Hi, Albert. The settings for Voice Assistant are in JAWS Utilities. So, JAWS key plus J. If you have JAWS in the System Tray, press ENTER on Voice Assistant in Utilities. It is now the first option. Then Arrow down to Settings and press ENTER. Once you use Right Arrow to open Voice Assistant Settings, you will encounter the following options. If you don't have JAWS set to give permission to collect anonymous user data, you will hear the following,

Enable Voice AssistantUnavailable
Only available when Anonymous Usage Data collection is enabled. Press the Talk to JAWS hotkey, the default is Insert Alt Space, to enable Anonymous Usage Data collection and start Voice Assistant. Close and reopen Settings Center to change settings.
1 of 5
Voice Assistant

Under this option, you will see the following three options,

Listen for wake word Sharky

Enable Voice Assistant sounds ‑
Microphone Input Device

Make sure the first two options are checked.

Make sure the microphone is the one you wish to use for JAWS voice commands.

I didn't need any additional training materials to use Voice Assistant. I just went to JAWS Help, selected JAWS Help Topics, pressed CONTROL plus TAB to get to the index page, typed in Voice Assistant, pressed ENTER, followed by F6. This opens the topic for reading. All the commands for Voice Assistant are listed, including the "wake word" which is Sharky.

Good afternoon everyone,

Could someone please tell me where I should go too find out  how too enable voice assistant?  I’m using jaws 2021 with windows 10 on a laptop computer.  I didn’t  find anything where the setting senter option is, so that’s  why I’m asking this question. I did find something called application settings, but when I went in there, I didn’t see anything about voice assistant.  Also, how would I find the most and latest Jaws   up to date training materials on the Jaws training page, and where do I go too get too the jaws training page.

Thanks in advance,

               Good evening everyone,

When I’m in my inbox,  I’ve been experiencing the following issue.  It seems that while I’m reading a message that’s open,  I’ll get a notification sound that tells me that I’m receiving a new message, which reads the header of the incoming message. It will just start reading the message  on top of the one that I’ve been reading.  If anyone on list here has a fix for this problem,  please let me know how I can correct this problem from happening in the future.

Thanks in advance,

My guess is that, the microphone has its own sound card.  Jaws might be getting rerouted to it.

Subject: Looking for some ideas regarding a problem with Zoom, JAWS and a new USB mic

Greetings,

I’m not exactly sure who to ask, so I’ll just throw it out there. I figure this would be a good place to start.

For a few reasons, I bought a pretty high quality USB microphone (Blue-Yeti).  I want to be able to do some music and other things on Zoom, and this microphone will do quite a bit. The setup is very easy (plug-and-play), but that is also where things get interesting.

I’m using a PC laptop with JAWS as my primary computer. I encountered a couple of things.

First, when I plugged in the mic to the USB port, the audio from my computer went straight to the microphone. I didn’t know this until I plugged in headphones to the mic and heard the audio coming from there. I had to set the audio back to the computer, where I had computer speakers plugged in.

Is this normal? Someone else I know, who also has this microphone, encountered a similar issue. Once I set the audio back to the speakers, I thought things were fixed.

I launched Zoom and went ahead and did some mic tests to see how things sounded, and I figured once those tests sounded good, I’d be fine. The mic sounded great by the way, and I had Original Sound on, and a few strummed chords sounded good. Even just talking sounded much clearer. I heard no feedback through the speakers. I even did some recordings in a meeting I set up just for test purposes, and the recordings sounded fine.

Then, I ended up doing a quick zoom meeting with someone, and we noticed he was hearing an echo. We were just meeting to talk about things. We didn’t know where the echo was coming from. What was interesting was that he thought his echo was coming from his end, which ended up not being the case. He said my voice sounded fine. What he heard as an echo on his end, I heard as his voice coming in and out on mine, almost as if he was slightly breaking up.

We learned it was coming from my end after he had done some tests with other people. We tried meeting again, and the same issue happened. I figured I’d just not use the mic, since I was meeting with him informally. I tried unplugging the Yeti to see if it would go back to the internal computer mic. It didn’t. I plugged the mic back in, and I was able to be heard again, and the problem actually went away instantly, and we heard one another clearly. However, I could no longer hear JAWS. I don’t know if any other audio issues were going on. He sounded fine though.

Also, if I restart my computer without the mic plugged in, I can use Zoom with the laptop’s internal mic fine.

While it wouldn’t be ideal, I wouldn’t even mind starting a meeting, unplugging my mic and plugging it back in, and moving forward, but if I’m unable to hear JAWS, then that’s not good either.

I have no explanation for what might be happening and hope someone here might give some advice or ideas.

Somewhere along the line thought aht got remedied. I don’t remember any other real issues..maybe give ita  whirl and see what happens. They would definitely be receptive to your feedback if you have problems. Bandcamp is a good company.

You probably accidently pressed Control + T instead of Control + Y, T starts a new discussion and Y is for the folder list. These are Outlook shortcut keys and I highly doubt this would be different for you, just a small shift to the left since T is next to Y.

There is a slight learning curve which is why I produced a series of Audio tutorials on Speak On.

These Audio tutorials are accessible now from within the program itself under the optional VI Podcast App under the community section.

Rick, why not contact Spotify instead? Freedom Scientific (or whatever they’re called now) may be able to do something on their end with the JAWS software, eventually, but that’s when or if they care or get around to it. Spotify support might be able to offer some suggestions, or they may even be interested in making modifications for accessibility, if that’s what’s needed.

