I just tried a google search in Microsoft Edge Version 80.0.361.62running JAWS Version 2020.2001.70 ILM and had no links that said the word Title after them.

Perhaps a call to Freedom Scientific to see if this is a Jaws setting somewhere?

Or, in the old days, I would have asked if your screen is maximized, so maybe that is still a good question?

I have no tried to share to Facebook, but I have noticed that for me only the Mail app shows up for sharing by email even though I have Outlook set as my default mail program and it is a Microsoft product. One would think sharing via Outlook would be supported, but if it is I also have not yet figured it out. Of course it’s just about as easy to press Alt + D on a particular page, then Control + C to copy the URL, open Outlook and start an email and then to either paste in the link or write something and make it into an embedded link.

I told you all along that some keyboards have such a key or slider switch and short of the keyboard being worn out or defective, that is always the most logical answer if no function key combination works.

Hi Don,

So you are saying when you tried the old keyboard the letter L was sticking,
but Alt + F4 and other keyboard shortcuts with function keys like Jaws Key +
F12 for the time and so on worked?
If that is the case then you may simply need a new keyboard. How old is the
keyboard you are using and was it just what I call a "cheap" mainstream
wired keyboard like the ones you can buy for $20 or was it a more expensive
mechanical keyboard?
In my experience the cheap keyboards which often come with a computer will
only last a couple of years before they start to do weird things and even
the better Logitech wireless keyboards like the MK510/540 or even more
expensive MK710 (those "MK" models are mouse/keyboard combos) have a limited
life span.
At home I use a Logitech K780 which is quite nice, but at work I have
actually gone back to mostly high-end wired mechanical keyboards, in this
case I decided on the keyboards from the company "Das Keyboard" and the
model I have is the "Professional 4". They are made from aluminum with
Cherry MX Blue switches and a fantastic built quality, each keyboard also
has 2 USB 3.0 ports on the back, but they also are $220 Canadian, I think in
the US they go for around $150 or $160 and at least last Black Friday I
didn't even see them on sale. I only bought them less than a year ago and I
guess I'll see if they indeed will pay for themselves by lasting 6 or more
years because typically before I bought Logitech wireless keyboards where I
could probably buy 3 for the price of one of these Das Keyboard models, but
I would have to replace them every 2 years or so.

Best regards,
Sieghard

If none of the function keys work I think it's time to look more closely at
your keyboard.
Do you know the make and model?
Would you have another keyboard around you could plug in and try? I suspect
that your keyboard either has a button or switch to disable the function
keys and you accidently pushed it or it is defective in some other way.

I was asking because some keyboards have a switch or button which locks the
function keys and yet others like the Logitech K780 require you to press
also the FN key along with any other key combination, e.g. without Logitech
Options software installed where you can tell the function keys to behave
normally, you would have to press FN + Alt + F4.
Another question I would have is whether this is on a laptop or a desktop?
If it's on a laptop, does Alt + F4 work if you use the laptop's keyboard?
Lastly, are other function key shortcuts working, e.g. Jaws Key + F7 to pull
up a list of links on a website or even just Jaws Key + F10 for a list of
open applications or Jaws Key + F11 to speak the time?

Alt tab to get out of an open email, then delete or move it, but the open

Hi,

If you are using Windows 10, one of the latest releases, go to

Settings

Click on Devices

Tab to list of items

Choose “Typing”

Click or hit enter

Tab once

Now you will see several choices including:

Correct Spelling , Auto fill and other items.

You can turn these on or off with a tap of the space bar.

Once you have made choices close the window.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it is strange.

If one of my regular web searches takes me to an Amazon page with a variety of results, then I have the headings, but not from the Amazon search.

They are links and numbered, like #1, #2, etc.

I can search the page for the number sign and press F3 to move down the page though.

