If you're on the correct page, you'll find two combo boxes, one to select the
voices (you want Vocalizer Expressive) and another to choose the language.
Once you've done this, you should be able to navigate through the page to find
the download links. The next step is to download the installer, run it, and
follow the prompts to complete the installation. Finally, restart JAWS and
select the new voice in your voice profile.

I hope something in the above explanation helps you to move beyond whatever
the problem might be.

It's a work computer. I have administrative access to it, but the account I'm
logging in from is a domain account (I assume it's Microsoft Active
Directory).

Is there a way to find out whether account policies might be responsible? I
can certainly change settings on the local machine, but, obviously, not on the
server.

Strange. Never seen this. I suggest you reboot jaws and send an error report
to FS by pressing insert + windows + f4. Once you do this, restart your
computer and see if it works. If not, you will have to repair jaws.

While the document is open, press alt+f, then i, then e.

To tell Word not to open documents in protected mode, go to word options

Press enter to get to yet another dialog, and find protected view. Uncheck

Good luck!

Re: JAWS and Office 2016

Les Kriegler <kriegler@...>

Hi Cybthia,

Well, best of luck in sorting this out. As others have stated, if you can
avoid the on-line 365 version, you should be okay. I haven't used any other
mail client other than Outlook which is my preferred program by far for
accessing e-mail. I had instructed an individual a while back on Windows
Live Mail and didn't find that program as easy to use, but that's
subjective, and also, I've used Outlook for many years and feel very
comfortable with it. If you do upgrade to Office 2013 or 2016, CathyAnne
Murtha has excellent books on Office 2013 with Jaws. You can go to
blindtraining.com for more information.

Hi Les,

Sorry, I am running office 2010. Jason, the laptop is mine, I am a part-time
faculty member. However, the university is saying that if we don't upgrade
we may not have proper email access. I'm just going to negotiate with them I
think, and if they say I have to upgrade then they may well have to support
a JAWS upgrade.

Thanks, I am very much looking forward to life after dissertation!

I would expect JAWS 14 to be too old to support Microsoft Office 2016. If
it's a university-owned machine, they should be able to organize the
upgrade. If it's your personal machine then any upgrade is your decision,
including whether to upgrade to Office 2016.

I am just really hesitant because I am in the final stages of
finishing my dissertation, and I really have no time to deal with how
to sort out major changes in how Word, for example, works. I know I am
not unique there, but I would love it if I could upgrade without major
learning.

Could you wait until you've submitted your dissertation, and then negotiate
the upgrade, perhaps while the dissertation examiners are reading your work?

I wish you much success with the revision process as you prepare to submit.
There is life beyond dissertation revisions, even though it might not seem
so at times.
