Hi List,
I'm using Windows 7 and have two open PDF files in Acrobat Reader DC. In the past, I've always been able to cycle between open files using the alt + tab keystroke but I'm only getting one occurrence of Acrobat Reader and have to access its open files using the Windows menu and arrowing through it. Does anyone know of a keystroke that will let me move between the open Acrobat Reader files? Barring that, is there a Windows 7 setting that will present open files individually so that alt + tab will allow me to cycle between them? I think this must be an Acrobat Reader setting because if I open more than one Microsoft Excel file, I'm able to currently move between them using alt + tab.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Cohn, Jonathan
That is truely horrible. Can I share with the accessibility community? To try and resolve, try changing the click behaviour for that web page. Look for the word simulate in quick settings and find the setting for that site (the results should show up twice, once for general and once for specific site) and then toggle the setting.

One thing you can do is use either function key 5 or CTRL with G, type in the letter S followed by the section number you want to go to and then press enter key. If you use the letter S followed by a plus or minus sign followed by a number you will move by the number of sections you specified. For example, if you are in section 2 and you press F5 and type in S+3, when you press enter key you will be at the beginning of section 5. If you are in section 5 and you type S followed by a minus and the number 2 you will be taken to the beginning of section 3 when you press enter key.
Take care.

Hi again Dani,
I posted your question to another list and here's
a reply:

Snyder
You can do this by using the “Go To” utility in MS Word.
Open the Go To dialog using CTRL + G..
Beware that the Go To utility is a floating dialog, that remains open while
in use. You will need to use CTRL + Tab, to move between the dialog and
the document. When finished using the Go To utility, return focus to the
Go To utility, and close it using CTRL + F4. HTH.

I just went through the entire process, which is slightly different from the instructions I copied. I unchecked the “list” checkbox. Did you find the apply button? Then there’s a second OK button. I closed settings, closed Chrome, reopened Chrome, reopened settings, and the “list” checkbox remained unchecked.
I’m using the latest release of JAWS 2020, Windows 10-1909 and the latest version of Chrome.

Hi Adrian, this is new and not in the settings, I have gone through every setting in JAWS, including the ones you mentioned. Everything in the list is turned off, and all verbosity levels are set to the lowest. If I install a version prior to June it goes away, and as soon as I update it comes back. This is to do with the aria group names change that was made. I assume if the webpage developer created a group of elements on the page but then didn’t give it a unique name, the name defaults to “list with 1 items”, etc. I use a CRM for work and the groups are named correctly, and it has caused these to be read out, when they weren’t before. I can do without them though and still work effectively, which is why I want FS to give us the option to turn it off.

Andrew, This is not a new feature. It sounds as though the latest update change your existing settings. So: I haven’t gone through the following process just now except for the first few steps, but here are instructions that should still work: Open JAWS settings with JAWS key+6 on the number row above the letters. If you want the change to affect only one application, be sure focus is in that application. Otherwise, press shift-control-d for it to affect all programs. Type v e r in the search box and verbosity will appear. One of the results that comes up is configure web verbosity. On my system, it’s the first of eight. Note: this is different from JAWS’ speech verbosity. Cycle through the options with the spacebar. Press f6. The current level is verbalized right away. Tabbing once initiates “Set Web verbosity levels.” The first button is labeled “High.” Tab again to medium and then again to low. Press spacebar on the button of your choice. After pressing the button you select, a tree view of checkboxes appears. Arrow down to “List” and pressed spacebar to uncheck it. Note: You may wish to look at the other items in this tree view in case you want to disable, or in some cases enable, more options. Tab twice to Okay and press spacebar. Be sure to save before closing the dialog. Control-s should do it.

Hi everyone, since the June update, which introduced an update to JAWS reading Aria group names, JAWS now keeps reading “list containing 1 items” or “list containing 3 items”. It is announcing this before many elements on a webpage when tabbing through. I have contacted FS to request they fix this, I cant believe they introduced a feature that added speech without also adding a setting in the settings center to turn it off. If this is annoying anyone else can they please also email Freedom Scientific, the more people that complain the higher on the list it will go. I have installed a version I had downloaded from November last year, just so I don’t have to hear it all the time.

Re: Moving Between Sections in a Word Document

Two thoughts.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
First, the symbol marking a new section is ^k. Type these two characters into an MS Word search ()control-f), not a JAWS search (JAWS key-control-f) and press enter. You should be taken to the beginning of a new section. For the record, I haven't tried it because I don't divide documents this way. Second, there may be another symbol to use when you go into quick navigation mode with JAWS key-z. In this mode, pressing h will take you to the next heading, etc. I haven't looked into whether there's such a symbol for sections.

Question About accessible web pages
clarence carter
I have run into a problem with a web page. It is set up to change the page formatting when it detects a screen reader.
What happens is that the screen reader will read the page as normal until you try to move to another spot on the page. Then, the page says page downloading. I have added the web page below. If anybody has a way around this I would appreciate your help.
