Re: A Question About JAWS Accessibility
Abraham Sweiss
Hello Lynn,
I use jaws with Citrix Virtual Desktop (VDI ) and Microsoft Remote Desktop (RDP) on a regular basis.
First thing that needs to be done is to contact VFO sales and purchase the remote desktop license. What I am not sure of is if this license is available on the home edition or if the pro version of jaws is required. VFO sales will need to confirm.
Once the license is installed on your version of jaws (client) then jaws will need to be installed on the remote desktops. The jaws version on the remote desktop does not need a license and is a free install. Once the client connects to the server, the clients license will be used. I mention this so that when this topic is brought up to potential employers they will understand that this will not be an added cost on the server side.
jaws help has a list of the commands that are used for both VDI and RDP setups.
However what I do for VDI is after I connect, I use the key combination of control plus shift plus F1. This makes the VDI screen take over your desktop and now you can use the jaws commands you would normally use on your own desktop and not have to learn the new key combinations for VDI. For RDP the key combination is control plus alt plus either insert or page up. And use the same key combinations to get back to your own desktop.
One got-cha is sometimes the caps lock gets stuck and it can take several attempts or a reboot to get it to turn off. VFO support has not been of any help to address this issue.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, Abraham

I have successfully used JAWS with a virtual desktop. JAWS needs to be installed on the virtual desktop as well as your "personal" desktop. I cannot recall the keyboard commands to switch between desktops but it does work. If you want to email me off list you can do that.

OEClassic problem reading folder and message lists
Phil Cox
Hello Fellow Listers
I have installed the OEClassic free version and
everything seems to work fine except that my Jaws2020 will not focus on or
read/speak the folderlist or message list. Also, I have not determined what key
command such as TAB or Enter is used to open or close a folder.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong,
please?

You may not be able to upgrade it since it is a very old model. You should contact VFO to see if the firmware can be updated.

Re: A Question About JAWS Accessibility
Amanda Crocker
You can get a JAWS dongle for this. Basically it’s a USB that holds the license. JAWS needs to be installed on both machines but you don’t need to purchase a license for both machines. You buy a JAWS dongle from freedom scientific. It holds the license.
So I have the dongle on my laptop at home. I also have JAWS installed on my laptop at home. I turn JAWS on on my home laptop. I then remote into my machine in the office and turn JAWS on on my work machine. There is only 1 license for both JAWS.

It is pretty standard that you pay for shipping to a company, but they will cover the shipping back since it is under warranty.

I recommend sending things via Priority Mail through the US post office. HBO Max is at long last joining the ranks of streaming services which will include audio description, thanks to a settlement announced today. Per the agreement, the service will include at least 1,500 hours of described content by next March, and at least four times that amount by March 2023. Improvements to their website and mobile apps are also promised by September of next year. If you export your settings beforehand you can
import them back after you do the repair. Steps below.
You export all your settings by going into the
Jaws context menu with, Jaws key + J, if you run Jaws from the system
tray. Then go to, Utilities / Import
/ Export settings submenu and press enter. Now arrow down to, Export settings..., press enter, now make sure that the, Export all settings radio button is selected. Tab to, next, press spacebar. You're now in a dialog to select a name & save location, but the file will already be named and the default location is the desktop, so tab to finish , press enter and all your settings for that Jaws version will be saved to the desktop. After you install Jaws just import this settings file. How to Import Your Exported settings
1. Launch your JAWS context menu by pressing,
Insert + J.
2. Use the arrow keys and find utilities.
3. Find and click on the Import/Export settings
menu
4. Click on the Import Settings…
5. A dialogue will appear which says “a backup
file”, so choose the browse option and find the backup file.
6. Press next

I don’t know how to turn on notifications in Google Chrome. From what I have read, it sounds to me like when you turn on notifications in Google chrome you get notifications from other web sites, which I don’t want to do. Am I right or am I wrong? If you can tell me how to turn on notifications in Google Chrome I would appreciate it.

It is not necessary to uninstall JAWS. Instead, run the installer
for your version of JAWS and choose "repair" from the list of
options. If you don't have the installer for your version you can
obtain it by going to the Freedom Scientific Web site and selecting
the Downloads link. Doing a repair will likely bring JAWS back to a
default state, meaning that voice settings and hotkeys will go back
to their original settings.

1. In Excel, go to advanced options: alt-f, then t, then a. 2. Tab to "allow editing directly in cells" and be sure it is not checked. Good luck!
