Re: getting Jaws on the desktop
While I can get the shell:AppsFolder to display in any of the typical views, it does not respond to the standard folder shortcut keys to change the view. The only way I can get there is:
1. Activate the Organize dropdown, Layout Option, Menu Bar toggle. 2. Activate the View Menu (ALT+V), Details option (followed by D). It also always reverts to Tiles view, it's default, if you close it and open it again later, no matter what view you had chosen for it using the above method. With NVDA, and I'd have to believe with JAWS (but haven't tested), first letter navigation works regardless of the view chosen. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

It's under File > Office Account. Also, for Office 365 there is no Office 2019, this refers only to the stand-alone version. With Office being a subscription product you will always have the latest version.

Hello Bill,

That all depends on which View yu select, by default it might be showing as a grid, but you can display this folder just as any other folder with small icons, medium icons, large icons, a list or details and the standard folder shortcut keys apply, e.g. Control + Shift + numberRow 6 for Details. If you select to show it as a list or details all apps are listed one below the other and of course first letter navigation applies so simply typing J will take you instantly to Jaws.

Re: reading footnotes in a word document
Ok, I shall wait until next week when I plan to upgrade. Also Richard, for me there is no concern whether footnotes appear at bottom of page, I usually switch to draft view when reading long documents in braille. Usually when I pick a footnote number, I press the relevant cursor routing button and usually go to them with cntrl-shift-e which pays most of the time. However, since this is really a preview screen and I particularly want to read a very long note, I use the customary method of windows key-colon, arrow down to footnotes and then have to find the one I want, a bit more tedious when you get to say, note 289 or so. Take care, Takis

With my Orbit Reader 20 plus, in Word 2016 from Microsoft Office 365, leaving the UI option checked and having Comments, Footnotes, and Endnotes Detection On in Reading OptionsWord Settings, when I come to a footnote with the braille display it shows the number sign, dot 1 for number 1, with dots 7,8 under both cells, and so on. Then, at the bottom of the page, it shows the number and the text of the footnote. I am using UEB Contracted.

Hi Richard/all, Kevin may have had an option called “ui” something checked, which is located in the word options of jaws. I think it’s related to office use only, but I am not sure. I found that, while that was checked, footnote numbers did not show up in text, though speech might well have read them, I usually work with a braille display, so it was absolutely essential for me to have the footnote numbers showing. Once I unchecked that box, note numbers came back as usual. Hope this helps, Takis

How can I get jaws to read my mail in the deleted mailbox of outlook 2019? Every time I go to that mailbox, it states that there's no mail in that mailbox, even though I know that there are mail in the mailbox. What do I need to click on to have my mail that's inside the deleted mailbox show up? Many thanks. Re: Office 365
1. Office 365 (like most recent versions of Office) should be self-updating. It never hurts to check, but it's unlikely to turn up anything when you do. If you are a Windows 10 User, and look in your Update History under the Quality Updates section, you'll very likely see a number of items related to Microsoft Office if you have Office.
2. Microsoft 2016, 2019, and 365 are all rooted in the same code base, a lot of which has not changed. So specific version numbers on components that really haven't changed could reflect 2016 in all three. 3. There have definitely been updates to specific components in 2019, and especially 365, as time has marched on. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.
