Hi Sieghard,

He is taking a computer class where part of the curriculum apparently involves learning drag and drop. I agree copy or cut and paste is the way to go.  I shared this with A person with DSS.  The point being can he take a loose file and put it in a folder as an example?  A person with vision has several ways to try to accomplish this, but a screen reader less ways, but still effective.  My concern is the cut and paste way will be counted incorrect since. He didn’t drag and drop.

Thanks again for your help and thoughtful response.

Jim

If drag and drop is the only way to accomplish something as in the example I gave about rearranging the order of icons on the taskbar then it’s OK to use it and it works very well for that, but if there is a keyboard shortcut which is easy and fast then why not use it.

This makes all windows visible so drag and drop should work but as this is win 10 who knows.

Sieghard and All,
The security issue is a minor issue, as I think the majority of us know enough to not open attachments that we are not sure of the origin, and the slightly outdated security should still catch 99% of what might be a threat.
On the iMap, yes, it does do iMap as well as POP.
On the Windows 10, I don't know about that, and I recommended it since the request was for something to use in windows 8.

Glen may like this, but after taking a look at this website and reading the Windows 10 warning I would definitely not recommend using this.
First of all, nobody knows if this has been updated to address all the many security issues which have come up since the Windows XP days. There just are things which are left behind and OE is one of them.
Secondly, does this even support IMAP or Exchange/Outlook.com accounts or would you be forced to use POP3? For anybody with 2 devices that would be pretty bad.
Lastly, I certainly don't want to reinstall this twice a year after every major Windows 10 update which is what the warning is about, this is from the website:

Information about using OE with Windows 10 or updating to Windows 10
Windows 10 users must know that automatic updates on Windows 10 removes Outlook Express.
Every time a Windows 10 pc performs Major Updates, Outlook Express will be removed and need to be re-installed.
More info about software being removed on Win 10 updates:
http://betanews.com/2015/11/24/windows-1...ermission/
Emails are not being removed as far as we know until today, but Outlook Express must be reinstalled and emails must be re-imported.
We have created the automatic restore tool that restores Outlook Express (and emails, accounts e.t.c) back.
For users that have lost OE from win 10 updates, this tool (restores OE back) can be used:
https://runasxp.com/Thread-Windows-10-up...store-tool
The tool will restore OE back but users must backup their emails before windows 10 major upgrade, for piece of mind.

You can probably fix this not copying on certain websites by going into Quick Settings when the website is open and type “copy” into the search field, then tab once and you get this:

Select and copy full content using on-screen highlight

Press the spacebar and change it to:

Select and copy from virtual cursor

I sometimes experience this problem as well with JAWS 2020 (latest  release), and the workaround is the same as yours: unloading and reloading JAWS. However, I’ve found on one website, the Guardian newspaper and now the Washington Post, that despite selecting text, I can’t get the copying function to work at all in Chrome, my default browser. My workaround there has been to reopen the website in IE, where control-c works. Today, however, I experimented by closing JAWS 2020 and opening JAWS 2018. This time, I could copy material from the Guardian website. This is a JAWS 2020, and possibly JAWS 2019, problem.

So there are two problems that may or may not be related. Sometimes JAWS gets tired and won’t copy text until you unload and reload it. Separately, perhaps, JAWS won’t allow copying on at least some webpages on two websites.

win 8.1? It is really a personal preference. I use TB and have no issues with it at all. I see people dumping windows mail for TB and others going to outlook. I am not sure exactly what Windows 8.1 had as a built-in app, in Windows 10 is an app called Mail, but unless you need a free solution I guess Outlook is the obvious choice as among paid programs it's probably still the most used.
Accessibility is good, but just as with everything it has its issues.

Exactly, if I can move a "loose file" as you describe it into a subfolder in about 5 seconds by pressing Control + X, going to the subfolder and pressing Control + V then I'd tell any sighted instructor who told me he wanted me to use drag and drop to throw away his mouse the next time he uses the computer. To try and teach a blind person to do things the way sighted people do stuff is a joke just as it would be a joke.

I still wonder why a blind person would want to use such a visual way to move files from one folder to another when cut and paste works perfectly well and allows you to do 1 file or many all at once.

If drag and drop is the only way to accomplish something as in the example I gave about rearranging the order of icons on the taskbar then it’s OK to use it and it works very well for that, but if there is a keyboard shortcut which is easy and fast then why not use it.

I hate the way MS keeps messing up keyboard commands! I cant get to the app bar with the old method and cant seem to find a way to do it. but if you can get focus on the app bar then right click you can arrange windows in several ways. This makes all windows visible so drag and drop should work but as this is win 10 who knows.

Hi.

Trying to learn how to do a drag and drop with JAWS.  I’ve opened a folder with some files in it.  Pressed Control + Insert + Numpad slash and I get that drag and drop and to move the PC cursor, JAWS cursor or touch pad to the location where I want to drop.  When I move to another folder, and press the same keystrokes I get an error JAWS saying the drag and drop isn’t found and it might be covered by another window then the drag and drop action is canceled.

Any ideas what I am doing incorrectly?

Thanks

Was wondering if anyone has knowledge if Spark Instant Messenger is compatible with JAWS 2018?

Thanks

Couldn’t you call Microsoft Accessibility when that login screen is up and get them to connect and take a look?

I booted up my computer last night. I think some of you are right that there is some glitch.  I didn’t get the message, but Outlook wasn’t downloadiong my new messages as it should, and the Outlook icon on the system tray said it couldn’t connect to the network work something like that, even though my internet connection was fine. On the Send & Receive ribbon, I found a button for entering my password and updating the account, which brought up that annoying login screen. Entering my password, did get me in, but I couldn’t find any Remember Me checkbox on the dialog, despite hitting x for checkbox and tabbing around.  I’ll ask my sighted husband to look next time I get it.  I wonder if I should go change my password and see if that clears things up.  All my other email accounts in Outlook are logging in fine; it’s the primary account that is also my Microsoft Store login that prompts me for login.

And if it goes away and doesn't immediately come back, it is indeed a glitch.  There are all sorts of things that can screw up an attempt at logging in to a remote server.

Some servers are more inclined to "burp" than others.

Using Google I didn't really get an answer to your question. Sorry I can't help more.

I'm looking for a decent programming setup to play around with using Jaws. I want something simple that can do basic things like loops, random numbers, and taking keyboard input and producing screen output. A good manual with a list of functions would be really helpful. I've used several different languages in the past, and don't remember any of them all that well, so I'm not particular. I've messed a little with python most recently and didn't care for its requirement of indents for if and loop and the like, so anything but Python, please. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
