MS Edge and Jaws?

Lauren Snyder

Can someone tell me if this program, which seems to be new with Windows 10 is Jaws accessible? For instance, I entered on a file I wanted to open and the Edge launched, but I can’t figure out how to actually access the file I want.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Lauren

Hi Lauren,

After an hour of silence, turn on Narrator. You just have to enter on a yes button a couple of times and wait 20 more minutes. At that time, JAWS will talk. When JAWS starts talking, you know that win10 is all done installing. You then need to uninstall and reinstall JAWS 17 on your computer. Now, you should be set. I will right up a small guide for you to show you what settings changes you will want to make to make win10 work the best with JAWS. Let me know if you have win10 on your computer. This is how you know if you have win10 on your computer. Press windows key + R to bring up the run dialog. Just type in winver. It is all lower case. A window will come up telling you what version of windows is on your computer. That is the best way to check. If you do have win10, then I can help you get the most out of win10. If you do not, then we will figure out what is going on. Have a great one, Lauren.

How do I know when windows 10 is done installing? Jaws  came back on. The sounds I have to open and close programs keeps going on and on so I am uncertain. Is there way I can check their windows 10 is the operating system on my PC? Was I correct to choose express settings? Now do I need to uninstall Jaws  17 and reinstall it?

Hi Lauren,

You can upgrade without sighted help. You should install JAWS 17 first. Then, download the Tool from FS that will allow you to get rid of all previous JAWS versions from your computer along with shared components. The only version you should have on your computer is Version 17. If you want, You could also have version 16.0.1214. That will also work on Windows 10. Also, you will want to download the media creation tool from the MS page and save it to your computer. Make sure that you don’t run the media creation tool until you run that FS tool to get rid all versions of JAWS off your computer except 16.0.1214 and JAWS 17. Now, you can run the media creation tool to install win 10. Just press enter on the tool and press enter on upgrade this pc. JAWS will still be working. Once you get through some screens, JAWS will go quiet and this is when you wait an hour or more to let win10 download to your computer. It is around 3 gigs. After an hour, just turn on Narrator by pressing windows key + enter. You will be able to finish the install with Narrator. Now, since you have Windows 8, it should install fine after the first time. It is upgrading from Windows 7 that causes the trouble and it takes a few times. I upgraded from Windows 8.1, and it took me one time of running the media creation tool, and win10 installed great the first time. This is really important. When win10 installs and JAWS comes back talking, it is good to uninstall JAWS and reinstall JAWS. If you do this, even upgrading from win 8 or 8.1, you will get much better results from JAWS from then on out. Please email me if you have any questions. It is easy, and once win10 is on your computer, I can really help you get everything adjusted so you have the best experience using win10. You will love it and never want to go back. I will be thinking about you as you upgrade. Email me as soon as you have any questions. Take care, David Moore.

MS has a new browser named Edge. Also, there are Firefox and Chrome. When you switch browsers, you'll go into your chosen browser and set it as your default. Then you'll be able to click on the links you want.

You were placed on this list because you were on the old JAWS list, which I
moved to this service two days ago. You were very likely nomail, so wouldn't
have seen my warnings re: the move. If you're having issues unsubscribing,
contact me privately and I'll see what can be done.

I used Final Draft something like eleven or twelve years ago and,
although I got my script formatted eventually, it was very difficult.
I'd suggest figuring out what formatting you need then creating a
template in Word to do what you want.

I would also be interested in an ongoing discussion of this topic. Not
sure it's appropriate for this list, so feel free to contact me
privately. My email is, kimbersinbox1963@gmail.com

Re: Jaws and Chrome

David Moore

Hi Lauren,
FS does not offer commands for Chrome, however, you can find all of the key strokes in Chrome itself. Here is how you get to the key commands. First, press the alt key to open the Chrome menu. Up arrow twice to help and about and press enter. A page will come up with many links you can enter on for help. Arrow down through these help links until you hear key commands and press enter on that link. Now, a list of key commands will come up. They are divided up into tables on the page, and you will be able to learn every key command you will ever need. Let me know how this goes. Have a great one.

Re: Windows 10 question with Jaws 17

Hi Lauren,
Cortana is a voice assistant like Siri is on the iPhone. If you press windows key + c you will hear a sound and you can ask her a question or tell her to do something with the computer. She can answer all kinds of questions. If you ask her what the weather forecast is for anywhere in the world, she will tell you. If you ask her how many files you have on your computer, she will tell you. I can press windows + C and tell Cortana to open iTunes and play the song Ride like the wind and it starts playing. There is so much I can help you with to get win10 customized to your liking and how to navigate all around win10. Take care and let me know how it goes.

I think I read from David that I need to uninstall Jaws 17 and reinstall it, is that right?

Thank you.

To John Martyn and others: I, too, have noticed that Firefox allows for more to be read on a website.

There is a site, though, that I wonder if anyone has had experience with and that is the Classic Flix site:

www.classicflix.com

It is another video rental service that deals exclusively in older films, while Netflix hardly has a "classic" in its lists anymore, but the Classic Flix site is totally dysfunctional to the blind. Does anyone else in this community belong to it?

Kevin

Re: Netflix blind command over player controls

Kevin Wollenweber <dancingweed@...>

I'm happy that Netflix has made so much accessible regarding some of their films, including audio description, but they've changed so much on their site regarding those of us who still rent physical media, because let's face it, not everything will be available as streaming. It is a shame that all the major studios will not allow streaming, and that is why I still rent physical disks.

Does anyone know how you get to the DVD queue and, from there, to find out what the titles are that one still has rented out? As a totally blind person, I sometimes forget the titles of films that I rent and would like to see my list, but the links to the DVD queue don't seem to immediately work in JAWS 17.

Kevin
