moderated Soliciting Donations of JAWS Dictionary Files (JDF)

Hello All,

I'm in the process of trying to put together a JAWS JDF dictionary format to NVDA DIC dictionary format converter.  As a part of that effort, I'm asking for anyone who's willing to send me a copy of the JAWS JDF dictionaries they've put together.

There is absolutely no nefarious intent here, none.  There are people using any given screen reader who've spent years putting together their own private dictionary files who'd like to have those available in other screen readers they'd like to use, and as things stand no one has scripts/add-ons/utilities that perform this function.

If you feel like tossing a copy of your dictionary my way, please use the Reply to Sender link at the end of this message to send it to me off-list.  The last thing we need is a flood of copied and pasted JDF files landing in the inboxes of everyone on the group, mostly because they're just noise for those not doing what I'm trying to do.

If you hold down the shift and delete key the file get's removed without going to the recycle bin or hearing all that extra stuff.

Perhaps the designer needs to see if they need to add something to that program to insure all processes close when you exit.

Hello again, everyone.

I tried Gerald’s suggestion about making sure the program I am working with is completely closed using the task manager, but had no luck.

I couldn’t find the program listed in the task manager itself, which to me, means it should already be closed.

I also looked in the system tray, but couldn’t find it there either, but perhaps I’m not looking in the right spot.  If someone could tell me where to look for any open programs in the system tray, that would be appreciated.

Why the program still won’t re-open, unless I completely shut down and re-boot my computer remains a mystery to me.

Once again, I’m using Windows 10 and the latest version of Jaws 2021 here.

Heya folks,

Was just wondering if this is happening to anybody else with Microsoft Office 2019 and latest Jaws.

One out of 4 times I exit out of Outlook 2019, Outlook crashes and then pops up the dialog box to choose my email account I want loaded again. I have tested this with NVDA a couple of times and there’s no Outlook 2019 crash when using that screen reader.

Anybody else encounting this? Initially I thought an Outlook update may fix it but am more thinking now its Jaws causing it.

Am using windows 10 Pro, I’ve also created a new database as suggested in a forum but Outlook still crashes the same.

Any input or feedback from other Office 2019 users will be appreciated.

Cheers,

The personal dictionaries are in the "my settings" folder. In Windows 10 press the start button and find JAWS Utilities for you your version of JAWS, in this will be both a alias for My Settings and for Global Settings.

Alternatively one can find personal settings at:

%appdata%\FreedomScientific\jaws\2021\settings\enu

Where 2021 is the JAWS version. I believe the "JDF" files are the dictionary files and one can open them in a standard text editor.

Cheer!

OK so since my last question went so well here’s another one.  I have to be able to accurately get a word count with my documents for one particular client.  I can have documents with as few as 100 words or as many as 15,000 words.  It used to be that when I opened a document I could immediately on opening the document use the JAWS key combination of JAWS Key plus Page Down and get the page and word counts.  Now JAWS says “page one of” however many pages followed by “spelling and grammar check no errors.”  How do I get it to continue saying the word count in the document instead of using the virtual ribbon and layered menus?  I know I can always do alt, R, P for proofing, then W for word count.  From there I have to enable to virtual cursor and get the word count from the dialogue that pops up.  Any suggestions on how to make this process a bit faster and go back to the way JAWS used to say things?  Should I turn off the spelling and grammar checker as documents are being typed?  Does that even have any effect on what I’m doing/attempting to do?

Subject: Another MS Word question, JAWS saying zoom in/out

Sincerely,

Hi Tom. In the Task manager, you may need to close the process of said program. Sometimes, the instance of it running can hide there. I would look in the processes area in your Task Manager and see if it is indeed running there. What program is this that we are talking about?

Is it one particular program?

I didn’t see the earlier part of this thread.

Hi Tom,
Did you look through both programs and processes?
