I'm not yet either, but I think that the bluetooth ones especially will become usable like a credit card.
Plus, it's like owning real precious metals as apposed to gold or silver bonds.

I am not convinced that you must use a hard-wallet.

The app can be problematic, so be aware of that.

Also, do not loose your seed words. You can get  another Ledger but you must have the seed words.

This choice is good as you are able to store manage multiple types of currency.

Hi,

As I start down the road of CryptoCurrencies, I've learned that folks need a hard wallet for keeping their Cryptos.

One I'm starting with looking at is the Nano S by Ledger.

I'm wondering if anyone has used any crypto wallet software with Jaws and if it works okay.

I don't want to drop 60 bucks on this thumb drive if the software for managing cryptos does not work with Jaws.

Thanks for any info on this, or related.

And there’s a new development in the latest version of Office 365 now Brian. It actually tells you the number of results found, where it didn’t used to.  So MS are sending that to the screen reader, since it does it with JAWS, NVDA and Narrator.

A second on that!   I love the advanced find on those occasions where I need to very carefully circumscribe what will come back in the results, but for simple keyword searches I use the same method you do.  (Both of these options, by the way and for others, have been "just like they are now" for as long as I can remember in Outlook, and that's quite a while.)

Sorry, I’m way behind with Email, but there’s an easier way if you just want to search for an Email.

Press Control E, then type in your search term and press enter.  You land immediately back in the list.

If you want to search for a message from Debbie for example, again, Control E and type from:Debbie, without spaces.  It will look for all Debbies in the list.

If you want to search for just one Debbie, add enough information to make it unambiguous.

It’s just easier than F6’ing around the place.

You can also do Subject: To: etc.

All the best

Hi James,

If you are using MS365, then I am assuming the email client is Outlook. To do a find press Control + Shift + F. You will land in a field in which you can type a search term. If that is what you are searching for type the term. Then tab and you will be in a combo box where you can choose the search term to be either located in just the subject or in

both the subject and body of the emails.

If you are looking for email that was sent from or sent to someone, tab passed these fields and you will find fields in which to enter either the from or to names.

After you have entered the search terms you want press enter. When the search is complete you will get the  message “find now.” Once you get that message press F6 and you will be in the list of messages it found.

I hope that helps!

Take care and stay safe!

Hi Brian and list,

First, let me apologize for being so far behind on reading emails.

Back when I was using Windows Live Mail.  I could search for a particular word in any folder or subfolder by going through the menus/ribbons without any problems.

Now, after using MS365 for around 15 months now, I still can’t figure out how to use the search feature.

I could come up with around 5 or 6 additional problems that I have with MS365 but I don’t want to give myself a headache thinking about them.

I use MS365 because  it is better for me than any thing else that I have tried.  Including Windows mail and Thunderbird and the web mail that Gmail and A T and T offer.

So, I’m not saying that it isn’t the best thing going, but, at least for me, I still can’t do some very basic things like search folders for a certain word or phrase.

For example, the hot key like Control, Shift, A goes in to advanced search.  That works fine for me.  But following the prompts/understanding the menus from that point to find what Iam looking for just isn’t working for me.  I’ve run in to dead ends with other things that were very easy with WLM.

Regards,

James & Alan,

I'm curious to hear some specific examples from you.  I absolutely will not deny the seemingly endless stream of new bells and whistles from Microsoft and others, but with the sole exception of the introduction of the ribbon interface (and even then, only for a subset of commands), I haven't encountered many keyboard shortcuts change at all.  The "old standards" have been the same quite literally for as long as I can remember, and the Windows commands that form the core of many programs (e.g., Save, Save As, the navigation dialog for both, Open, etc.) have been, too.

There is very seldom, in my experience, any shakeup in existing shortcuts secondary to new additions to the UI, whatever those additions may be.  Note well I said seldom, not absolutely never.

moderated Re: Syncing dropbox

Ann,

I don't know if this will help but you may want to read the Dropbox Support article discussing Smart Sync which can be found here:

https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/sync-uploads/smart-sync

I’ll paste the text of that article following my signature.

Alan Lemly

How to use Dropbox Smart Sync

This feature is only available to Dropbox customers on Plus, Family, Professional, or Business plans.

Dropbox Business team admins can manage Dropbox Smart Sync settings for their teams.

Smart Sync is a feature of the Dropbox desktop app that makes files online-only so you can save hard drive space on your computer. You can choose which files to make online-only or let automatic Smart Sync choose for you.

