It is probably time for those of you experiencing this bluetooth audio issue to call Microsoft Accessibility to find out why the bluetooth channel in Windows cannot seem to handle this.

I am using ordinary headphones with my pc when taking part in Zoom meetings, in fact they are the ones which came with my Iphone. My problem is that I don't seem to be able to adjust the volume - Jaws booms out and turning down the volume on my speaker makes no difference. Any suggestions?

Hi Tom/all,

A quick way of doing that, courtesy of one of our members, is: Within outlook and ribbons unchecked: alt-v, a, b, w. I wanted the reverse, i.e. abolish the grouping announcement, however the command is a toggle I think. So Tom, just give it a chance and I believe this is what you need.

Hello, everyone.

I just installed the latest Jaws 2020 update on this Windows 10 computer.

I’m using Outlook e-mail in Microsoft 365.

In the list of improvements with this update, I know Jaws will now group messages according to date, which could be quite convenient when sorting through a large folder list view.

Here’s what the update notes say:

“JAWS can now indicate group changes, such as dates or conversations, as you navigate through message lists. For example, if your Outlook view settings
are set to show messages by date and you are navigating a folder containing messages covering multiple days, when you move to the first message in the
new date group, you will hear announcements such as "today," "yesterday," "last week," or "two weeks ago." To turn on this feature, open Quick Settings
(INSERT+V) while in Outlook and select the Announce Group Change in Lists check box.”

I checked the “announce group change” option, but my messages still do not appear to be grouped by date.

Am I missing a step here?

Thanks!

Ok, I did it again.

I hit alt plus a plus b plus d.

Now, at the top of my in-box list view, I have groups by expanded, but then it says date “none” expanded.

If I arrow down through my list view, the messages still are not grouped by date.

I’m obviously still missing something.

Will work on this again tomorrow.

Another option is if folks have a program like winimage, with which you can make an ISO of the files on your HD.
A great open source tool that I use to write ISO images of Linux and WinPE to USB drives is
Universal USB Installer
The last option on the list of over 200 operating systems you can choose from is called DD.
This is normally just a Linux tool, but on this Windows utility you can select the ISO to write to a disk.
In this case, you would select the ISO you made of your HD and it would write it back.

Hi Steve,

I respect that old saying, “to each his/her own.”

But,  I can’t imagine  going through all of the work and the down time to reinstall all of my complicated software and their individual settings.

An image backup, at least for me, is the only way.  So far, I haven’t ever had a problem with Image for Windows or even the very old Ghost backup software way back in the Windows 98 days failing to restore a perfect image of my drive.

Hi Brian,

Personally, I wouldn’t restore or backup an image, too much to go wrong, even on the same hardware.

I usually reset my PC and reinstall apps.  I can back up my personal data just using Windows, but since resetting a Windows 10 PC is now accessible completely, that’s what I do.

I would suggest those really interested in what's being discussed also look at the following two recent topics on other groups:

Windows PE ISO file with NVDA installed

For myself, I would not rely on any ZIP utility as my primary system image backup.  There is a reason that system image backup and recovery utilities, and many of them, exist to make the process easier and far more foolproof.

Which is really, as they say in these parts, "going around Jake's barn," to get something that is far easier to get via taking either full system image backups at regular intervals or taking a baseline full system image backup and incremental backups to same at regular intervals afterward.  I prefer the former simply because my concern is how long it takes to restore in the event that becomes necessary rather than speed of taking the backup, which I generally kick off before retiring for the night, so I don't care if it takes a couple of hours to take the full system image backup where the source drive is a conventional HDD.  SSDs as the source make the whole process much faster.

Mr. Spratt's idea will work like a charm.

Another option is using plain old paste, but then choosing "Merge Formatting" from the options that come up in a context menu immediately after the paste.

See this page, https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-paste-special-in-microsoft-word, for a description of merge formatting with regular paste.  It's behavior, and the behavior of Paste Special with unformatted, are generally identical, so whichever you find easiest is the way to go.

In both cases, though, you are creating a brand new document using the text from the original.  I've actually never used Paste Special when I've selected an entire document with things like bulleted or numbered lists or outlines in them.  Does it retain that aspect of the formatting from the original?  If not, I can definitely say that regular paste with merge formatting option does.  That generally gives you the font face and size specified in the blank document created from the Normal document template, while applying all other formatting like bold, italic, underline, etc., based on how the original text from the source was formatted.
