The reason alt+2 works is that the New Folder command is apparently on the tool bar by default, which fact I had forgotten.

Hi Shirley,

To make a folder in Windows 10, you have to use the applications key.

First, enter the folder you want to place your
new folder in, and press the applications key or
shift+f10. Once the menu opens arrow down
several times until you reach the new sub menu.
pres right arrow, and scroll to new folder and
press enter. You can then type the name you want and press enter.

I hope that makes sense.

Hello! There is an easier way to create a new folder wherever you are in Windows 10. simply press the key command shift + Ctrl + n, and type in the name for the folder, and you are done! Take care David Moore

Or you can type a PowerShell command to do the same thing. I’m reasonably sure that mkdir works in PowerShell.

That window is confusing, we have to start at the top of addresses in order to see what the checkbox is referring to.  as on some pages it is after, and some the checkbox is before, that is, the checkbox that is for "make this the default".
There is such a checkbox for the payment method too.  I think it is before the address and payment method on Amazon's page.
One can get to the checkboxes on a page with the letter X.
So as it happens, I have had it change on me on Amazon's checkout pages, I always press X a few times to see which item is actually checked as to not have my supplements sent to my Mom. ☺

Shirley,

I think I recall one of my issues with the Amazon checkout process around Christmastime was that it wanted me to acknowledge my default shipping address and default payment method, even though I didn’t change it.  I recall thinking this wasn’t  obvious in the way I was reading the screen with JAWS 2019.  Maybe that is an issue for you.  I typically use my iPhone app, so I cannot fully recall my last checkout by website nor which browser I was using.

That’s the problem: I don’t find the checkout button. Pressing B gives me nothing. And I get a message telling me there is an error with my order and to check back later. That’s mostly with Firefox. With Internet Explorer, I have some trouble but can generally put it through—but I’m concerned about how much longer we will be able to use IE. I can’t figure out what’s going on and did call the accessibility phone number, but they can’t figure out what’s happening. I just wanted to know if any of you are having the same problem.

Thanks. I just placed a large order, and this time it went through after two tries. Success!

Hi Shirley,

Don’t you have your address and credit card information saved? When I am in my cart I just use “b” for buttons and it takes me directly to the “Proceed to Checkout” button.

Once I activate it, all my information is there, shipping address, the card I have used last time and literally all that is left to do is to again use the button quick nav key until I get to “Place your order”, I press enter and that’s it, a few seconds later I get the thank-you for shopping at Amazon message and seconds later my email dings with the order confirmation email. In my opinion Amazon has made an art of quick online checkout. You may want to look at enabling one-click checkout.

Of course if I want to select a different address or credit card I have to do this before I click “Place my order”.

If you have an Amazon Echo speaker you can also set up voice purchasing. I just tried this, I had 5 items in my cart, but a few of them I just put in there for later so I activated the “Save for Later” button.

After I had only the 2 items in my cart which I wanted now I asked my Echo Dot “What’s in my cart”. It told me I had 2 items and what they were, then I told it to “Place my order”. I was prompted for my voice code which I previously set up in the Alexa app (you can add this or disable it), after I spoke my 4-digit code Alexa said “I placed your order”, of course it used my default shipping address and credit card, it also told me the total and that was it.

Best regards,

Sieghard

You can use the application key that way, or you can press shift+ctrl+n, or you can add New Folder to the Quick Access Tool Bar.

Hi Shirley,

To make a folder in Windows 10, you have to use the applications key.

First, enter the folder you want to place your new folder in, and press the applications key or shift+f10. Once the menu opens arrow down several times until you reach the new sub menu. pres right arrow, and scroll to new folder and press enter. You can then type the name you want and press enter.

I hope that makes sense.

Hi,
That sounds like a canned message that comes up for any software that was written for older operating systems.
If you want to feel comfortable about whether it has any viruses, just arrow to the folder and use the applications key and enter on the option to scan with defender, it won't take but half a minute on such a small folder.
But it has no malware or viruses.
The only question is how it may work on windows 10.
You may have to go into the properties after it's installed to run it in XP mode.