Note: The Smart Sync preferences you choose are unique to each computer and don’t affect other computers you use with Dropbox.

Set a file or folder to online-only or local

Note: You must install the Dropbox desktop application to use Smart Sync.

To set a file or folder to online-only using Smart Sync:

  1. Open File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
  2. Open the Dropbox folder.
  3. Right-click the file or folder you’d like to change to online-only.
  4. Hover over Smart Sync.
  5. Click Online Only. If you’d like to save your file back to your computer’s hard drive again, click Local.

 Online-only explained

If you set a file or folder to online-only, it is removed from your hard drive so that it’s only stored in your account on dropbox.com. You can still see the file or folder on your computer, but it’s just a placeholder. You need to be connected to the internet to open it. If you open the file, it becomes local and saves back to your computer’s hard drive. If you move, delete, or re-name it on your computer, even while offline, those changes will be mirrored on dropbox.com once your device is back online.

Smart Sync vs. selective sync

Selective sync also helps you save hard drive space by removing files from your hard drive so that they’re only saved on dropbox.com. However, you won’t be able to see those files or folders on your computer at all and there’s no automatic option for selective sync.

Automatic Smart Sync

You can turn on automatic Smart Sync so that files you don’t open from your computer for a few months become online-only automatically and new files you add to dropbox.com become online-only by default.

To turn on automatic Smart Sync:

  1. Open your Dropbox desktop app preferences.
  2. Click the Sync tab.
  3. Under Save hard drive space automatically, select On.

If you don’t open a file or folder from your computer for a few months, it’ll become online-only to save you hard drive space. If an application on your computer needs a file to be local to function properly, automatic Smart Sync will set it to local temporarily and return it to online-only later.

Make files added to the web default to online-only

You can make all files that you add to dropbox.com online-only by default in two ways:

  • Turn on automatic Smart Sync. (Instructions above).
  • Change this in your preferences. To do so:
  1. Open your Dropbox desktop app preferences.
  2. Click the Sync tab.
  3. Click the dropdown next to Files added on web default and click Online-only.
    • If automatic Smart Sync is on, you can’t choose this option because your files already default to online-only.

Why online-only files may take up a little space

Online-only files take up a small amount of space on your hard drive because the placeholder requires space to store the file name and the shortcut to dropbox.com, but it takes up much less space than the file itself would.

Note: On Mac, online-only files may appear to take up the full amount of space. To fix this, follow the instructions in the “Set online-only files to zero ‘logical’ size” section of this article.

System requirements for Smart Sync

Mac: OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Windows: 7 and up

Note: You can’t use Smart Sync on a mobile device, but you can set your Dropbox files to open on your mobile device while you’re offline.

Eventually when she wasn't getting anywhere I said okay that is enough I will wait for the fix. She said it will be out sometime next week. I should have stopped her after she couldn't find a particular folder. When she said she was going to go to a the prior version of Office I had her wait and copied my outlook folder and a word file to my external drive.

Also your friend has to remember that after the annual subscription expired, he or she cannot use JAWS without paying for renewal. There are pros and cons of annual subs versus the SMA. If you still wish to run JAWS without worring about expired date then go for SMA. But if you are fine to renew each time then go for annual subs.

Hi,

I'll tell you that the best is to go the Annual Online Renewal and jump right up to the 2021. If the individual goes with the SMA Service Maintaineance Agreement he will have to pay for all the years skipped and that is just not worth it any more for his situation. With the online portal he can then buy a multiple year subscription for either 1, 2, 3, or 5 years.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Alison. Edge seems to work a bit differently on different machines. Here's what I do to get to the settings in edge for downloads.

1. Open Edge.
2. Press ALT, followed by the letters F, then S for Settings.
3. If you have Forms mode set to automatic, press SHIFT plus TAB to get out of the search box. If you have forms mode set to Manual, skip step 3.
4. Press CONTROL plus HOME to get to the top of the Settings page.
5. Press the letter B until you hear JAWS say, Settings menu, button, menu, and press ENTER.
6. TAB once to reach the list of Settings Categories.
7. Arrow down to Downloads, and press ENTER.
8. If you want Edge to ask you each time where to save a download, uncheck the box which says, Ask me what to do with each download
9. Check the box that says, Show downloads menu when a download starts
10. Now, each time you download something with Edge by pressing ENTER on the Download link, you may just here silence, because Edge has changed, and JAWS won't read the download alert.
11. To get around this, Press CONTROL plus J to focus on the Downloads dialog.
12. TAB through the various questions, including, What do you want to do with "filename"?. TAB to Save As, and press ENTER.
13. Now you will be able to choose how you wish to name the file, as well as where you want it to go.
14. TAB some more, and you will see a Save button. Press ENTER, and you will immediately begin hearing the progress of your download.