Hi Glen,

I am surprised you don’t get headings for the search results. Below is a bunch of Jaws speech history, as an example, I searched for “Logitech MK540”, one of Logitech’s mouse/keyboard combos. After I typed the search term I went to the top of the page, cleared the Jaws history and then pressed first 1 to go to the heading level 1 which gives me information about the search results, then I press 2 repeatedly, each time it goes to the next search result and I did not edit the below at all:

1-16 of 30 results for "Logitech MK540"
Sort by: Featured heading level 1‑ Combo box‑
Logitech MK540 Wireless Keyboard Mouse Combo heading level 2‑ Link‑
Logitech MK545 ADVANCED Wireless Combo, English (920-008695) heading level 2‑ Link‑
Logitech MK270 Wireless Combo, English (920-004536) heading level 2‑ Link‑
Logitech MK360 Wireless Combo, English (920-003376) heading level 2‑ Link‑
Logitech Cordless Desktop MK335 Keyboard and Mouse Combo, 1 Count heading level 2‑ Link‑
Amazon Basics Wireless Computer Keyboard and Mouse Combo - Full Size - US Layout (QWERTY) heading level 2‑ Link

I am using Windows 10, latest public version of Edge and Jaws 2020 latest version, but this has worked like this for me for longer than I can remember or maybe I should say I can’t remember this not being like this.

I did, by the way, copy the exact link to that page and plugged it into the address bar of IE and I still had the same headings.

I usually don't search for items from Amazon with the Amazon search, because it will display its results without headings, and although I can list links, you don't get as much description in the list links dialog.

So I usually do a web search for something with the first word being Amazon.com and that will find lots of Amazon.com links for whatever I'm looking for.

I haven’t noticed a change in the Amazon website in a very long time and I am honestly baffled why several people say that “lately” it seems to get more difficult and yet others basically say what I have said which is that they have no problems search for product, moving through the search results (heading level 2 will do that) and checking out after adding an item or several items to the cart.

Or you can type a PowerShell command to do the same thing. I’m reasonably sure that mkdir works in PowerShell.

With Windows, there is almost never just one way to do things.

Dean gave three ways, and Sieghard had given yet another. Alt2 also works.

So Take your pick. The Applications key is the longest way to accomplish this.

Hi Shirley,

To make a folder in Windows 10, you have to use the applications key.

First, enter the folder you want to place your new folder in, and press the applications key or shift+f10. Once the menu opens arrow down several times until you reach the new sub menu. pres right arrow, and scroll to new folder and press enter. You can then type the name you want and press enter.

I hope that makes sense.

Press Alt + D to go to the address bar, then tab once and if Immersive Reader is available that simple key combination will put you right on the icon and enter or spacebar will activate it.

I think once when I tried the accessibility site it was like that and I was wondering why the accessibility should in a way be less accessible by not providing headings and such. I never went back to it and I think I even had to clear my browser cache and delete history and cookies to get rid of it.

Regards,

Sieghard

Has the Amazon checkout become more complicated or is it just me?

When I use Firefox, I get to the checkout part and I get a message that says there was an error. When I use IE I can get through it, but it still seems more difficult. Anyone else notice this?

Thanks.

Reading cell contents of merged cells can be fixed in JAWS for Windows Quick Settings.

1. Open the Worksheet with the merged cells
2. Open JAWS for Windows Quick Settings JAWS KEY-V
3. Insert "Cell Verbosity" without the quotes into the edit field
4. Press DOWN ARROW until focus is on "Cell Verbosity"
5. Press SPACEBAR to toggle the setting to "Content Only"
6. Navigate to and activate the OK button

When you navigate to merged cells, you should now hear only the content. You can switch it back at any time to hear cell coordinates.

I know it says Cell Coordinates and Contents but sometimes the contents don't read and you need to switch it up.

If you have other questions, please feel free to contact me. I'll do my best to help.

HI List,

I’ve recently been assigned a really complicated budget template to work through for work. It consists of conditional fields, popup fields, and several worksheets. I’m finding that Jaws isn’t reading to me the text within the group of merged cells, but instead is telling me that a coordinate of cells are in a group.

I was wondering if there are any rigorous excel training materials with jaws or one on one trainings that I could explore.’I’m open to suggestions to help me learn this budget template.

Thank you,

Ibraheem

P.S. but befor I forget, i'd like to know what is the best way to setup a home budget using excel thank you?

The reason alt+2 works is that the New Folder command is apparently on the tool bar by default, which fact I had forgotten.
