Hi Tim,

MWB 3.0 is not accessible.  You can navigate it, but accessible it's not.  MWB 2.2 is accessible with a little practice.

Take care.

Hello Brian,

I greatly appreciate the feedback.  Is Malware Bytes version 3 accessible?  My paid license is an annual subscription, and I assume it applies to both the current and any previous version of MB; I have been running their version 1.75, since I was warned on this list that version 2 was not accessible.  I have not tried Version 3.  Please advise, and much thanks!

Tim,

The current version of Windows Defender that comes with Windows 10 is a perfectly serviceable and accessible (at least for the moment) antivirus program.  Depending on which version of Malwarebytes you have a license for it may, or may not, be a straight antimalware program or a combination antivirus-antimalware program.  The folks at Malwarebytes are claiming that version 3.0 "makes antivirus obsolete."  Given their reputation and what I would presume is their desire to keep it I'd have to believe their marketing claims stand up in practice.

Re: What is a good, hopefully free, anti-virus that works with JAWS 17 and Windows 10?

Tim,

I am not the best person to ask about the accessibility of newer UIA-style programs, but in playing with Malwarebytes 3.0 just now with NVDA it appears that all of the controls are accessible on the main page.  It's been ages since Malwarebytes even found a PUP on my machine, so I can't say whether the scan results page is accessible, but I'd suspect that if the main page is that it will be as well.

BTW, I'm sighted, so when I do testing of programs using a screen reader it will never be to the same degree that someone who actually uses a screen reader will have encountered in actual practice.  But I am capable of determining whether or not something has what appears to be basic accessibility.  Often it's easier to make a definitive statement that something is not accessible than to say that it is, as I have seen things that are partially accessible but unless I've been working with a client when that occurs it's unlikely that I'll come across that sort of issue on my own.

What is a good, hopefully free, anti-virus that works with JAWS 17 and Windows 10?

Hi All,

I am finally forced to give up my old Windows 7 32 bit computer, and tomorrow will be receiving the new machine running Windows 10 Home edition and 64 bit.  What anti-virus programs work reasonably well with JAWS 17?  I am looking for something free.  I have a paid Malware Bytes license that I believe deals with just the malware, so I assume I also need an anti-virus program?  Please advise, and much thanks.

OpenBook 8 works perfectly fine on windows 8.1. Don't see why it would not work on windows 10.
