Hello all:

Is there any way that you can put a signature in a PDF Form using Adobe Reader DC and JAWS?

I am trying to fill out a W9 Tax Form, and it is asking me for a signature. How do you insert a signature into the PDF Form? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Ann,
It really depends what type of document it is, .doc, .pdf or .txt etc,
and who you are protecting it from.
Making it a read only file is the simplest, and can be accomplished by
opening the file properties and checking the read only
checkbox on the general tab.
As for the password protection methods, there are various ways of doing this
depending on the software used to create the file or by third-party
software.
I am not well-versed in Microsoft Word, so I can't give any details on how
to password protect a Word Doc, but I am sure someone else can.
Hopefully others on-list can give more options.

HTH,
Rick

What is the best method for making a document unchangeable? Make it
readonly? Password protect it? How do I do either/both methods?

Thx

moderated Re: Protecting a document

There is no really good method to do this.  Most can be worked around if the document is still in DOCX format.

It's not perfect, but I find it far more effective to save as PDF and send that out.  There are some who have PDF editors and know how to use them, but far fewer than the number who have MS-Office and know the tricks to get around protection.

If you really insist on sticking with DOCX you can use ALT+L,PE (Layout Ribbon, Restrict Editing), then navigate to the checkbox under Editing Restrictions and check it.  After it's checked, a dropdown box of options becomes accessible, the default is No Changes (Read Only), which is what you want.  Then navigate to the button, "Yes, start enforcing protection," and activate it.  At this point a dialog box comes up allowing you to choose password protection as the way to be able to unset editing restrictions or User Authentication.  Most use Password Protection, which makes you do the usual entering of the password you want in two boxes.  Then hit the OK key and the document can no longer be edited, even by you, unless you go back and turn off editing restrictions.

moderated having trouble with outlook 2019 and jaws 2020.

Jim Rawls

Hi all,

I have outlook to check spelling before a message is sent.

If I hit F and 7 on the top row of keys, it says not in  dictionary, and then it says the misspelled word and says no suggested items. But if I tab one time, it shows a list of suggestions.

Secondly, if I read through a message that I am going to send, I keep hearing, miss spelled, and the word that is miss spelled. How do I get rid of that in the text/?

Thanks for your help. Jim

Is this not working for you?

try the following to maybe find what's needed:

press windows+i, and press enter after typing dark mode in the search field. there should be two choices after pressing tab: Turn on dark mode for apps or Turn on dark mode systemwide.

I believe this is because with Windows there is now a dark mode that is
being used even for folks with no vision issues. So in Office
applications when using standard colors the app will report default on
default. ,

windows+i for settings, and type dark mode and press enter in the search field.

well, the speed of your connection to the Internet is certainly one factor, but you said that you noticed that the sluggishness started after upgrading to JAWS 2020. the problem might not be related to your connection to the Internet at all.

did you notice the sluggishness before upgrading JAWS to 2020?

That feature is on by default, and the dialog should be presented unless you've
turned it off.

See the Mozilla support page:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/password-manager-remember-delete-edit-logins#w_managing-usernames-and-passwords
and head for the section on Disabling the Password Manager, where, of course,
you can do the reverse to re-enable it.
