I think my Adobe is version 9, but I only keep it on the pc because I
use Kurzweil to convert my pdf files normally. The Convenient OCr just
sounded that, convenient. I don't know how my original file opened. So,
for now, I think I will just go back to Kurzweil.

Thank you to all that have tried to help me.

Hi,

I would like to read a pdf file with the Convenient OCR
program. It is
not working. I did it once on the first day I received my
copy of Jaws.

Steps taken:
located the file in my user folder
pressed jaws key plus spacebar
pressed O and then D

I did the same thing again today. When I get to the press of
the d, I
get a sound and nothing happens. Is it possible I a) either
made a
mistake in what I did, or b) changed something in Jaws that
won't allow
me to do this now?

Thanks for the help.

Amen!

If you use someone else’s computer, which I do all of the time, you have to be able to use the Windows 10 interface just the way it is. I am with sighted friends all of the time playing with them on their computer. I can use their computer just the way it is with Narrator, and a portable version of NVDA. The Blind need to quit making everything comfortable just for them, because how can you do stuff on sighted people’s computers?

The principle of learning to use the native interface that you're presented with rather than adding layers on top of it to emulate an old one is an important one in my experience.

If you're like most individuals I've known, you will find yourself on another computer (or other computers) away from home that may even have the software you're used to (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, etc.) but where you are not able to make changes to settings or the like.

If you have become dependent on something like the virtual ribbon, Classic Shell, etc., you are up the proverbial creek without a paddle.  In addition, if you have a very good memory about where you are in a given program and what you need to do to get out gracefully, you can do so if your screen reader suddenly refuses to speak for some reason.

VFO: Vision Freedom Optelec. AI Squared acquired GW Micro, which in turn was
acquired by VFO last year.

Yes, The V in VFO is for V Squared, which first bought Window-Eyes from GW
Micro. Then Freedom Scientific merged with Optelec and VSquared. So Freedom
Scientific now has the ownership of Window-Eyes which is going to be fazed
out.

From my understanding, window eyes will work in safe mode? This would be a great feature as jaws does not and to my knowledge narrator does not either

Because the machine I have is no longer supported by Dell, as it was originally purchased in 2007. So that means I would have to get an entirely new machine.

Just out of curiosity why do you think it would cost over $700 to upgrade to Windows 7?

The machine I have AVG on has Windows XP, and right this moment, I don't have $787 to upgrade it to Windows 7. For some reason, I've tried uninstalling AVG, but the installer stops after a few minutes and Microsoft creates an "Error Report". I tried "Debug", then restart the computer, then restart the uninstall process, but nothing changes. It's still stuck on the same error.

Not sure if that is what you want to do, but I would simply uninstall it and use the free anti-virus solution Microsoft provides. For Windows 7 it is called Security Essentials and you have to download it, if you have Windows 10 you have Windows Defender already built in to the OS.

Hi, it's Annabelle.

I have AVG Antivirus Free Edition, and a recent update has rendered it inaccessible to JAWS. Specifically it did something where it won't let me access the menu from the System Tray like it used to. Also, I used to be able to fully access the main interface, but I think they messed with something where it's now made with Google Chrome. How do I get rid of AVG Zen? I have Antivirus Free, and it keeps telling me to renew my subscription. What's up with that? I don't have a paid subscription, and I don't think you would need one with AVG Antivirus Free.

David, it sounds to me that the best thing to do is scan
them onto a computer. I'm thinking you'd need someone's help
- sorry my husband lives thousands of miles away. Or maybe
you don't live in Oregon, that's another Dave. Anyway, I'm
thinking that could work, if you could scan them onto a
computer - even at Walgreens. Actually, I believe they have
a service like that at Walgreens where they will do that for
you. Once you get it in your computer, then you have control
of it, wherever you want to send it, put it on a flash drive
or SD card, whatever.

Even on Facebook, like, my sister sent a picture, and JAWS
announced man and woman at table. I am pretty sure it was a
picture of her and her husband, but that does not really
have a lot of meaning for us, especially for people like I
am who have a whole lot to read each day.

Nothing to do with USB. Scanning in a photograph will create
a graphical image with no JAWS interpretation. It's not like
the Facebook ability to recognize images -- now that is
amazing technology that can only be possible with billions
of identified images in the cloud to use as a resource.
Forget using it with JAWS on a computer.