I have used Go to  Meeting for work.  The organizer of the meeting sends you a link, you click on it, and it’ll ask you to join.  If you haven’t already downloaded the “go to meeting” client, you’ll have to do that first. Then you just have to tab around to find your options, and click on the ones you need.  It’s a pretty easy site to navigate.  I am not sure if you also get a meeting ID that you must type in.

Hope this helps.

Hi Shirley,

I would either get a sighted person to take a look with you when you want to place an order or call Microsoft Accessibility, ask them to connect to your computer and take a look. If it says there is an error then obviously something else is going on.

I just went to Amazon.com and it’s basically the same as what I get on Amazon Canada. Here is Jaws speech history after I added an item to my cart:

heading level 1‑ Added to Cart

Cart subtotal (1 item): $49.99

Cart Button

Proceed to checkout (1 item) Button

Main region end

If I activate the “Proceed to checkout (1 item)” button I then see my usual shipping address, my default credit card is selected and pressing b easily gets me to the “place your order” button, I can literally complete an order after I found the item and added it to my cart in 6 or 8 seconds. This is with Edge (or Chrome), in IE it probably takes twice as long even for the pages to load.

Yes, it is strange.
If one of my regular web searches takes me to an Amazon page with a variety of results, then I have the headings, but not from the Amazon search.
They are links and numbered, like #1, #2, etc.
I can search the page for the number sign and press F3 to move down the page though.

Hi Glen,

I am surprised you don’t get headings for the search results. Below is a bunch of Jaws speech history, as an example, I searched for “Logitech MK540”, one of Logitech’s mouse/keyboard combos. After I typed the search term I went to the top of the page, cleared the Jaws history and then pressed first 1 to go to the heading level 1 which gives me information about the search results, then I press 2 repeatedly, each time it goes to the next search result and I did not edit the below at all:

1-16 of 30 results for "Logitech MK540"
Sort by: Featured heading level 1‑ Combo box‑
Logitech MK540 Wireless Keyboard Mouse Combo heading level 2‑ Link‑
Logitech MK545 ADVANCED Wireless Combo, English (920-008695) heading level 2‑ Link‑
Logitech MK270 Wireless Combo, English (920-004536) heading level 2‑ Link‑
Logitech MK360 Wireless Combo, English (920-003376) heading level 2‑ Link‑
Logitech Cordless Desktop MK335 Keyboard and Mouse Combo, 1 Count heading level 2‑ Link‑
Amazon Basics Wireless Computer Keyboard and Mouse Combo - Full Size - US Layout (QWERTY) heading level 2‑ Link

I am using Windows 10, latest public version of Edge and Jaws 2020 latest version, but this has worked like this for me for longer than I can remember or maybe I should say I can’t remember this not being like this.

I did, by the way, copy the exact link to that page and plugged it into the address bar of IE and I still had the same headings.

I usually don't search for items from Amazon with the Amazon search, because it will display its results without headings, and although I can list links, you don't get as much description in the list links dialog.

So I usually do a web search for something with the first word being Amazon.com and that will find lots of Amazon.com links for whatever I'm looking for.

I haven’t noticed a change in the Amazon website in a very long time and I am honestly baffled why several people say that “lately” it seems to get more difficult and yet others basically say what I have said which is that they have no problems search for product, moving through the search results (heading level 2 will do that) and checking out after adding an item or several items to the cart.

I agree with this comment. Seems to be getting more difficult to use the website.

on the accessible site as far as I can tell you don't get access to the markit place and the part of the shopping where you can get items from other cellars

has this changed?

Amazon is broken, and has been for a couple of months.

You might try their accessibility site: www.amazon.com/access

But no promises there.

On their site they have a customer service toll free number, I’d call that as well.

Has the Amazon checkout become more complicated or is it just me?

When I use Firefox, I get to the checkout part and I get a message that says there was an error. When I use IE I can get through it, but it still seems more difficult. Anyone else notice this?

Thanks.
