moderated Outlook scheduling assistant

Van Lant, Robin

I recently got an update to Office 365 here at work and am now on Microsoft Outlook Subscription Version 16.0.11929.20648.  With this, there are some changes to the calendar portion of Outlook, including the order of the entry fields when creating a new invitation.  The other thing is that the Scheduling Assistant is now a tab on the ribbon.  It’s pretty easy to hit alt and right arrow to open the scheduling assistant.   Here is where my question comes in.  Once on that Scheduling Assistant view, I used to use Shift Control S to read the availability of my invitees before sending an invitation.  This keystroke no longer works, simply saying “Attendee Status not found”.  If I press F6, focus rotate between three items: Room finder, Upper ribbon and , then to “All attendee Status”.  This last one reads out the information I need.  What’s interesting to me is that I cannot think of a way to read out this information without circulating through the options with F6, yet the information being read seems to correspond to the pane I’m initially in when I open Scheduling Assistant.  Anyone else using Scheduling Assistant in this new format and have any other insights?

Others are sharing tips that all do play into lines per page.  The biggest difference starting in Word 2010 and later Word is that Microsoft decided to make the default now include some extra visual spacing between each line that is not controlled by your typical single, double or 1.5 line spacing.  We blind folks would have no way of knowing this has changed except for seeing that less content fits on a page and/or that one setting is different.   If she is using the same font as in the past, I’ll bet that the real kicker for her is this new formatting, which is controlled in the paragraph settings.   As someone noted, what she wants is the following:   Here is how to fix it in the default.

Go into a document.  If she needs to fix a current document, press Control A to select all in the document.  Press the application key to open the context menu and arrow down to paragraph.

A dialog box will open.

Tab through till you hear the settings for “Before” and also “After”.  In both of these edit boxes, type 0.

Tab to the line spacing combo box and be sure it is set to Single.

Then tab to the checkbox that asks if you want space between each paragraph of the same type.  Uncheck this box.

Tab to the button to “Set as default” and click it.

Then tab to OK and hit that.

The same steps can be done in an empty document to set this to the default for your copy of Word.

Robin

My recommendation is to open a blank document.

Press the applications key or shift+f10, and then the letter f for fonts.

Pick the font she wants, tab to regular, then tab to size and if she wants 46 lines, 12 point will give her that with most fonts. Then either shift tab a bunch or continue tabbing a bunch to set as default and hit space bar, then a dialog comes up that is defaulting to this document only, tab twice to the radio button and arrow down once to for all documents based on the normal template and hit enter.

She may need another enter on OK to get it to stick.

For the Margins, press Alt+p which puts you on the Layout tab, arrow down once and Margin is the first item.  Hit space on that and then she can either do a custom or arrow through and find 1 inch margins. And select that.

One more thing I would do that probably means she will need to go back to Layout with Alt+p and down arrow, then tab to the settings for before Paragraph and after Paragraph and make sure they are both set to 0.

Otherwise, you get odd extra spacing and sighted folks, at least my wife, are not happy.

I hope that helps,

Richard

Interesting about single line space, I've never seen Word default to double line spacing.
But that extra spacing before or after paragraph sure wastes a lot of lines.

I just started using KeePass, after reading all my saved emails on this topic and watching a few videos.  The interface is quite straightforward and keyboard friendly.  Alan Lemly did a written guide on it recently.  I’m still figuring it out with the sync between my phone and laptop, but this is a good program for me to start with.

Yes this is good, but you also need to make sure that it is single line spacing or it will only be 25 lines as you would see in the link I posted.

Hi All, Here's a little humor to take your minds off Jaws for a few seconds.

The following are new Windows messages that are under consideration for the planned Windows 10.1

1. Enter any 11-digit prime number to continue.

2. Press any key to continue or any other key to quit.

3. Press any key except... no, No, NO, NOT THAT ONE!

4. Bad command or file name! Go stand in the corner.

5. This will end your Windows session. Do you want to play another game?

6. Windows message: "Error saving file! Format drive now? (Y/Y)"

7. This is a message from God Gates: "Rebooting the world. Please log off."

8. To "shut down" your system, type "WIN"

9. BREAKFAST.SYS halted... Cereal port not responding.

10. COFFEE.SYS missing... Insert cup in cup holder and press any key.

11. File not found. Should I fake it? (Y/N)

12. Runtime Error 6D at 417A:32CF: Incompetent User.

13. Error reading FAT record: Try the SKINNY one? (Y/N)

14. WinErr 16547: LPT1 not found. Use backup. (PENCIL & PAPER.SYS)

15. User Error: Replace user.

16. Windows VirusScan 1.0 - "Windows found: Remove it? (Y/N)"

17. Your hard drive has been scanned and all stolen software titles have been deleted. The police are on the way.

I find that more often than having something already in the password text box, there is a user name that is already there. And oddly, there are certain sites where Jaws does not read that when you first land on the text box for the user name, so that you enter it twice. I, personally have never found the password field with any prior info.

Hello, I have been attempting to log onto my banks web site. Since the most recent of Jaws2020 it is impossible. I enter my user id and password and the screen comes back asking me to enter my user id and password. This happens on Google Chrome, Fire Fox and Internet Explorer. I even talked with support at the bank and sometimes they could see an attempted was made and other times they couldn’t. The bank said this is not happening with anyone else. Is it a Jaws problem? Could it be my service providers problem? Or is it just something else? Thanks, Kevin

Please let me insert my two cents worth.

First, Do an image backup of your PC if possible just in case it becomes necessary to do a complete recovery of your hard drive after tech support attempts a repair.

Pay close attention to everything that the tech support person is doing.  Often, it is you who will be the person who comes up with the solution to fix your PC.  But, it is sometimes necessary to have the sighted assistance to get the job done.

'Tis the nature of tech support, no matter whose.

Concerning the word suggestion part of your question, I am not sure if
Chrome contains such a feature or if Jaws is able to detect it.
However, as you type, Jaws warns you of misspelling on each word, in
case it happens.

Thanks. After setting it up how do I get it to work? Is it just
supposed to prompt you as your writing? That's what it does on my

how to get to the word suggestions and pick the one I want.

Hello, while on Chrome, press F6 and continue tabbing until you hear the

Right Under the advance heading, you will be noticing a new heading
titled

Language
English
Show language options
Spell check which is a toggled control; that means you can turn it on or
off by pressing space.
Once you turn it on, you will have the 2 spelling options, Basic and
Enhanced Spelling respectively which are presented as radio buttons, so
that you could make the selection to your liking.

Hope this helps

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

This is a case where a sighted family member or trusted friend may be of great help as there could be a message or they may see that you enter your password when in fact nothing is entered.

Hi, Kevin. Better to press CONTROL plus A, press DELETE, not BACKSPACE, then continue entering password.

I never save my password on the site. If I have to enter it a second time or more, I always press ‘end’ and then back space just in case anything is in the field.

Are you making sure the password edit field is empty before you type in your PW?

If it was saved once and it's there, you might be just adding to it.
