The price for an SMA last time was $60. So less expensive to maintain
that than go to the $90 subscription unless you are several versions out
of date.
Too bad the subscription model is just for those of us in the US.

If you are on Jaws 2019 and just didn’t have an SMA to upgrade to Jaws
2020 you should be able to buy a new SMA at whatever the price is and
it will give you Jaws 2020 and Jaws 2021 this fall.

If you are still on Jaws 2018 you should be able to buy a new SMA and
this would entitle you to upgrade to Jaws 2019 and Jaws 2020, of
course there is no need to actually install Jaws 2019, you would go
straight to Jaws 2020, but at that point your SMA is once again used
up and if you want Jaws 2021 this fall you would need to buy another
SMA either right away or at the latest by October.

If you are on anything prior to Jaws 2018 like Jaws 18 or even 17, you
would have to immediately buy 2 SMA’s to even get Jaws 2020.

Alternatively, if you live in the US you can switch to the Jaws
subscription model which is I believe $90 a year, this would entitle
you to upgrade right away to Jaws 2020 no matter what version you are
on, then you continue to pay $90 each year and this will always
entitle you to install and use the latest update.

Having said all this I would highly recommend you speak to Vispero
directly at 1-727-803-8600, let them look up your account via the Jaws
serial number you have and ask what your options are.

They do also have a toll free number, but I don’t currently have it handy.

Hi folks,

I’ve looked under settings while in google chrome, let me see which version of chrome I’m using.

Ok, it says 80.o.9.3 or something like that.

When I launch chrome it says new tab, and I cannot seem to locate to have it go straight to my home page. Once more I went under settings, went all the way and checked the box where it states open a specific page or set of pages.

I’m still presented with the new tab thing when launching chrome and need to do alt home to get to the home page.

There is no one who's an IT professional who recommends that any browser's "remember passwords" feature be used.  They do encrypt, but they are nowhere near as secure as a true password manager.  Browsers have constant contact with and exposure to cyberspace, and password managers (or many of them, anyway) do not.  Virtually all modern password managers also include the ability to go straight to the website and auto-type the password you've stored (though this is getting less robust, which to me is a good thing, actually).

That actually works.

I just did the following:

1. I renamed the  OutlookAutocompleteEnterSound and OutlookAutocompleteExitSound by adding (Backup) to the end

2. I picked two of the piano sounds and copied and pasted them, first Control + C and then Control + V, this creates copy with a “- copy” at the end of the file name.

3. I then renamed one of them OutlookAutocompleteEnterSound and the other OutlookAutocompleteExitSound

4. I went into the CC field of this message and typed the first few letters of my name and the new piano sound played, after pressing tab the other one played. I didn’t even restart Jaws for this to take effect.

Hi. The autocomplete sounds that you hear when entering an address in Outlook are generated from JAWS and not from Outlook. I don't believe there is a way to disable them from Quick Settings but they can be disabled or changed by opening the folder which contains the sound files. On my computer containing JAWS 2020 this folder is C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\2020\Settings\enu\SOUNDS Look for files beginning with the word Outlook and you will see two .wav files, one for the autocomplete enter sound and another for the exit sound. It is likely that deleting these files would prevent these sounds from playing without any consequences but I haven't tried this to determine whether that is the case. Alternatively, you could substitute your own .wav files for these sounds as long as you are careful to rename the files with the exact names of the original .wav files. Personally, I find these two sounds particularly jarring, especially when I'm wearing headphones and I wish that the default sounds were a bit gentler on the ears.

Hi, ok, I did the following and found the 2 files.

1, insert+j=jaws interface,

2, u=utilities,

3, x=Explore utilities folder,

4, e=explore shared settings,

5, s=sounds,

here, I do see the 2 files,

OutlookAutocompleteEnterSound.wav

OutlookAutocompleteExitSound.wav

Hi.

The name of the folder which contains the sounds is

C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\2020\Settings\enu\SOUNDS

Assuming that the folder structure is the same with older versions, which may not always be the case, substitute 2020 with the version of JAWS you are running and see if that works.

If that doesn't work, open the search edit field of your start menu and type the word

utilities

and look for a Utilities app listed under JAWS. Open this and you will be in a folder which, on my computer, is

C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\2020\Utilities

This folder contains links to other folders containing various types of data, such as Personal Settings, Shared Settings, etc. Poke around in these folders and look for a Sounds folder. Some folders labeled Sounds may be empty but at least one Sounds folder will contain a huge assortment of sounds which is used by JAWS.

Aside from the Sounds folder do be cautious if you start modifying these folders, particularly the folders containing scripts. This is equivalent to the system folders used by Windows. However, modifying sounds should be safe. As Sieghard has done it is wise to make backup copies of any default sounds you wish to modify in the event that you want or need to go back to them.

Hi.

When I’m typing an e-mail, in the to field, jaws will play a sound that indicates recent people you’ve contacted. Is there a way to turn this off, and where do I find it?

Thanks.

Best regards,

Sieghard

HI group,

Robin's question about identifying colored cells in Excel got me thinking about my Google Calendar. With the calendar you have the option to color code your tasks, events and reminders as well as each different calendar you have. Would the same examples given by David Goldfield in regards to sounds being played when a specific color is encountered, or announcing said color be applicable to the calendar?

Thanks,

Sarah

The Google Chrome browser and Chromium-based Edge have precisely the same "On Startup" pane, so if you navigate to same in Chrome settings everything else is the same.

Actually after you check that you want a specific page to open you have to add the URL of that page otherwise how would it know which page you want.

You need to  find the place where it lets you open with the new tab being your home page.  I cannot remember where to find it since I use edge now.

Hay I got an idea google it…

Thank you,
