Re: Can't Turn Control Indicators Off for Braille Display

Thank you, that worked! The odd thing is, even when I load a file into Notepad, if the line doesn't go all the way out to cell #40, when there's a line that does, with Structured Mode set to Line, the cursor snaps right back to cell #1 the way it ought.

You can keep structured mode but turn off the showing of controls and their state by going to settings, braille, structured mode, include optional components, and "show control grouping info"...uncheck this box and I think this will make most of this stuff go away for you.

Re: Trouble Reading Text in Notepad

That is strange. I have a focus, too, an older one though without the "scratch pad" or whatever they call it. I do not have this happening and cell 1 is certainly being utilised. I now have a broken dot in the middle that's stuck in the up position -- a no doubt mechanical issue I'll need to have resolved at some point, but obviously that's a different sort of thing.

So you're not missing any characters, all lines just start one cell in? All the time? Do you ever get any character in cell 1 at all?

It sounds sounds like your computer is using the function keys as media keys. Several vendors do this. There should be a way in the BIOS or vendor settings to turn these keys back into function keys. The short term solution is you might be able to use the Fn key which is usually between the control and option keys on Windows computers to force the function keys to behave as function keys.

I have no idea what is going on for you with Outlook. it a current version of Outlook? Quick settings should save your parameters, unless you set a option to revert settings but when you do that for a setting it usually reminds you of this if you are in beginner verbosity mode

After pressing windows key + D to move to the desktop, the focused item is normally not selected. Leave it that way. Open the context menu, which will be the desktop's context menu. Open the view sub menu, and choose large or medium or small icons. Note, if the focused item on the desktop is selected, you can deselect it by pressing Ctrl + spacebar. David.

Hi Mike, He should be able to arrow up and down with Outlook. The first thing I would do is an Online Outlook repair. I would go to the search box in Windows and type add/remove and press Enter. That will place him in the Control Panel. He should be able to arrow down and find either Outlook or Office 365. Press Enter on this and he will choose Modify. There are two options now. Quick Repair and Online Repair. I’d choose the second option. It takes about 30 minutes before the process completes. Once done, run Outlook and see if the issue is resolved. If not, a Jaws repair should be run. I do that from the executable file that he should download. The first option is to run a repair. Hope this helps. Best,
Les

I have a JAWS + Outlook question for you. Do you have any information on how I can make JAWS and Outlook interact more smoothly? Each time I arrow up or down in the inbox, I have to press the JAWS key + the up arrow in order to get it to read the first line of the message before I decide whether I want to open it or not. Is there a way to get it to read just by arrowing up or down? Thanks for your help with this.
I don't use Outllook 2016 and can't help him. If anyone knows how to fix this, would you please give him a hand? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

The only way I know to get list view in Desktop is via File Explorer. Windows E then D for Desktop and enter and then I will indeed have the Desktop in list view. However as others have said simply press windows M to go the actual desktop.

Fred,
If you go to your desktop with the Windows key + m or D, keystroke there's not a list view option. If you look at your View settings from the context menu you'll see what settings are available. Make sure nothing is selected on the desktop when you open the context menu because if something is highlighted you won't get the View & Sort By options. If you have the View setting on small icons and only have a few desktop icons it'll appear as if it's a list type view.

How did you get to the desktop? If you're viewing it in File Explorer you will likely be in list view. If you get to it via WinKey+D, you shouldn't be. Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Re: Quick Books
QuickBooks Online is very accessible both on the PC and iOS, maybe even more so on iOS.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I have played around with it about a year ago and it was pretty good then, but they are very commited to accessibility and have been making ongoing improvements to QuickBooks Online. This is the subscription model where you pay a monthly or annual subscription fee. I have been using Sage 50 forever, but I am about to buy a QuickBooks Online subscription shortly for a new company I set up as a holding company, there isn't much volume with respect to transactions or financial data, the company simply owns a building I bought for my retail store. My main business, the one which is the retail business and which has a much larger volume of transactions simply pays a monthly rent amount to the other company and currently there is a bit more going on since I have been renovating the building for the last 3 months. Anyways, my goal is to eventually also switch to QuickBooks with my retail business and to connect it to my point of sale software, using it for the other company allows me to get familiar with it without the pressure to instantly deal with dozens of transactions each day. Best regards, Sieghard
