Re: Lynda.com accessibility

This is free access. Not a free trial. With a library card (in my case
Los Angeles public library) one can create an account with Lynda
through the library and not have to pay. Similar to the New York Times
and WSJ. Other libraries offer different resources, but the LA public
library among other services, offers these.

No unsubstantial as it’s a paid service.
Anyway, Just thought I’d ask if anyone’s used Lynda.com and can comment on
the service or site’s accessibility with screen readers (in my case JFW
18)? I know that most likely, a lot of courses will be visual in nature,
but that aside, is it usable?

windows creator

marvin hunkin <startrekcafe@...>

Hi, was able to install the windows creators update and use the jaws touch cursur in the windows update, and was able to use narrator, took a few hours, and able to read the prompts for when it was updating, just a bit slow, took two or more hours to update, and then rebooted, then was able to get to the login screen. So, jaws seems more snappy, and just had a look at the new redesigned start menu, and the new settings app, and using the touch cursur for the windows update, have to go and explore the new windows defender app or settings. Doing a disk clean up now. So, looks like it is working and then had add a new settings to my Microsoft account. And so everything’s up and running, like the new creators update.

Marvin.

Good evening list; using jaws 18 and creators update; first, I hope audio ducking gets repaired; but at any rate, does anyone know how to use the notification center when a notification comes up?

I am having similar problems following the update to the latest build of v18. I also lost my desktop shortcut.

I also lost my desktop shortcut.

My machine seems to be going through an update binge, so I hope that when that process has completed,
JFW will interact with greater stability.

Hi,

If you're using the same hot key combo in another program, it won't work. When I load a new version of JAWS, for example, I need to go to the earlier version of JAWS and remove the hot key from that version, then go to the new version and define the hot key there.

Of course, you can also use a different hot key. I think someone on this list once mentioned they use the last number of the version for that versions hot key, such as Control Alt 7 for JAWS 17 and Control Alt 8 for JAWS 18.
Hope this helps, Keith

Hey guys,

OK, this makes no sense at all. Trying to get a hotkey to work with jaws 18. I go to the shortcut, and go to properties, and get to the hot key where i want to define it, hit j, so it says control alt j, then i tab to apply. Windows 10 dings at me and says i need administrative functions to make this change click continue. so i do that, go to ok button, and it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Press alt t for the tools menu, up arrow to options and enter. Then down arrow to advance, and the update tab is the next to last tab there.

 Mario,

I believe, though I cannot confirm since I don't use them, that local is the key word.  I have scads of IMAP folders into which messages are filtered on my mail server and which propagate out to every e-mail client that I use to access those accounts.  I use a number of different clients just so I can test things such as those we're talking about right now.  All of my IMAP folders read exactly like the inbox and other folders you mentioned (which are IMAP folders, too, if that's the access method you're using).

However, I've just shot down that theory, at least on my own machine.  I created a local folder and moved two of my existing messages to it.  When I went to that folder with NVDA it is reading the messages listed in that folder when I land in the message list.

I wish I knew why this is working for me, but I don't.  It's impossible to try to fix something or try to find a workaround if you can't replicate the issue to begin with!

Re: Do I need Windows Creator?

Ted,

I honestly have no idea whether Windows 10 is available on optical media or USB commercially because I have not attempted to find same in ages.  I am now so used to downloading virtually anything, and using a license key purchased to activate same if one is needed, that I don't look for actual installation media.

The Windows 10 Media Creation Tool will create a bootable USB, if you so choose, as part of downloading the ISO so you don't have any work to do other than plugging in the USB drive (4GB minimum size and empty, or if it's not empty everything on it will be wiped, but I always empty the drive first), telling the Media Creation Tool to make the bootable USB, and walk away until the download completes (or keep working on the computer).
