Hi again, Judy. Here's what JAWS says about Document Presentation:

This option controls how JAWS formats virtual documents.

Select Simple Layout to have links, form fields, buttons, and other page controls display on a separate line. This is the default setting if Smart Navigation is not enabled.

Select Screen Layout to have pages rendered in the virtual buffer in a way that is similar to what a sighted user sees on the screen. If page controls visually appear on the same line, then they will appear on the same line in the virtual buffer. In addition, all items in a single table row display on the same line. Table cells are separated by a vertical bar.

Screen Layout is used when Smart Navigation is set to Controls or Controls and Tables and cannot be changed while Smart Navigation is active.

I don't have Smart Navigation enabled, yet this seems to make no difference.

Hi all, there is a setting in JAWS that allows a person to read links on a web page left to right as they are viewed by a sighted person, instead of the normal up and down. It has been in for a few versions of JAWS. Can anyone think of the name of that feature?

Hello,
When I try to reply back or add a Google class comment using JAWS with
Google Chrome I notice that I am not able to read back the comment
when in forms mode or select and back space over the characters that
have been entered. I have tried disabling the virtual pc cursor
(insert z) with no success. I am able to use Internet Explorer but
typing is very sluggish.
I am using JAWS2020 on a Windows10 machine.
Does anyone have solutions to this issue?
Thank you in advance.

I've noticed this issue.

On some web pages the links are on the same line and sometimes they are on separate lines.

I made no changes to the Jaws settings.

Now that you brought this to our attention, I'll try to notice a pattern.

Maybe it depends on the web browser, I regularly switch between IE11, Firefox and Chrome.

Maybe it depends on the web page.

Hi, Judy. I'm getting the same behavior, no matter whether I set Document Presentation to Simple or Screen Layout. Seems to make no difference when using TAB to traverse the page.

By the way, I'm using Internet Explorer to test the behavior of Document Presentation, not because I think IE is the best, but because, when they implemented these settings, that was the browser that was most used at the time.

Hello Pat:

Question 1: With JAWS 18, are you on the last upgrade for your current SMA? Which is why you are using the temporary license for JAWS 2020, so you can try its new and upgraded features?

Question 2: did you use the JAWS function, which copies the settings you set in JAWS 18 to JAWS 2020?

Hi,

Yes, latest version of windows 10 home edition with all necessary and
optional updates installed.
Checked yesterday, and there is no further updates needed.
Downloaded the latest version of jaws from freedom scientific and used it.
All apps in startup are turned off, apart from the necessary ones such as
the audio drivers etc that are actually necessary.
There is an application file for jaws set to "on". I set this to "off" just
in case, but no difference.

I wasn't aware of this feature, but you could be right. Now that i
think
of
it, it started right after i installed the temporary authorization (90

That could explain why 2018 works and 2020 doesn't. If it checks while

it
is
fine, but then windows is fully up at that time.
Any way to disable/check/change this or something?

might that be the JAWS feature touted as new in either 2019 or 2020,
saying
that JAWS will speak before checking your authorization, so you don't
have to wait so long to hear that it is running. However, it doesn't
do
anything
till it makes internal checks and decides what context you are running in.
So in my opinion it is a totally useless change which FS calls an
improvement.

Hi,

I am new to this group, so i hope i am doing this right.
I have jaws2018 and 2020. 2018 works fine, but when 2020 starts,
there is no jaws window.
It seems to be starting before windows 10 has loaded.
I uninstalled and reinstalled it, but there was no change.

Any ideas?

Hi Michael,
You can only use the time shift tool using a mouse, not the keyboard. However, a keyboard user can time shift tracks using the commands on the align tracks sub menu, which is on the Tracks menu.
For example, if you want to time shift the audio in a track so that it starts at a certain time:
1. Move the cursor to the time at which you want the audio to start.
2. Select the track which contains the audio which you want to time shift, and ensure that other tracks are not selected.
3. Open the tracks menu, open the align tracks sub menu, and choose Start to Cursor/Selection start.

David.

Yes, latest version of windows 10 home edition with all necessary and

Checked yesterday, and there is no further updates needed.
Downloaded the latest version of jaws from freedom scientific and used it.
All apps in startup are turned off, apart from the necessary ones such as
the audio drivers etc that are actually necessary.
There is an application file for jaws set to "on". I set this to "off" just

I wasn't aware of this feature, but you could be right. Now that i
think
of

That could explain why 2018 works and 2020 doesn't. If it checks while

it

fine, but then windows is fully up at that time.

I recently purchased a new commercial building for my retail store and my realter send me a lot of documents via DocuSign.

There is a “Screenreader” mode, once you click it all should work pretty well as far as initializing or signing, actually reading the document is a bit of a different story, but then again I never tried very hard because usually I just had to initial some small change and I knew what it was so didn’t really have to read everything in detail.
