Re: Registry Cleaner

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

No, this was several months back. Given my earlier experience, the download hassle, and the negative reports that came over the list, I think that's a no-go. I can't even remember the name of the list member touting this other program, but he made it sound really good. I kept the note around for a while, but must have eventually discarded it. I guess I've taken up enough time and space for one day.

Okay, I could always do a Web search, I just wondered if it was worth the
effort. As I just wrote, the proper name is Registry Fix. Frankly, a
properly designed product should allow you to specify a particular program
for which to search. I know what I want rid of. Incidentally, you're on
that other list; do you remember the proper name of the program about which
I was asking several days ago, the one that, I think, began with a W?

Ted,

If it's old, I'd advise against, unless it has a way to be updated. The
database used for detection is usually updated to keep up, and being behind
might clean out things that should not be.

Tabbing through a bunch of unlabeled buttons after the address bar. This just started. I believe they were a list of different search engines before.

Navigating the main interface toolbars tabs search bar and such seems more difficult lately.

After adding a favorite, Need to shift tab to get to the document but now I end up on unlabeled buttons.
I can't find any options to change the toolbar arrangement or behavior.

Guess I need to press f6 to get past those buttons and back to the document now. But a single f6 takes me to a place where Jaws speaks nothing and I need to press f6 twice.
Also if one is at the top of the document and press shift-tab once and ends up in the address search bar. Need to pass all those buttons again.

Evening all.
I am really considering upgrading to W10 fromW7.
Now the question...
As my system now sits, with some extra programs,Anti Virus things, Favorite
Web sites, documents, Winamp and MP3 files, Scanner program, Printer files,
and so on for all the existing things on this computer.
What would I be getting, just a blank system with all the things that MS
would be installing with it, and not having any of my existing things, for
lack of a better word, and have to start all over again?
Hope you understand what I am asking, because some of you might have asked
this same question to yourselves.

Thanks for any responses.
If you would want to answer this query to me personally so as to not clutter
the list, please do so.

I am really interested in doing this, because there sure has not been a
great amount of negative things said.
Again, sorry to carry on.

Yes, there is practically no material available for developing apps
in Access (or any VBA based).

I'm using common windows controls and appears the properties need to
be modified for JAWS. Some examples of issues Im having are:
- a password Textbox field, JAWS echoes the characters typed in and
not asterisk
- radio buttons (in an Option Group) when checked, JAWS reads as
Not-checked (and vice-versa)
- cannot Tab to the heading of a Tab control

Anyone else gone down this road?

Thanks

Re: Registry Cleaner

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

It cleans out junk--bits and pieces from old programs. Windows programs uninstall routines usually rely on the uninstall protocol in Control Panel, which is not thorough. So your registry gets gunked up with references to programs that are no longer physically there. Even a JAWS clean uninstall, which I suspect is more thorough than most, will leave things like a talking installer, FS Reader, Etc.

JAWS as far as I know has never really supported Access. The way you can tell is that Henter Joyce which is the company that developed JAWS as well as Freedom Scientific, which is a merge of three companies, have never released any training material for Access nor conducted a webinar.

Yes, there is practically no material available for developing apps in
Access (or any VBA based).

Thanks

Re: W10 upgrad question I have not heard answeredw

Peter Tesar

Hello,

When I did the upgrade to Windows 10, the default radio button was checked:
keep existing files and programs.

That is exactly what happened.

You will need Internet Explorer or Firefox, for the web browsing, since the new MS Edge is not JAWS compatible.

Evening all.
I am really considering upgrading to W10 fromW7.
Now the question...
As my system now sits, with some extra programs,Anti Virus things, Favorite Web sites, documents, Winamp and MP3 files, Scanner program, Printer files, and so on for all the existing things on this computer.
What would I be getting, just a blank system with all the things that MS would be installing with it, and not having any of my existing things, for lack of a better word, and have to start all over again?
Hope you understand what I am asking, because some of you might have asked this same question to yourselves.

Thanks for any responses.
If you would want to answer this query to me personally so as to not clutter the list, please do so.

I am really interested in doing this, because there sure has not been a great amount of negative things said.
Again, sorry to carry on.

Re: Registry Cleaner

Dave Durber

Mike:

I think you will find that, Ninite.com does not offer downloader's for software, such as Adobe Flash Player and CCleaner because, such companies, in promoting third-party software, such as additional ToolBars and web browsers, they more than likely, get commissions from the third-party companies for including such software and, of course, by Ninite.com excluding the additional software, such companies, do not get any commissions. Which is probably why Ninite.com, was asked not to offer their downloader's for Adobe Flash Player and CCleaner and other software as well.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Hi Ted,

Are you talking about this website?

http://www.ninite.com

They don't offer CCleaner anymore for whatever reason.
Take care.

, Dave. I thought I had an old copy of that, but must have deleted it. It
should be fairly easy to find with a search. I'm still trying to get rid of
the remnants of AVG, that system restore fixed JAWS, but really did a number
on me. I found some more physical remains last night, and deleted them, but
I don't touch the registry by hand. Norton once had a good cleaner, but the
last time I used it it went postal! I haven't trusted the category since.

Some time ago we were discussing what was supposed to be a dandy, safe
registry cleaner. I thought I kept the thread (you should see my mailbox),
but can't find it now. I think it began with the letter W.

Re: Registry Cleaner

Dave Durber

Gerald:

I have noticed thatt, in some versions of the CCleaner program downloader, there is a check box to, not only, uncheck the check box for the Google ToolBar but, also for unchecking the check box for Google Chrome.

The shame is, that it is not available in all versions of the CCleaner downloader.

Someone has suggested Uncheckie, I have not heard of Uncheckie, so, off to download and try it.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Not your fault. The check box to deselect Chrome is not visible to JAWS in the CCleaner downloader interface.

I was able to uninstall those culprits through control panel in
WIN7. As usual, I didn't pay enough atttention to the check boxes!
