore its cheaper to upgrade whenever it
arrives. Only thing is they stil need to support some apps better before I
can really make that switch.

Hi All,

There's no need to craft a petition or anything else. Below tells
about the Merge Utility & why it's missing in Jaws 17, for now
anyways. This comes from What's new in Jaws 17.

Merge Utility No Longer Available

Major changes have been made to improve the JAWS localization process.
This
included reorganizing many of the JAWS settings files. Due to these
changes, the Merge utility is no longer installed with JAWS 17 as
settings from prior versions cannot be merged. We are planning a
solution for the future which will replace this utility and provide an
even greater benefit for our customers.

Take care.

I don't know how appropriate or beneficial this could be, but if
someone on the list would be willing to craft a petition regarding
this issue, we might be able to get enough signitures to make an
impact.

Sometimes, I just scratch my head at these kinds of decisions.

I certainly will sign any such petition, if it is created.

I'm looking to upgrade to Jaws 17, possibly during the college
teaching semester break, but that won't be for about 8 weeks for me at
this point, and I sure would like to have the use of the merge
utilities feature again.
I know there have been issues with it at times, but the convenience
and ease of using it far outweighs any problems, in my opinion.

be fixed. I hope others will do the same so they realize how important
this is.
Can you imagine a popular commercial application forcing users to

I agree completely. Enough said.

Hello.

I'm very upset for fs removing the murg utility option in jaws 17.
They have the excuse that older version settings can know longer
being important in 17. I don't know if I must laugh. If they new
that it would happen, why did they not make a priority to implement
a replacement tool wich could be in 17?
Now you have to manually change everything? Is it possible perhaps
to use the settings packager to acomplish that?
I find it so tragic that they spend the hole year on smart
navigation, wich is not even such a remarkable feature, really this
was going to be more bennifishil to more people and now that its
not ready it will affect everyone negatively.

Re: Merge Utility - GONE!!!!!!

HAMILTON

To be honest, I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in storing ANYTHING in "any
cloud". The security risks outway any other factor in my decision! So, if
JAWS 17 will "require" the use of "cloud storage", I will NOT use JAWS 17!

Jim I agree. Really, unless if they will at least allow the cloud of
your choice? Then I can safe to dropbox or google drive, that will
make more sense, but even then, really their priorities stinks.

I heard that yes, the only thing is that it should've been ready by now. But
sound intresting.

Hi guys,
When I was listening to the latest webinar about JAWS 17, Dan Clark
said something about that that they were replacing the merge utility
with something that would allow people to save all settings in the
cloud. So, I am not sure what they are thinking about, but it will be
totally different than the merge utility.

Jim. Know one noes when they will bring an replacement tool back. I
suspect probibly in version 18. Because they only say they working on
something more improved for customers. I don't know what that means,
but they of the rode.

There seems to be a storm brewing regarding the fact that the Merge
Utility is not part of JAWS V: 17. Why was this problem not worked
out before JAWS
17 was released? Clearly, FS knew that previous version settings
could not be "merged" as in previous versions; so, FS should have
fixed it before it became a problem!

Can you tell us in which very early-on JAWS Version: 17 update will
this fix appear? At this time, I am planning to wait until the "fix
is in" before upgrading to Version: 17. Of course, this will mean
waiting to install Windows 10; but, it cannot be helped!
