Hello Glen:

I do not know where you got the idea that Microsoft were reluctant to produce their own Antivirus software. If that was the case, why did they produce Microsoft Essentials for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

As far as I know, Windows Defender, including its Antivirus component, was always going to be available as the default protection software, for windows8, 8.1 and Windows 10.

I agree, I only use Microsoft's Defender, and I must say that it was long
over-due, Microsoft should have been protecting their system from the start.
I think that they were getting into trouble with anti-trust suits like with
it's Internet Explorer and other such programs that seemed to keep the
competition out, so MS was reluctant to make its own anti-virus program for
fear that they were again killing off competition.

Hi,
While I appreciate your feelings , the most recent Freedom Scientific

effective anti virus for most users. And Eric from Vespero said this assumes

I have used Windows Defender and has done just fine. Now, nothing against

Windows defender is not effective. A completely fiasco software. We know
that the first virus in computer history was written by Bill Gates. So why
do we trust Microsoft so much? Kaspersky says there is no such thing. They
even say we can show our source code. Despite this, I do not go and use an
antivirus that does nothing. Kaspersky also has a free antivirus.

Kaspersky.

using Kaspersky Antivirus with JAWS I have sometimes seen JAWS
being able to read the various controls as I navigate to them with
tab or shift-tab but this accessibility seemed to stop working
after a while. I am guessing this could have been due to a
Kaspersky program update but I cannot confirm this without
uninstalling it and reinstalling an earlier version which I
honestly don't wish to do. For now the tab key reads nothing and,
as you say, using the touch cursor is necessary when navigating in
the main window. If you access the program from the system tray
choosing the Settings or Task Manager options may be more
accessible with JAWS. I do feel that some scripting could solve
for many of these issues. Once I learn a little more about
scripting I am willing to try and write some Kaspersky scripts but
it's going to be a while before this can happen.

Hello,

You can use the layered keystroke Insert and Spacebar together, and then F11. THis is a toggle, so same keystrokes to turn it off. It is temporary, so if you restart your computer, screen shade will be off again.

Well, the iBarstool has nothing to blame here, it was

too early in the day for doing 12 ounce curls!  LOL  LOL

I'll try to put in more simpley:

The screen shade setting does not appear in the Jaws

Settings Center and is only accessible through the layered

keystroke feature or, Jaws quick settings.

The layered keystroke feature is when you  hold down the

Insert key then press down the spacebar, let up on both

keys, then press a third key to perform a particular task.

In this case the layered keystroke to turn the, Screen

Shade, On or Off task is below:

Hold down the Insert key, then press down the spacebar, now

let up on both keys, and tap the, Print Screen, button.

With each press of this keystroke sequence you will hear

Jaws report either, Screen shade on or, Screenn shade off.

Since the Jaws screen shade feature isn't available in the

Settings Center, and can be only accessed by the 2 ways

mentioned above, here's the way to check its current setting

             through Jaws quick settings:

BTW,  whether you're in Explorer or a program, the screen

shade setting is found in the General Options category of

             Jaws quick settings.

So, when, in or on, most places of your computer press,

Insert + V, to open Jaws quick settings.

Down arrow until you hear Jaws report, General Options, and

if Jaws reports that it's closed right arrow to open.

I would try sticking it in the auto start function, this way, it should start when JAWS is started, either automatically or manually.

The code is actually very simple. The script name is ToggleScreenShade,
so I just need to call it when JFW starts.

Now continue down arrowing until you hear Jaws report,
Screen Shade, either checked or unchecked.  Pressing the
spacebar will toggle this setting on & off, checked being,
On, and unchecked being, Off.

If you make a settings change for this setting or others,
