Probably time to involve Jaws tech support, if the first person can't help you have to ask to have this escalated so somebody from their higher level of tech support will get in touch.

YOu may have to completely uninstall JAWS and reinstall it. I think that's how I got rid of that message. Uninstalled including from the apps\roaming whatever that is hidden.

Good luck!

Same here. I get the message once in a while even though I’ve checked remember me. Just hit enter and continue to Outlook, the messages should stop popping up in a few days. I think this is what we’d call a glitch.

Be aware that when you change a color in Office, the color JAWS reports when you are moving through the colors dialog is *not what it reports when the color is applied. I chose orange from the color grid, and when it was in a cell JAWS called it "antique white". "Dark Blue" became "slate grey".

Thanks for the ideas.  I’m going to play with using the Find Command, Filtering and other suggestions.   I am new to using the JAWS speech Schemes and see how this works well in Word, but I’m not getting them to work in Excel.  That might have been really helpful and maybe I’ll find a way to get it to work.

I’ll type up some questions and also call Microsoft Accessibility to see if they have any ideas.  It doesn’t’ help that there are just so many colors available in Office products.  The file I got from a coworker last week is using a background color called Khaki1.  She suggested that I could update the cells I edited, but I’m not even sure how to find this color when I need to fill appropriate cells.  I think I’ll ask some of the executive assistants around here for tips.  Even without the blindness aspect, maybe I can gain some best practices and tricks that might make my work easier when I need to add colors to a file.

Robin,

Please bear in mind that I have no personal experience in dealing with color-coded spreadsheets but I believe I can get you started on finding some possible solutions.

First, Excel's Find command, available via the ctrl-F hotkey, contains an Options button within this dialog. When you activate this button you will be in another  dialog. From this dialog, navigate with the tab key and look for the Format button. Once you activate the Format button you will be in a multi-page dialog box. One of these tabs is a Font tab. Within the font page is a color picker, where you can specify a specific color that you're looking for. Once you perform a color search it is likely that activating the Find Next command, which is probably f3, will search for the next cell containing the color you previously searched for. Along with that you could also use the Speech and Sounds Manager, found within Settings Center, to set JAWS to behave in a certain way when you move to a cell containing a specific color. As an example, it should be possible to tell JAWS to play a certain sound when you move into a cell containing red text or you could have JAWS identify that color by speaking its name when it gains focus. You can even tell JAWS to read text in a specific color in a different voice. For red text you could set JAWS to read it with a lower pitch voice, as an example. The instructions in how to do this would be in the JAWS help system and you have many options from which to choose. I wish that JAWS would have keystrokes where you could bring up a list of cells with specific color attributes, such as all cells with red text. I don't believe that this capability exists with the current set of Excel scripts. I think this is something which FS should add and it might be worth writing to suggestions@... to ask them to add this. It could likely be done with scripting.

I hope this helps.

Hi all,

Using JAWS 2019 with Office 365 and Windows 10.

I seem to be working with more people, including my new manager, who really like color coding in Excel.  I totally get it, as I can clearly understand how this visually makes looking at a large spreadsheet file easier, especially on calendar or schedule files.  The first project I had for my new manager was to take a color coded calendar she had from last summer and update it for this year, color coding each event based on whether I was able to secure the necessary room reservation.  My approach in this case was to hunt for color coded cells, and copy the color into a place off to the side, then clear all the colors and then paste the colors back in to new cells as I made the room reservations.  This is just an example.

Hear my question with the lens of someone who is losing more usable vision and adjusting to new leadership in my role.  I’m feeling a bit insecure about my abilities and am wondering if there are any tips from others who share spreadsheet files with sighted colleagues on managing colors and/or fancier layouts.  I’m intimidated by these large files my new manager is sending.  I’ve typically been the one creating the spreadsheet, so I could lay it out in my own way, but I’m taking on new job duties and inheriting files with lots of data that is just just a simple grid.

I guess I just need to hear of there are any tips or empathy out there.

  • This login screen is having issues with JAWS 2019 and 2020.  If I enter forms mode to type my password, I can type the first character, then forms mode turns back off and I have to manually turn it off again to finish the password.  This is a consistent issue.
  • I’m also just annoyed at this new step and would love to disable it.  I’m not sure what I may have done to trigger it or if this was just an Office update.  I did notice this coincides with now seeing a Skype icon in my System Tray that says I’m logged in, even though I don’t use Skype.  I do not get this screen if I just launch Word or Excel, although I suppose it’s fair to say that I typically launch Outlook first, so maybe I need to go test this from a fresh restart of my computer.

Thanks for any thoughts.

moderated Re: trouble with a new login screen in Outlook 2016

The only time I have seen this happen is if one has changed one's store password does not match what the e-mail server knows about, which will trigger the dialog for password entry.  Generally there is a checkbox in that dialog that says, "Remember password," or something very similar after the text box in which the password is entered.

If you type in your current password, and it's been being accepted, then make sure the next time the dialog presents itself you hunt for that checkbox and make sure it's checked.

Dear David Diamond & List:
That may be true. I Know they have sold Perkins Braillers for years at exactly what Ontario ADP pays maximum.

TO this day, I do not think CNIV stocks Amy Perkins Accessories, such as the wooden carrying case or the DYMO tape adapter.
They recently purchased Frontier Computing mot being able to bill the several provinces will seriously cramp their style.

I have it on good authority that the agency you speak of here in Canada cannot do business with government agencies anymore. Too greedy. They shot themselves in the foot because they vastly marked up the price of visual aids when submitting quotes to the government for such aids. .

Dear Mario & List:
The toll-free number for VISPERO is (800) 444-4443. However, Canadians are referred to Optalec Canada, their distributor here.

I have bought SMA from the U. S. occasionally, but the proper procedure is to order from Optalec Canada. CNIV is now a dealer of VISPERO.
I do not believe Canadians qualify for the annual subscription, however OPTALEC will know if we have it.

The price for an SMA last time was $60. So less expensive to maintain that than go to the $90 subscription unless you are several versions out of date.
Too bad the subscription model is just for those of us in the US.

That depends on how far behind you are.

If you are on Jaws 2019 and just didn’t have an SMA to upgrade to Jaws
2020 you should be able to buy a new SMA at whatever the price is and it will give you Jaws 2020 and Jaws 2021 this fall.

If you are still on Jaws 2018 you should be able to buy a new SMA and this would entitle you to upgrade to Jaws 2019 and Jaws 2020, of course there is no need to actually install Jaws 2019, you would go straight to Jaws 2020, but at that point your SMA is once again used up and if you want Jaws 2021 this fall you would need to buy another SMA either right away or at the latest by October.

If you are on anything prior to Jaws 2018 like Jaws 18 or even 17, you would have to immediately buy 2 SMA’s to even get Jaws 2020.

Alternatively, if you live in the US you can switch to the Jaws subscription model which is I believe $90 a year, this would entitle you to upgrade right away to Jaws 2020 no matter what version you are on, then you continue to pay $90 each year and this will always entitle you to install and use the latest update.

Having said all this, I would highly recommend you speak to Vispero directly at 1-727-803-8600, let them look up your account via the Jaws serial number you have and ask what your options are.

They do also have a toll-free number, but I don’t currently have it handy.
