only a small fraction of post appear in my news feed. I'm

Re: accessible video editing software with JAWS 16

Steve Matzura

You might try Filmora. It's free, but because I can't see past the
ends of my eyelashes, I don't know anything about how good it is,
which also begs the question of how a person who needs a screenreader
can use video editing software in the first place. By the way, if
you're into trying the higher-priced spread, Sound Forge has this
capability, but again, I don't know how a person who needs a
screenreader would do it and do it accurately.

Other ways of getting help are:

Insert + W for a list of Outlook keystrokes;

Insert + H for a list of JAWS keystrokes for Outlook;

Hold down Insert and press F1 twice, quickly. That should open the JAWS help program and put you on the Outlook item. Press F6 to jump to the help, which is a series of web pages.

Interesting. I wish I'd seen this a few weeks ago. Definitely been an issue for me. Reinstalled office 360 a couple of times, reinstalled Jaws a few times, and eventually did a clean rebuild of the laptop with windows 10 pro, anniversary edition from the bare drive up. Damned thing still kept crashing word 2016 when doing a save as (pissed off!)!
I fussed around with it for a long time and was able to overcome the problem eventually by applying what seems to be an unrelated but effective fix to folders. Specifically, in windows file explorer I selected one of my document folders, brought up a context menu, selected properties, in the general tab tabbed to the "read only" check box which indicated as being "partially checked" and unchecked it, hit Ok and then rebooted. Then when I opened a new document in Word 2016 I was able to do a "save as" without crashing the program. Can't explain it but it worked and I only had to do that with one documenbt folder and it stuck for everything.
The system is still a bit flaky in word and powerpoint, have experienced a couple of crashes and/or docs not opening properly but overall much closer to stable than before the fix. Weird but true.

Any other input on stabilizing things in this OS environment with JAWS would be welcome.

I don't have problems saving files in Word 2010 Pro but it frequently
says that the Normal file has been changed, which prevents Word from
closing unless I want to save the Normal, which has not had anything changed.

I can open a file, read it, exit Word ok the first time. If I open a
second file, read it, I cannot close word unless I use the task
manager to kill it, leaving a temp normal file hanging on my machine.

Hi everyone,

I have had this problem for several weeks, so you may have talked
about it a while back and I missed it. If you weeks ago, Microsoft
word started crashing when I try to save the file. I can save changes
to an already existing file, but when I created a new file it would
crash every time as I tried to save it. I went on the Microsoft help
pages, and I found a post that said that word is now crashing when
saving a file while using jaws. So it is a known issue, but there was
no
sense of when it would be fixed.

Has anyone come up with a good work around for this problem? I have
been using WordPad, but that's not a very good workaround.

I am using windows 10, office 365, and the latest version of jaws. I
think this started happening before the latest jaws update came out.
I wish I had any idea when it would be fixed.

Thanks, Bonnie

Re: strange keyboard

Hi,
One suggestion would be to look in the control panel under keyboard.
Sometimes there might be a tab which one can press control plus tab to
called classic keys which is what you are looking for to disable the
keyboard's multimedia mode. You can tab to and check this box to
enable this feature. Now, all keys should act as normal. Sometimes
this feature is also an fn (function key) setting. You may want to
consult the manual or Google.
Hope that helps

CTRL n = new message, CTRL f = forward, CTRL 1 = inbox, if you are not in the inbox, CTRL 2 = calendar, unless the order was rearranged, CTRL y takes you to the list of folders where you can down arrow, or press the first letter to jump to the folder, CTRL shift C to create a new contact, phew!

For many situations like this, the computer must be booted up, and the BIOS or UEFI must be accessed. Multimedia or Media Action keys must be disabled in this mode, and it must be done with the help of a sighted person, since Windows is not yet loaded when the BIOS or UEFI is accessed. Since Windows is not loaded, speech cannot be loaded, even Narrator. This is why sighted help is necessary.

Hello Patricia,

You're quite welcome.

The Microsoft technician was extremely emphatic about running the Setup..exe file as an administrator. He was clear that it was not enough to merely be logged into the computer with an account with administrative privileges.

So, before you begin, make certain to right-mouse click on the Setup.exe file and select the "Run as Administrator" item.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Hello Everyone,

edition of Windows 10 Enterprise.

In my case, I was told by a MS Partner Support Technician that those
who have volume licenses such as mine would have to go to the Partner
portal and manually download the ISO image of the Anniversary update.
He told me that Enterprise volume license holders would not receive
the update through the Windows Update tool as many do not necessarily
want to update at any given point in time.

So, I went to the portal, downloaded the ISO image and mounted it on
my Windows 10 Desktop. It was not necessary to burn a DVD.

Then, I located the Setup.exe file and ran it as an administrator.
The technician told me that it was extremely important to run the file
as Administrator.

I believe there were just 2 or 3 dialog boxes to which I had to
address and then the installation began.

The machine rebooted 3 or 4 times at the end of which my normal
Desktop, complete with Jaws automatically running, appeared.

No problems, whatsoever.