If in step 8, you choose to have files always save to the downloads folder by unchecking the box which says, Ask me what to do with each download, all you need to do is to press ENTER on the download link, Press CONTROL plus J, and you will begin to hear the progress of your download without having to perform steps 12 through 14.

Join button. I did get into the room, but I still don’t know how I did
it. Next, I learned nobody could hear me. It took me a couple of hours
to figure out how to unmute the mic. After that, the instructor wanted
me to do a screen share, and there was no obvious way to do it. It all
ended with me accidentally leaving the meeting, and I didn’t know how
to get back in. Once I calmed down from panicking, I did think of shortcut keys, but it was too late.

This is why I’m asking whether the app or the web interface is better.
I do have a list of shortcut keys, so I can control the mic, screen
share, and such. I’m still unsure how to join a specific meeting in the app.

That’s what happened. I want things to go as smooth as possible, so
any pointers would be appreciated.

I think it would be helpful if you described what your bad experience was?

It integrates with Office 365, and my limited exposure suggests to me
that corporate administrators can turn on or off specific components
of the Teams suite.

Hi.

I’ve had a bad experience with the Microsoft Teams app, and was
wondering if the web one is better? At least this time I have the
keyboard shortcuts, so that’ll help no matter which one I use.

like x y z has shared the contents press enter to focus and I was able
to access other systems when I get the ctrls.
But, in the latest version of the ms teams, when I press enter on the

unable to access other systems though I have the ctrls.
Please suggest me some alternatives to access other devices

jason, thank you so much for sharing your experience on microsoft
teams desktop client.
I'm facing a strange issue on the latest version of the teams.
when ever some1 give the ctrls to me to access there system, i'm
unable to switch to there device.
for instance, when i get the ctrls from you, the jaws says, jason has
shared the content, press enter to put the focus. keeping the focus
and pressing enter, instead switching to the device, the profile card
is opening.
so, could you please tell me that how to access or how to switch to
other computers.

years. it works fine with speechand the desktop client. jaws 2021 has
scripts for it. i used doug lee's scripts for a while but when jaws

2021 came out with scripts i stopped using them.

the teams screen is a little different.the best way to learn it is listen to
the webinars from microsoft and the 2 from freedom.

when starting to Learn teams i found it best to stick to the chat area.
accessed with control 2 the other thing to keep

in Mind is the teams group area orks a little different from the chat area.

anyways I will write you with more hints tomorfrom my computer rather then
trying to type in via a braille keyboard. have a good day. row

I have not used the app.

I have had a brief look at the app on my phone – so not a Jaws topic of

For Jaws people, Teams is easier to work with if you have a braille display.
The configuration that I have has the web based interface divided into
several tabs which you arrow between. Once in a tab, you tab between
elements.

To start off with, I would encourage an training to be in the same physical
room – you and trainer together.

Hi, Tim. The place where you want to turn off Read mode in Microsoft Word is in the General Options of Microsoft Word, not in JAWS.

1. Open Word.
2. Press ALT, followed by the letters F, then T, for Options.
3. In General options, uncheck “Open e-mail attachments and other editable files in reading view”.
4. TAB to OK, and press ENTER.
5. Now your documents should open in Print layout instead of Reading layoug.

If you need more help, I can send you my telephone number privately, and I will do a JAWS Tandem with you to help you solve this problem.

Hello All,

I have a new installation of Office 2013. With Word 2013, I am suddenly getting a JAWS warning message about not supporting Reading Layout view, and I need to turn it off. I cannot find any way to do this. Any advice would be much appreciated. The way it is now, I cannot get to any text in the document.

May I ask why you wouldn't want to use Skype then? It works well on the computer as well as on a smartphone.

Facebook chat is accessible. I also use that through Facebook Messenger on my iPhone. Also, consider WhatsApp.

Hi, Guys.
A friend wants to upgrade from JFW2018 to JFW2021 and asked me about the different radio button options for payment that came up when he tried to upgrade. Where should I look on FS/Vespero's website to understand payment/plan options?

Thanks,
Dani