Do you use the free version of spotify? I might give it a gander sometime.

I have just recently become acquainted with Spotify.  I have submitted to your list questions about how to use Spotify with JAWS  and nobody is being of any help.  Today I tried contacting Freedom Scientific and they say that they don’t have anything to do with Spotify.  In fact, I don’t know if they have even heard of it.  So I’m trying to find out from anybody if there are any places where you can subscribe to podcasts which are compatible with JAWS and which you can use JAWS with, such as creating and adding to music playlists or, when you find a podcast if you want to hear episodes in ascending rather than in descending order.  If any of you know of any such programs that are compatible with JAWS will you please tell me what they are?  I do not use Apple.  I use a Desktop PC, use Windows 10 and use JAWS 2021.

JAWS is silent.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open Jarte.
2. Enter some text in the blank document.
3. Press ctrl+home to move to the top of the document.
4. Press the shift key along with arrow keys to select text.

Expected Results

JAWS should verify the text as it is being selected, followed by the
word “selected.”

Actual Results

JAWS is silent when selecting text.

I tried this and JAWS does not identify the selected text. although the directions are clear, I don't believe I'm doing it wrong.

Subject: JAWS does not read selected text in Jarte Hello. There is a workaround for the bug involving JAWS not identifying selected text when in Jarte. Until the issue has been fixed you can use the place markers feature to mark the beginning of a block of text with
ctrl+Windows+K. Next, move to the other end of the block of text and
press the layered keystroke insert+space key followed by the letter M.
Once this has been done you can delete, cut or copy the text. For best results it is good to first save the document before issuing these commands. Keyboard Manager can also be used to reassign these keys to ones of your choosing. David, using JAWS 2020 with the latest update and the portable version of Jarte, I have tried and experienced the same issue. I'm wondering if it has to do with the highlighting that Jarte does (or lack of) when selecting text?

enhanced edit mode has been disabled after opening the settings center by launching it from pressing insert+f2.

anyone have an idea or fix?

Subject: JAWS does not read selected text in Jarte Mario, I am sorry to tell you that I am able to verify your friend's findings, at least with the January build of JAWS 2021. I've been a user of Jarte for many years and I'm quite certain that this is a new regression. I don't have JAWS

2020 on this laptop or else I'd compare the results with that version.

I'm wondering if someone running JAWS

2020 or earlier can confirm this behavior.

A few things to note. In order to get JAWS to speak the location of the caret or cursor from within Jarte enhanced editor mode should be disabled within Settings Center but please do this once Jarte has been opened to ensure that toggling this setting to off will not negatively impact another program.

For reference when you press the shift key with arrow key navigation the expected behavior is that you would hear the text which you are highlighting, along with the word "selected." With Jarte text is being selected but JAWS is silent while selection commands are being issued.

If others can confirm this behavior please do send a bug report tosupport@vispero.com <mailto:support@vispero.com> with as much specific information as you can

provide: version of JAWS, steps to reproduce, expected results and actual results. 6.2 is the latest version of Jarte.

Please direct any responses about this to the list and not to me privately as I am not able to provide individual support for Jarte or with this issue, in general.

Subject: JAWS does not read selected text in Jarte

an acquaintance is having a problem that I'm hoping someone can help.

he is using Jarte, and when he selects some text to delete, it is not read back as selected like it does using Wordpad. he would prefer using Jarte because he can start a new document by simply pressing control+n and then use control+tab to switch to a different document.

I helped him disable Enhanced edit in the configuration for JAWS 2020 so it is possible to review the text.

is there another setting that can be modified to fix this problem?

HI Madison,'
The following advice is applicable to any software product (not just JAWS):
When Vispero or anyone asks for steps to reproduce something, they usually
mean what you want, what you are actually seeing, and details in between.
The key thing to note is being as detailed as much as possible, using what
you remember and notes you wrote down.
Try:
1. Write down what you want JAWS to do. You want to be very specific.
2. Write down what is actually happening. Be sure to provide specific
details if possible. These two things will help you stay on track when
reporting the issue.
3. For each step, write down what you did and how JAWS responded, including
commands you performed (including keystrokes if any), close to what JAWS
says, and any behavior you have noticed. Be sure to be very detailed here,
otherwise tech support will have a harder time reconstructing your scenario.
4. Be sure to note down other details such as JAWS version, version of the
app you are using, etc.
Package all your notes in an email or other format that Vispero can read and
send them your notes. I'm saying all this to emphasize the need to be
detailed in reporting issues.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi all,
I'm working with Freedom Scientific to try and fix my Jaws (Jaws stopping
speaking after reading a few Outlook addresses/contacts and Edge
favourites), but they want to know the steps that I'd take to reproduce the
problem, how on Earth do you reproduce a problem? Please help, as I've never
had to do this before. Also, as a side-note, if you've not done so already
if you're experiencing this same issue please report it to Freedom
Scientific, well they're hopefully going to be able to fix it for me, I
don't just want it fixed for me, I want it included in the next update so
that everyone who's having this issue can get it fixed. Thank you, Madison

Hello, I use the most recent version of windows10 and Jaws2021. I’m using Chrome and go to a particular web site. I was told I need to go to an item and hover the mouse over it. I pressed jaws key, control and pressed enter. Nothing happened. Nothing appeared and it didn’t say any line number that I might then jump to. Is there another way to get into a pop up?

Thanks,

Kevin
