Hi Mark & list members,

no problem, I will support a download link soon and writing a "read me" file with installation instructions.

Meanwhile can someone please help me out? I'm not using the English version of JAWS. I can change the language in JAWS and getting the English names of menus and controls but if I select the "Utilities" entry in menu bar and the "Explore Utilities Folder" JAWS will open an Explorer window with file links. This file links are not in English and I don't know the exact name of a particular file link opening the settings folder. It must be something similar to "Explore my settings". Can someone please tell me the exact name so I can write it down in the "Read me" file? And for my records there is a file link also leading to script folder, I think it must be something similar to "Explore my scripts". Can someone please tell me the exact name as well?

Thanks in advance
Udo

Hi Udo, if you would share the script and how to install it, that would be greatly appreciate. I think it would be fine to share on this list. Scripts are part of enhancing the JAWS experience.

Alison, it sounds like you may have sounds mode activated already.  I'm not sure why it's inconsistent in Zoom though. However, the way I do it is open the JAWS setting centre, then search for Forms Mode Sounds. Then F6 to settings pane, then tab to the Enable Sound Notifications checkbox.  Select it. Once it's selected, two buttons become available immediately following it. The first is to select the sound for entering forms mode. The second is for selecting the sound for when leaving forms mode.  Activating the buttons will cause a dialog with list view of sounds to appear, along with 4 buttons, including a play button and browse button if you want to add your own sound effect.

I’d like to know how to enable sounds for forms mode please. Jaws often does make a sound when I enter an edit field, but not always, for example, the editfield in Zoom so I never now whether I can type in the password or not.

you can also try all tab in case it's open the link in a new tab. And also fire fox isn't necessarily the greatest anymore. I would try the new Microsoft edge or chrome or brave anything  but firefox. basically any other chromium-based browser.

moderated Color Pickinc Again...!

Hi All,

Running Windows 7 and Word 2016.  Just got on my wife's laptop to update and run security scan... and I noticed that her Word colors are set to black on black.  I don't know how this has changed since my wife only does emailing on this computer when we travel to our other house.

When I open the font color dialogue it's set on automatic but, I guess that only means that the font is black, so how do I get it to have a white background with black font?

I have arrowed around and do find white but, if I select it I then have white font on a black background.  All help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks much.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

My Windows Mail closes frequently as well. At least it has stopped disappearing from my desktop. I used to have to go to Recycle Bin and bring it back often.

Hi Shai,

If you follow Leo's solution this will change the speaking of all keys you change in this dialog. But if you only want to mute speaking of Control+N in outlook and Windows+D for activating the desktop you need a script.

I made a script that works like this:

Shortcut assigned to scripts won't be spoken by JAWS. So I assign one of your shortcuts to my script. In doing this JAWS will run my script every time you use this shortcut and won't speak the shortcut. In my script there's a single line passing the shortcut pressed to the app. So for example if you press Windows+D my script will pass this on to activate the desktop but since the script has a shortcut JAWS will not speak this.

If you are interested I can mail the script either here in this list or to your personal address and describing how to install. But you should know there's no easy way of installing scripts and you have to manually edit files.

Let me know if you're interested.

Best wishes
Udo

I am actually surprised to hear this has any impact.  The color schemes for accessibility are supposed to be "overlays," for lack of a better way of putting it, that change the appearance for the viewer without changing the underlying attributes of the thing being viewed.

They do, but it can be difficult to find it.  I have always found it easier, when someone wants black, to have them set up RGB 0,0,0, in Custom Colors.  If they want white, then it's RGB 255,255,255.

The end points on the additive color spectrum are dead simple.  It's the myriad combinations of RGB that are somewhere between the two where things get mighty tricky!

This is helpful, Brian. Because I use a reverse high contrast color scheme, I’m often very dubious about what Automatic will do for my font colors.  I’ve had issues (mainly when in Outlook 2010) where my emails were going to people with white or yellow font on a white background. Really embarrassing in a work context.  I still have issues with this in Excel at times.  I wish Microsoft just offered a black in the standard colors list, but I’ll give your explanation of the color picker some inspection.  It’s been on my list for a while to call Microsoft Accessibility and get some guidance on using color themes.

Mike,

The default "Auto" color is black.  If you hit ALT+H,FC  [Home Ribbon, Font Color] the first thing you'll hear is, "Automatic, RGB 000," which is black.  Unless you change this, you can count on black being what you're going to get.

But, if you want to manually set black (which is all zeros for Red, Green, and Blue) then, after hitting the previously noted sequence, hit M (More) which will throw you into the more color picker, then right arrow from the Standard to the Custom tab.  In the Custom Tab, Hit ALT+R [Red], and whatever value is there, change it to zero.  Then follow that with ALT+G [Green] make it zero, ALT+B [Blue] make it zero.  Then OK your way out.  This will set the value to black, with not even the vaguest capability for an automatic change.  But the only time I've seen any change from black with automatic set is if you paste in text that's another color.

I'm using NVDA but it does read the colors.  If I down arrow after landing on Automatic I land on the first theme color (white) then right arrowing goes across the theme color row.  If you down arrow under a given theme color then it reads out the percentage of "intensity" for lack of a better descriptor of that color, working from a 10%, which is either 10% lighter or darker (announced) and each step darkens/lightens (depending on the theme color).

If someone wants me to get into Gradients I will, but please don't make me as I can only describe a gradient as moving from dark to light or light to dark for a given color and getting into all the various top to bottom, bottom to top, diagonal (left or right), etc., gradient configurations could take days.
