Glad that worked.  Microsoft is extra protective when it comes to reading attached Word documents because they can contain viruses, malware, etc.  Hence the reason to never open attachments unless you trust the source.

If so, it may be in Protected View.

Often you can enable editing, assuming it is from a trusted source, by hitting f6 until you get a dialog that says something like, be careful, files from the internet can contain viruses.

Tab and there should be a button to enable editing.

Or, sometimes, you just need to go from read only to print view.

Same f6 will get you there.

Do you know if the PDF files are images?

Jaws will try to do OCR on image PDFs while I do not believe Narrator has that ability.

Which Adobe are you using?

Good morning: For some reason: when I try to read a pdf with Narrator, using the combination caplocks+r, nothing reads. I can read word files fine.

I'm asking this because sometimes jaws errors in opening a pdf when Narrator will actually open the file. Unfortunately, I can read the contents. Narrator will actually read none of my PDF files.

Thanks.

Agree, it is long overdue.

I emailed FS about this ages ago but perhaps others should add their clamour to the request.

It can be done with NVDA and an Addon I don’t see why Jaws cannot sort this out.

I have no trouble with Winamp and the latest build of windows 10, and I use it for audio -- but I play a lot of vieos and VLC is hands down the best player I have found for that. There's a lot of power under the hood and really I've only scratched the surface.

Hey David.

Regarding winamp, there were a few things I did to set it up that made it work better – iE, getting rid of some dead plugins. I also use windows now to add stuff to playlists instead of doing this within the programme itself; it seems a bit more stable. Anyway, nothing wrong with having multiple players on your computer, either – I use VLC for video; winamp for audio (keep considering switching to foobar and not doing it).

As for the VLC preferences, I used to be able to do what you are describing. For quite some time now though, opening preferences (or in fact any of the other dialogue screens) does not give any feedback at all. As far as I know they are visually open, but screen-readers say nothing. I don’t know when this started but I feel like it was prior to the latest version being installed, which I have done. There must be some setting that has altered which is not revealing this info to my screen0-reader, but I am really not sure what it could be or what I must change. Would be nice, though, if I knew.

Am I the only one noticing that with Jaws 2020, while reading EMail in Windows10 Mail, I need to refresh the screen (Jaws+Escape) to, when sometimes it lands on who knows where, having to also Control+Home o get to the top of the EMail? Once I got the hang of this way of going about, it’s not too bad, but somewhat annoying! With the competitor, thanks too for the Windows10 Essentials, one breezes through Mail! Does Jaws have some sort of scripts to fix these little bugs with
windows10?
